Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

If La Viola are about to get Insua though, I wonder if that means Vargas is off to Real Madrid or something. Or perhaps Insua is happy to warm up the bench?? Should be interesting. Let's see what happens...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Avoiding talk on the latest news to add to our pantomime-club, anyone think Uruguay's number 17; Arevola would be decent, cheap replacement for Masch?

Doesn't look like a player but I've been watching him closely and he seems decent. Good passing too (setup Forlans goal last night and showed other offensive qualities).

* when i say he doesn't look like a player I mean he's short bald and a bit fat!

Re: Liverpool Thread

That 's some serious accusation he's made. I never liked him as a player and now i dont like him as a person.

Oh come on, it's not like Yossi's the first ex-player to come out and say something along those lines since Rafa's been there. Are you not starting to see a pattern here?

Rafa isn't god, he isn't bigger than the club. He was a decent manager but he had some serious faults and some fans need to realise that.

Yossi said that goal he scored in the EL semi meant so much to him as it was a goodbye to the fans and the club, yet you're slagging him off cos he felt so down about the way you're OLD manager handled him. I really don't get it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I tend to agree with you jumbo. Benayoun derserves credit for what he did for Liverpool.

But it is strange that he left Liverpool knowing that the only person who disgusted him had left (or was going to leave).

I think he did the logical thing, there was an offer from a bigger club (at least right at this moment) and left. I seriously do not think that Benitez is to blame for Yossi joining Chelsea.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I know what you're saying and I'm sure that played a big part in it but from reading the quotes, he says Rafa told him to find a new club towards the end of the season.. I remember reading that he'd said on Israeli radio that he'd agreed to sign for them, this was about 2 weeks before the World Cup so I'm pretty the deal was all in place before Rafa had left.

The reason he didnt actually leave until last week was because the 2 clubs were trying to agree a price.

If he'd already agreed the deal it's not like he could tell Chelsea he wants to stay now Benitez has left so rip the contract up.

the thing is, the only players that have really attacked Benitez are Riera - a player who thinks he's much better than he is, Alonso - who didn't like the fact that Benitez wanted to sell him after two average seasons and Benayoun - a squad player who didn't want to be dropped. I suppose you could include Babel but he's said several times that he really respected Benitez and understood why he did things his way.

The only pattern i see is that some players need to be mollycoddled and treated like superstars all the time and when they're treated like everyone else they don't like it.

That's very true.

And about joining a "bigger" club, is there any player nowadays who'd refuse and would rather stay at the club he loves and belongs to and make it a bigger club?

I think most player take the easiest way out. If a player's status becomes bigger, I'd love to see him stay and lift his club to his status. That's a legend to me.

I agree with that but that's footballers these days and Rafa seems to be having trouble with his man-management, you can't deny that. One player saying things and you think, oh he's bitter about being left out but there's been a fair few with Benitez and there's no smoke without fire. How many more are just keeping quiet out of proffesionalism or whatever?

Pennant (I know, I know!) is another who's said these things and even Torres has said negative things about the way he deals with the players at times.

I mean, telling Benayoun he doesn't know why the fans booed when he replaced him because he wasn't good enough!! That's fucking terrible.

Jumbo, you should know that Im not a pro Benitez fan. In fact, Im one of those fans that didnt think he was god, and that wanted him to go this summer because he has clearly lost the dressing room (in fact, i said that here in December).
But, in football there are codes, and after you are gone to a rival, you cant say what Benayoun said trying to excuse why he's gonne. Cause I could probably asked him why he didnt abort the operation as soon Rafa was gone ? Clearly, he wanted a major pay before he retires and warm Chelsea's bench. It is okay by me, but you can say a lot of things about Benitez, but you cant say he is disrespectful.

What if he had already agreed with Chelsea before Benitez was gone...
so what should he do....turn back on the agreement when Benitez left ?
How would he know that Benitez would not be around ?
Should he be unethical with Chelsea when he is clearly not wanted at LFC...
He is completely justified in moving after receiving that kind of treatment.

I see no reason for Benayoun to blast Rafa AFTER leaving to Chelsea...
if all he wanted was to ditch LFC and get the money....why not just
keep quiet....why bother...be happy with your money...

To me it seems like he was driven out by Rafa...and he is letting
us LFC fans know the truth.....he is finally venting out after keeping
it bottled for so long...
to me there is no point in lying now AFTER moving to Chelsea...
it is not like us fans were baying for his blood....that he had to say
something...

Rafa was good for LFC to a point, he got us to be feared in Europe once again......but you can see a pattern with
his lack of man-management and the way he freezes out players,
his favoritism and dropping the more skilful players in favor of
workhorses and defensive play.... (see Riera complaining of the negative
football and sinking ship)
and his constant complaining and excuses that came to the fore last year.

