Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm not sure if Maxi has the fitness and legs to be a regular for us on the right, I still think Kuyt will play there more often than not.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Kuyt would be useless upfront, he's been on the right for a while and its best suited to have him their.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I disagree - his goal scoring record is pretty decent from the central position - dont have any stats to hand but he covered for Torres for a period last season and scored in a few games either on the bounce (pun intended) or every other game.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ryan Babel then? No hoper or could he be rejuvenated with a new manager.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Babel has everything except focus and a footballing brain - focus can be coached and you'd hope as he's still young he could be educated on the game but I think this will be his last season to prove he's not another in a list of players with wasted talent who never reached their true potential.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I agree with MJP about Babel. This is a massive chance and I'd hope Roy has the experience of working with many kinds of player to be able to get the best from Babel.

If Babel can't fulfil this season, it's time he moves on.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So Dirk Kuyt, 48 hours ahead of the biggest game of his life - probably never to be surpassed - can come out with such a statement but our captain - before, during and now after his 4 games for England, cannot.
I think is unfair to compare Gerrard with Kuyt. Gerrard has been here all his life, he has given us a lot more than Kuyt, and now at 30, he is wanted by Mourinho, it could be his last chance to win something. I wouldnt be angry with him if he goes, if we make a good deal (Van der Vaart + money).

Gerrard, i dont feel he is our true captain anymore...but he is legend of our club offcourse..he owns us nothing now..

about Kuyt, he is integral part, true professional who loves the club and town, most of all supporters i guess!!!

i wait for Gerrard´s and Nando´s statement soon..

Re: Liverpool Thread

Gerrard's selfish and thinks about himself, Kuyt is a team player and that's a large part to why he's in the World Cup final and Gerrard isn't.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I agree Gerrard can go with the blessing of most supporters but it's his avoidance of the subject that I take exception to.

He said he wanted to concentrate on the WC yet Dirk finds the time to talk about LFC just before the final.

That's my problem with SG.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Exactly! Selfish bullshit merchant trying to get the best for himself, rather than thinking about the club and supporters he is supposed to love.

Well, Gerrard said he would make a statement after the World Cup is ended. Maybe he will say something next week.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not wanting to talk about Liverpool during the WC was a bullshit time wasting exercise by Gerrard to stall and see what plays out first.

He's waiting to see if a big offer comes in and get one last big paycheck before he retires I reckon.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Kuyt has made both Gerrard and Torres look like cunts today. He's getting ready for the World Cup final but had the time to commit himself to Liverpool, the other two haven't bothered. Gerrard had the time to say he wouldn't quit international football, but nothing about Liverpool.

Years Team Apps† (Gls)†
1998–2003 Utrecht 160 (51)
2003–2006 Feyenoord 101 (71)
2006– Liverpool 141 (36)

I remember his time at Feyenoord scoring many goals. 71 in 101 games is a lot. But then at Liverpool he was played wider. Not sure he can re-do what he's done for Feyenoord though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Lami-except the first season he's played wide right.

I agree he's not the goal machine he was in Holland (who ever is?) my point is that he did do OK back up front last season.

(around the time of Spurs at Anfield for example)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Maybe you should try him up front in pre-season and see how it goes.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Voronin had brilliant pre-seasons, we know what happened next though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Kuyt is a fantastic professional, and dedicated to LFC.
My respect for him has gone up a lot...

Gerrard is a mixed thing..... on one hand he has'nt bothered to commit
himself to LFC but was desperate to say he wants to play for England...
But then again he has served LFC for a long time and maybe deserves
a chance to go to Spain or Italy .....
I personally prefer him to leave ... I think it will have the same effect on LFC
as Ballack missing from Germany.... we will become a better team not over-reliant
on 2 players ... I am optimistic about Hodgson... he won't stand for selfish players
who just want to improve their own game and focus on the team as a whole...

Torres....though....LFC has made him the big name striker that he has
become and I think he should honor his 5-yr contract he signed last May.
At least give it one more season.....in gratitude to LFC.

Masch....better he leaves and gets us some money for hungrier players...

Re: Liverpool Thread

So Roy is a puppet then. Fucking joke of a club that we've become.

Fuck off Purslow.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Roy Hodgson is impressed with Emiliano Insua, but the Liverpool manager admits “talks with Fiorentina have already started.”

The Viola have been linked with the 21-year-old wing-back for several weeks and it seems negotiations are reaching a key stage.

“I saw him play in the last three days and I like him both as a player and on a personal level,” Hodgson told Radio Blu in Florence.

“However, talks with Fiorentina started before I got here, so I don’t know how advanced they are.

“I cannot say if Insua will stay at Liverpool or not. I’ll have to discuss that with the club.”

The Italian media is confident that Argentine international Insua will join Fiorentina over the summer.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Purslow previously said that Fiorentina showed an interest in Insua but nothing would happen until a new manager came in. But Roy comes in and talks had already started?!

And Roy? "Oh, Mr Purslow! You want to sell players? Regardless of what you're newly appointed manager of the team thinks? That's fine Mr Purslow, boss."

I get the impression that if Purslow wants a player gone, Roy isn't going to have even the slightest backbone to stand up and say he wants that player to stay. That's why Rafa was forced out.

Fucking joke.

Aurelio has left the club, Insua is our only left back now. And Roy wont be given any money to sign another LB so Figueroa is out of the question. Let's hope Snoogy Doogy is good at left-back eh?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I read a few weeks ago that the Insua deal with Fiorentina was all but done and that he wanted to leave so maybe it's not all Roy's fault? And who says he won't have any money for a replacement? I thought he had around £15m to spend?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rafa was promised that he'd get money as well, and that any money from sales would be his.

It never happened and it wont happen now with Roy either. If Torres goes for £60m, you think Roy will see that? He's got as much chance of seeing that £60m as Ferguson had of seeing the Ronaldo money.

In other Roy quotes, he's stated that no players will be sold until replacements are lined up. And that fringe players will be given chances. Doesn't strike me as saying Roy's got any money to spend.
