It has been claimed that we have offered Everton £22 million for Rooney. Don't know how reliable though.

Here are news from "What The Papers Say" section from ManUtd.com,all papers in favour of Rooney joining us.

£22m United bid for Roon
Manchester United are ready to begin the bidding for Wayne Rooney with a £22million offer. And Alex Ferguson is convinced he will get the 18-year-old England sensation, whose Euro 2004 campaign ended in injury heartbreak on Thursday night. High-level talks have taken place at Old Trafford, with the green light given to a move, and United have already made contact with Everton. Rooney will not sign a new contract at Goodison and make the switch. He has only two years left on his current deal and wants to stay in the North West so he will reject any overtures from Chelsea, whatever their offer.

United lead the chase for wounded Wayne
England sensation Wayne Rooney limped home last night - straight into a bidding war for his services. Manchester United, his preferred choice, and Chelsea are favourites to sign the 18-year-old Everton striker. But United, who have prepared a £23m bid, believe they are in pole position. In the meantime, Rooney faces a six-week lay-off with the foot he broke against Portugal.

Rooney may snub Chelsea as Fergie closes in
Wayne Rooney has indicated to friends and family that he would prefer to join Manchester United rather than follow his England minder Steven Gerrard to Chelsea. And Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that the striker's wish to stay in the north-west will persuade Everton to agree a deal worth up to £30million to take the 18-year-old to Old Trafford. United are prepared to pay an initial fee of about £23m, which will be supplemented by incentive payments up to an extra £7m.

Thats great news.
Our team is shaping up to be a real title contender now.
Its also good to see all of Man Utd's players do well in Euro 2004 too. Ronaldo IMO has been Portugal's beswt player, Gary Neville has been a great right back for England and Ruud looks like he's most likely leaving Portugal as the tournament's top scorer.

yeah...Ruud has done really well!!!

hm..Gerrard went to Chelsea?? how come i heard nothing of that?? and Rooney will reject any chelsea offer...Sweet to hear!!!! lolz

Oh, one more thing...if Rooney does come, i can see him competing with Scholes for a spot instead of Saha...with his defense, his speed, his attacking power and will, a OH position for him might not be bad...but, i think Scholes is a way better player in that field.

Ruud and Rooney would be sick (seeing how they are the top players in this EURO tournament...)

One thing I've noticed about Ronaldo is that you can clearly see him get better and better every game. Portugal's only main problem seems to be that they don't have a decent forward or a finisher.

And this has been Ruud's forst ever competative international tournament and he's to world just how great his finishing is. Especially with that goal against Germany. You literally can't hold him down when he's on fire.

If both Ruud and Ronaldo play like that this season, I can't really see them losing the title.

if they play like that...then Arsenal is no match for us for sure....

i am sure Ferguson learned alot this summer watching his men play...he can implement such tactics this year...

Also looks like fergie got it absolutley right when he flogged beckham last summer. He always said his mind was being detraceted from his football and he would suffer as a consequence. It is insight like this that makes him such a superb manager.

Quick joke:

Victoria Beckham broke the world group sex record on thursday. In 120 minutes her shaven tw*t f*cked the whole of England.

All these strong rumours should leads to something I'm sure.

Roo's for Man U
Wayne Rooney has told close friends that he wants to join Manchester United rather than Chelsea. Roman Abramovich's mega-rich Chelsea are hoping Rooney's close friendship with Stamford Bridge-bound Steven Gerrard will give them an extra chance of foiling United. But Rooney has opted to remain in the North West, giving Ferguson and United fresh hope in their quest to land England's newest sensation.

United will break bank for Rooney
Wayne Rooney has made it known that he wants to join Manchester United - and now all Old Trafford manager Sir Alex Ferguson needs to do is persuade his board to come up with the necessary funds. Ferguson is demanding that his boardroom backers make a bid of at least £30million, despite the reluctance of the club's cash-conscious plc to break the bank. In the manager's favour is the fact that Rooney wants to stay close to his family roots. Rooney also remains convinced that his career will be developed more carefully under Ferguson.

Scroo You
Wayne Rooney will this week break Everton hearts by rejecting their last-ditch bid to stop him joining Manchester United. The hottest property in English football will be hauled into showdown talks at Goodison Park and offered a club-record five-year deal to stay with the Merseysiders. But throughout Euro 2004 Rooney told his England team-mates he dreams of playing for United - and he would even be willing to wait another 12 months if Everton refuse to accept an offer now.

Everton will let Wayne go
Everton have conceded defeat in their attempts to hold on to Wayne Rooney. An imminent bid from Manchester United is set to spark his departure. Rooney, 18, will NOT submit a written transfer request. He met his agent Paul Stretford yesterday. But a fee between £25m and £30m should secure his services. United want him to move this summer but Everton hope to keep him until the January transfer window.

