I do too. It's a formation I've liked for ages (I remember Liverpool using it in the mid-90s with Rob Jones and Jason McAteer(!) as wing backs).

I did actually suggest that formation on a couple of Liverpool forums a few months ago but I was shot down like I was some kind of lunatic.

Real shame, don't think he will be hugely missed but love seeing him coming on at the end of matches and showing what he can do.

Gutted for him as Kenny clearly sees the potential in him, hasn't he been brought on in all of Kenny's games?

exactly!!that is where he belongs the auld fart!makes my skin crawl the bastard.whats hilarious are the baggies forums are over the moon on hearing the appointment.they were playing some lovely football and are gonna be in for a shock when the ball gets hoofed every min.poor baggies.boing boing down then.

Tbh he'll probably sort them out and keep them save. Look at the teams that play football and the ones that don't in the bottom half. It's the ones that don't who look saver then the ones that do. Hopefully we can sell Poulsen and Konchesky to WBA this summer. 10mil please! :D

He seems the right man to appoint, given their defensive problems. Both Di Matteo and Mowbray before him, have tried to play nice football with a poorly equipped backline and haven't had much success in the Premiership.

Interesting article. Something was very strange about our sale. In 15 September 2010 Purlsow said that the only positive thing of NESV was that they exist and a month later he was praising them and saying how they were the perfect owners.
Anyway, I couldnt care less about what happen to that Purlsow rat and I trust 100 % in FSG.

Tbh, I would agree that from Purslow's and H+G's perspective the NESV deal is a bottom-of-the-barrel one. It offered no value to them, the 130mil loss highlighting that. Also NESV have stated that they wouldn't invest huge amounts of money in the club from their own pockets but would remove the debt and rent payments and use the income to build. Also increase income with more commercial activities and increase stadium capacity (whether new or re-development). Business-wise they have always sounded grounded and intelligent and have stated a wish to build the club longterm on sound business.

The article leads me to believe they were looking for a buyer that would give atleast some profit for the owners and also invest heavily in the squad right away to equalise the clubs for next season. The half the debt part is worrying, however it seems they improved their offer and completely removed it to seal the deal.

Time will tell what happens, but so far they have done all the right things imo.

Nice to see him being linked with us, but with Suarez, Carroll, Ngog, Jovanovic, Kuyt all possible CF or forwards..i´m not sure if he could play more here than in Barca..

Hope Barca loan him out to a team he could start more matches..

But if we sell some of the players like Jovanovic, i see Krkic as great replacement and one for future as well.

Disappointing game......we did not look good enough at times..
too many loose touches...

Should have gone on to win the game at 1:0....
and once they scored we were asleep till the last 15 minutes

Suarez looks a good player...he has a lot of passion...
and will try tricks ....but seems a bit rusty...

Kuyt had one of his lousier days....not many players did very well
..Kelly had some good tackles....but overall the team just did
not have that buzz ...

Hopefully next game we will be better

Yeah fair result overal based on play, although Liverpool could easily have one if Suarez had a bit more luck he would have scored two instead of hitting the woodwork twice. And had the ref had some bottle he would have sent the Wigan defender off for the last 10 minutes, and had he had any insight he would have played advantage for Maxi. Dickhead!

But other then that it was a fair result. Atleast it will be awhile till the next match so hopefully everyone can get fit again.

What was noticable was the total lack of depth the squad has atm, only player to be brought on were Ngog and Bundi. Not realyl a much to try and win a game. Hopefully Carrol can get fit quickly.

we can´t play a game without Gerrard, Agger...

we need overhoul, at least 8 new players imo..we are lacking depth.

we need to GET RID of players like Maxi, Kuyt, Ngog, Jovanovic etc. NOT GOD ENOUGH.

we need to buy WINGERS, quality wingers.

Today i thought it was awfull...we were outplayed by few Wigan players, not pressing enough... We were lucky that Meireles scored..best player on pitch with Reina and Carra.. after he was down, we played nothing.. Ngog was waste of space..Maxi should have be first of the pitch today.. dissapointed, but then again, i can´t wait for miracles from this players we have now...

we need 8 NEW players minimaly - quality - YOUNG - HUNGRY and two of them PROPER WINGERS.

yeah ...Kuyt...the problem is hard-work can only get you so far...
his passing was appalling today....
Agree about the rest too...

A lot of these players are getting old and not very skilful..
and hopefully this summer there will be a major clearout
and we will have young hungry players
- Lavezzi, Benzema , Ashley Young are being linked...

And at least 1 genuine pacy winger....
can't understand why United always end up with great wingers
over the last 20 years...
(Giggs, Sharpe, Kanchelskis, Ronaldo, Nani, Valencia)...

and we have so few who were good (Kewell, Pennant, Diomede, Heskey!!, Kuyt!!)

what wingers are you all on about???who plays with wingers anymore?are they even wingers anymore other than the traditional english ones?bale,a.young,johnson?dont it have to be the pre historic 4-4-2 then?barcelona who arguably play the best football witnessed in years now dont play with wingers.or real.or inter.or chelsea.or arsenal.do we want to be stoke????

I wouldn't call them wingers, but the team needs a couple more players that can beat a man one-on-one. Suarez can and does, Johnson does aswell. Gerrard a little in his own way. But other then that there aren't really any players that can just leave a defender for dead and create their own space to make that telling pass or shot. And those players would play in Kuyt and Maxi's position.

Even Shaun Wright-Phillips is better winger than we have in our team.. if we have a true winger in it anyway..

Surprised nobody mentioned the fact that Wigan's goal was off-side...
I agree about Di Mateo: he seemed a good prospect, too soon to sack him...but that is panic.

Tbh even after the replay's I couldn't tell whether he touched the ball or not. And none of the players called it either so I concluded that it was onside.

i think Wigan goal was not offside becouse the player didn´t touch the ball imo and Gohouri was not offside before that..

are you kidding me?What bout the champions before that?champions of spain?France?Italy?Europe?World cup?European cup?Copa america etc..

Utd have been playing that way for years.Even whiskey nose knows that in europe,he ditches the 442.Or when they play the big teams.

On shaun wright phillips.if you think he's a good winger or even a footballer then bless you.this is one player who was overhyped,no footballing brain hence missed shit loads of football in 5-6 years now cos he is only suited for stoke,fulham etc.hell he actually should be a fulham player if it wasnt for last min hitches on deadline day

I totally agree that Kuyt and Maxi are good players, but not the kind of wide midfielders you would expect. We draw because Kuyt had an awful match, he managed all the counterattacks badly and his crosses were also a shame.
I liked though when Kenny put Ngog for Meireles. I didnt like that the 3 players that we had up fron were Suarez, Ngog and Kuyt, but the same formation with Gerrard-Lucas-Meireles and Suarez-Carroll-Young (maybe) looks encouraging.
On the other hand, I hope this match helped for Kenny realising that Johnson cant play in the left back. His best part is offensively and he cant do that if you play him in the left back.
