Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

are you surprised though?

we've all known all along that he had ridiculous wage demands and would go to the highest bidder.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah but for the sake of £10k a week he's turning down a club where he knows and likes the manager and quite a few of the players, he wouldn't have to uproot or leave his young family and at the moment that club has far better prospects and CL football. Strange decision for me, unless whoever he supported as a lad means he can't bring himself to sign for Spurs.

Either way, great signing for you if he stays fit.

Re: Liverpool Thread

By the looks of it, Liverpool are slowly becoming a mid-table club. I'm a United fan yes, but it's quite sad witnessing what's happening to Liverpool. Actually wouldn't want it happening to any club. Hope it's only a temporary thing until the ship is steady again.

mid table on paper..? maybe yes..

but we are still one of best clubs in world.. just right now deep in shit..

Re: Liverpool Thread

No disrespect but that makes Cole look like a real mercenary.
I don't really think so,I certainly didn't expect him to end up at Hull for some measly 5k a week just to not bother us Chelsea fans?

And his other options weren't really better.Liverpool probably won't be our competitors next year and our rivalry with them isn't as strong as the one with Tottenham or Arsenal.Going to United wasn't an option because that would help them regain the league.Going from the double winners to the relegation fighters at West Ham doesn't look to good either.

Anyway now Broughton won't be the only Chelsea supporter :P

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ah, i've just read it again (it's on wikipedia btw - obviously a trusted source) and it says that by February 2009 he was on 6 assists which was the highest of any fullback, but i think they've included his shot which Kevin Davies scored an own goal from as an assist.

Anyway, take this for what you will because i'm not taking it as fact yet but a mate of mine who works for one of the local papers just phoned to say Joe Cole is flying out to Switzerland tonight to join up with the Liverpool team.
I would love it to be true, but i'm not holding my breath. Although my mate has nothing to gain from it, he's adamant that it's true.
It will make a lot of sense Joe coming. He 's a world class player that, if he signs for us, is going to please Torres and Gerrard , it is going to excite the fans and it is going to bring press to Anfield.
I think it is a great move to go from Benayoun to Joe Cole. He is way better than Benayoun. He has not only got ability, but he can see a pass, is a creative player, can play in a lot of positions and is english.

Here is another reporter saying that he is in Suitzerland: http://twitter.com/rbuxton_LFC/status/18858983760

Re: Liverpool Thread

I rather Joe join Pool then Spurs Europa could be exciting I think. They are making it appealingly for clubs and Hods know europa ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Probably a mercenary, however his chances of playing are higher at Liverpool then at Spurs. So maybe he wants to play as much as possible as well as earning more money.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Meanwhile, Hodgson has again been pressed by journalists on the future of Javier Mascherano after it emerged last week that he had tried - unsuccessfully - to make contact with the midfielder.

Hodgson said: "He doesn't need to make contact with me. I've made contact with him telling him I'm looking forward to seeing him in training when he returns from his holiday but I did make the point in the voicemail that I didn't expect him to contact me.

"I just wanted him to know that I had been in touch and that I was thinking of him. I didn't ask him to call me back. I don't have a lot to say to him, to be honest, other than 'Welcome back'."

Sounds pretty ominous.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think he'd be a welcome addition, can fill right into a Yossi-shaped hole. Don't see why he'd go to Spurs, think he and Modric are too similar (and that Modric is better, but anywho)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Most of you are forgetting that he hasn't been brilliant since 2008.
He's constantly either injured or out of form.

Re: Liverpool Thread

yeh...but he's cheap!

nah everyone knows about that mate, it's just that he's one of those players that can be brilliant if given the opportunity and support.

:D:D:D:D:COOL:

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm guessing he's your new left-back then? Unless Kuyt's going to be moved there.

Kuyt would play anywhere for this club, becouse he loves it..

Offcourse LFC will sign a new left back..the transfer window is open still

but to sign Jovanovic and Cole for free is amazing, considering they are great players..

Re: Liverpool Thread

Delighted, really pleased about Cole. I'm confident that Bruckner will be able to sort out Cole's injuries and we'll get the best out of him :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

A nice early birthday present for me from Roy, thanks old man :)
If you want to thank someone, that guy should be Cecil (as they say in RAWK :D ) Purlsow. Roy, as he said last saturday, had nothing to do with Joe Cole signing.

I guess this signing shows that we are really really confident in Bruckner 's job. We are taking a huge risk here, because if it goes wrong we are not going to be able to sell Joe Cole with the wages he has, but if Bruckner can fix him (as well as Torres and Aquilani) are going to have a world class player with no transfer being paid for him.

Now, if Hodgson likes so much playing with 2 strikers, then Insua, Benayoun and Riera sells and letting go Fabio Aurelio are also to buy a striker (Loic Remy according to the reports. I know Roy doesnt know who he is, but here Eduardo Maciá and Purlsow take all the shots). How are we going to play ?
Reina

Johnson Carragher Agger ?

Mascherano(Lucas ) Aquilani

Gerrard Joe Cole

Torres Remy

I think that Gerrard and Aquilani can't partner in the midfield. They are players too similar, it would be like Lampard-Gerrard. I could be wrong though

Re: Liverpool Thread

Don't forget Jovanovic and Maxi, we seem to have decent wide players all of a sudden!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Guys, Guys....

Hodgson is not a "Yes" man..... the man is not a puppet.
In fact I have more respect for him....he does not meddle in the
financial matters of the club...
As he said earlier...he is a coach...his job is to coach the players.

Did'nt Benitez also say at Inter that it is Branca who will run the
transfers...and he will focus on coaching...
At Inter...it is always Branca and Moratti who talk transfers...
not Rafa...

Purslow is not some on some clandestine mission to ruin the club.
LFC are in debt, they need to be run smartly.....and that means not giving
full control to a Coach who obviously is not a financial expert.
Rafa wanted full control....and look what he did...spending 38mill
on Acquilani and Johnson.......it is no surprise Rafa is not at LFC
any more.

I am sure Hodgson will have inputs on who to sign....but at the end
of the day Purslow is the Chief Executive....a member of the Board
who has more power to do what is right for LFC financially.

I don't think Hodgson does the negotiations of contracts or transfer fees..
rightly so...he leaves all that to Purslow and others.

The future is bright....it is not all gloom and doom as the media
would like you to believe....

Liverpool Football Club is bigger than any single man....
and this club will be back much stronger....
the people who slate Hodgson...those who leave Liverpool prematurely
will regret this....watch out.

I am excited and looking forward to it.
You should probably know that Eduardo Macia was the brain behind Aquilani buy and that he is the guy that is taking all the shots with Purlsow.