I heard that we're gonna play him behind 2 strikers in a Scholes-type role.
With guys like Rooney and Ronaldo, we'll be able to break any defence apart.
I'm getting so hyped up for next season.

And I wonder who we'll scout on our USA Tour this year. ManUtd.com says that we'll be playing Celtic, Bayern Munich and AC Milan on that tour. Can friendlies get any tougher?

i told u that he would do quite nicely if u put him in a Scholes position...that's what i see and i agree with u...

wow...well, Celtic ain't that hard...Bayern...this should be interesting...and AC MILAN...CAN'T WAIT!!!

FFS, slow down. You are being linked with Rooney and thats about it at the minute. As for Ronaldo, Ash seemed to have him pretty much in his pocket..

OK fair enough. But Ronaldo can beat many other defenders with ease.
And the Rooney deal is bound to happen. We want him, he wants to join us, we're offering nearly £30mil and Rooney is gonna get paid over 5 times his current wage. What could go wrong with the deal?

I dont think we'll get Rooney and even if we do we're gona have some unhappy strikers. Ruud will defo play but what about Saha, Smith, Forlan, Solskjaer.
If your talking about playing in Scholes position then id much rather stick with Scholes.

Scholes isn't getting any younger so we'll need a replacement. Forlan is rumoured to go and I think Solskjaer will too.
And I think we'll be playing Ruud and Saha up front with Rooney just behind them so we'll only have Smith and Solskjaer on the bench.
Solskjaer will occasionally play on the right wing so he'll won't be upset.

I'd say the Rooney deal is as close as the Ronaldinho deal was last year. We just need to make sure we don't mess this one up.

Scholes still has another good 4 or maybe 5 years left in him. You cant just replace a player of that calibre and value to us just so we can fit Rooney in.( if we get him, doubt we will )

Well we're gonna make a bid for him probably any time this week so we'll just have to see what we do with him.

dont get too carried away mate, we all know wot happened with the Ronaldinho transfer.

I will only be happy when this deal is official, if it happens great but untill then i am trying not too excited by it, yet... (here's hoping)

Anymore than £25 million for Rooney would be a waste of money. He's worth at most £20 million.

all this talk of Ashley Cole having Ronaldo in his pocket is a bit much!! Cole's games built around breaking forward supporting the man in front of him, how many times did we see Cole in the Portuugese half??? Cole had a good game, but then again so did Ronaldo, i've seen Roberto Carlos keep Beckham in Utd's half, cole didnt do that.

I already said that if we don't mess this deal up, its ours. I'm sure we've learnt our lesson from last time.

I hope Heinze turns out to be good. I just get a feeling that he'll mess up somewhere important like in a CL quarter final or something. Don't ask me why, its probably cuz he's from argentina.

lol. Just because Ronaldo passed the half-way line doesnt mean he got a kick, i cant remember one cross that Ronny had, and i think there was a half-chance, when Cole and Campbell blocked him. . . . As for Cole's game being built around going forward, he gave us a lot WHEN we were able to get forward, which isnt as much as Arsenal do in the prem, so thats probably why you think he didnt get forward very much.

Ive said it before, but i'll do it again. Euro 2004 was the best ive EVER seen Cole play for England. He just seemed to get better and better (and all this coming from a Spurs fan!).

I think its time some supporters took their blinkers off and TRIED to give an unbiased opinion for once

WHile Cole did not break out offensively too much in that game, neither did the midfield or the attackers who are ahead of him. But throughout the tourney he showed himself as a slick LB who can come from the back and slice thru defenses in support or even creative capacities.

as far as Ronaldo goes, I think that Cole bitchslapped him, pimped him, robbed him, and then turned him out. LOL. I am not a huge ManU fan, but it was clear that Cole stifled Ronaldo, and even the Portugese press acknowledged it and praised him for it.

Ghazi you're sick man! I don't think that anyone has summarized the Cole vs. Ronaldo confrontation any better. Seriously though I think that some of you do have biased blinders on though. Ronaldo's good but Cole played him really well.

hahaha...well, there was pretty much no where for Ronaldo to go...he's in Man U and grew up (last season) in Man U, so Gary Neville knew him pretty well, so he can't play in the left area...and his only chance was the right...Cole saw what he wanted to do (wonder if the Man U players helped him on that) and stopped him a few times, then Ronaldo (still young) lost confidence and started to step back...After the goal in the 83rd minute, he grew confidence and had a few nice turns PAST Cole...so, i can end up saying that Cole was experienced and played well against Ronaldo who's still young

I remember Ronaldo giving Cole a lot of problems defensively this season but have to say Cole dealt witht the threat of Ronaldo very well in the ENG-POR match.

I think its a good duel myself
