Re: Liverpool Thread(I Just Can't Get Enough!!)
Gerd, I see you constantly under-rating Andy Carroll and this is a man, you yourself have admitted many times you've barely watched. You've seen him in a total of 2-3 games it seems and they just happened to be the ones that he wasn't all that good in. You're jumping into conclusions about his ability and potential, way too early my friend. Let me tell you that.
I, too, don't think Carroll is worth as much as they paid but everybody including Liverpool and their fans and owners know that anyway. They're not disputing that.
As far as ability goes though, this guy is impressive! Seems to be that the people badmouthing him are just guys who see his inflated price tag (and yes it is inflated and had to be given the circumstances and Newcastle not wanting to part with him, so they massively overpaid for a still fairly unproven player) and those who've barely seen him play anyway.... just a few games here.. some of which were after a bad injury where player is still rusty...
Andy Carroll was truly impressive in the first half of the season. Makes me wonder how many Newcastle games some of you guys watched. He's not just a big target man like some like to say either, he's good with ball at his feet as he's fairly skillful for a big man and has got a lethal shot in that left-foot! Holds up the ball well... has his head up and so looks for team-mates/good passes... and of course he IS a a great target man! How many effective target men are out there these days anyway? Not that many... Andy Carroll does what Kevin Davies does but he's much faster, younger and more skillful.
For me, he still has a LOT to prove and of course Liverpool overpaid for him. But that's a separate topic and doesn't mean he's not a very good player and the fact that Belgium has even 3 forwards better than him is BS let alone 10! He's gonna be England's striker and for good reason.
He's already very good as he showed earlier this season and he's still very young!
And I'm all for having him and Luis Suarez who can each bring very different things to the table and during different tactical setups which will inevitably be needed during a long hard season against different oppositions.
I can't believe the guy's taking so much unfair criticism by 1) people who've barely seen enough of him... and 2) because of something that was out of his control! It's not
his fault, Liverpool made him highest English transfer ever! People seem to forget that.
The thing is the constant use of "we HAD to replace Torres instantly"
Why? He's a great player but at the time and just like now, he wasn't really firing on all cylinders or anything and Suarez was coming in so 1 in and 1 out. what was the rush of WE NEED SOMEONE NOW?! couldn't you have waited till the Summer, realistically you weren't going down and you weren't getting into the top 4 so why not see how Suarez and the team performs for the rest of the season (pretty good it turns out) and then spend that 35M in the Summer.
Don't agree for some of the reasons mentioned above and the thing you miss out and it looks like everyone else here has too unless I missed it in posts above is RYAN BABEL left too. Okay so yeah it's not like he was playing that much or having big impact but people forget, it's not just one forward that left in Torres but two even if Babel's more like a WF. So you can't just sell two and bring one guy who may adapt immediately as luckily Luis did or not...