I am glad we have got Hodgson, a manager who will solely focus on
the Football team....and not on complaining or fighting with everyone...
and he will lift our team spirit.

Sums it up though, if they were proper professionals (like Scholes who has never said a word) it would be all kept in-house. If they want to leave they hand in their transfer request and that's it. No-one should be going to the press, Benitez has not said a bad word about the players so why should they turn around and have a go at him?

Tbh I'm not bothered about what he has said, and Benitez probably needed to go aswell. What is annoying is the lack of professionalism from these millionairs!

I'm with Jumbo and Mathewsss on this Benayoun stuff.

Arevalo.

One of the best players in this tournament. I agree. Looked really good. Had maybe one 'average' match against Ghana but was very good in all others. Diego Perez right next to him is also very good of course but he's already set for PSG I think after leaving Monaco finally.

Re: Liverpool Thread

A fucking joke. Now Torres is probably out until September, just to come back, play three games in a row and then out until January.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not sure why your bothered, I'm sure Ancelotti will be pissed though ;))
Do you really think that the Yanks are going to sell the only player that sells t-shirts and that generates money to a club there are about to sell ? No, they are going to sell squad players like Benayoun, Riera, Insua (and dont replace them because they couldnt care less about football)but they arent going to sell the only player that constantly brings money into the club and make the sponsors pay the money the pay.

exactly the same what i was thinking...if we sell Mascherano, he would fit in his place imo...was one of best Uruguay players, still player in Uruguay league..

tbh, Rafa did great with such board we have running our club...he did what he could...bouth cheap players that now have twice or more the prize than when we bouth them...

He did mistakes with transfers but Keane - was he realy rafas signing? i doubt this...

and dont be so happy with Hodgson, i mean, he is good person, he did great with Fulham, but let´s not be happy he is here untill we have Gillet and Hicks running our club...

just as if Insua news now are not enough.. to think.. if Hodgson has even a thing to say about the players currently....

i would calm down... first you dont have a clue if he is even injured after the final..not to say bullshit he is probably out untill september...

then, the thing we missed him that much last season is..we did not have a good player in the club to replace him in his injury...wich we now have i hope in Jovanovic..

second, i dont understand the "fucking joke" words... The guy has scored regulary and did break a scoring record, he scored amazing goals and we all know he is capable of it when 100% fit, again and again..

yes he now has difficult time with injurys but as LFC fan you should support the player instead of saying things that.. as if he wanted to be injured...show some respect or faith..He signed with us for 6 years...that is some faith in us dont you think?

you have to see he never was injured as player of Atletico, he plaes high level football since hes teens years...damn he was Atletico captain with 18 (!)

this pisses me off in some of our fans.. i mean if he is fit he is best in the world, no better striker in premier league...but when he has problems, i bet you would agree the joke of prize Chelsea prepeare now and would buy...anyone..

Dude, dont you think is a fucking joke that,he has contrained almost all of his injuries playing with Spain ? With us I only rememberd the one against Reading and then he reinjured against Benfica. But, the other injuries were with Spain.
The thing I said about being injured til September I said it because I was angry, Im surprised you are not at least bothered by the fact that our best player has been injured for the half of the last two seasons and it seems he is not going to be avaivable for our match in two weeks and he has contrained almost all his injuries with Spain.
Ahh, and the fact that he is an injury-prone player has nothing to do with his quality. So I dont understand the comment you made .. I still think that he is the best striker in the world.
The fucking joke words of course werent for Torres. It 's just that I hate international football, I couldnt be more happy that the World Cup is over and that in two few weeks there are the Uefa qualification and then the Premier League comes back. If it wasnt for Spain, he wouldnt have been injured the last two seasons as much as he was and things would have been A LOT different.

That did cheer me up :P. Look at his scarf !

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good photo and nice that it was taken with a Liverpool scarf around him as well. Gives a bit more hope that he's going to stay with us at least.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Or it's just a cynical attempt to not have to say anything and keep the fans pleased.....

Anyway, is there a list somewhere with all the out of contract players this summer? Then we can have a look who we might sign this season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Jovanovic is not a player who can replace Torres.
He is a player that plays on the left and not in the centre. Furthermore, he's not a typical goal scorer.
Decent player, but more of a provider than a goal scorer.

why would he do that...he has the scarf almost if not in all celebration photos...photos that he will be in his photoalbum forever...if he did not love LFC, he would not do it...

to post above, i dont say i am not worried, but to say he is injured with spain only is not true...i mean.. he was also injured in LFC and maybe the thing yesterday was just looking scary...or better said, we dont know what condition he is now...so to say something we dont know for shure is only speculations..

This season, he contrained his injury against Reading, and then again against Benfica. But last season I remember surely, that all his injuries were contrained with Spain.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Any day now we'll have Gerrard saying he wants to stay at Liverpool ... what he won't say is because Real Madrid don't want him so he has no choice.

More sulking next season then?
