Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm struggling to see how the red card stats of our two teams is an argument in favor of Manchester United.

We came second without being diry cunts?

Red cards...for...two of them iffy the rest were spot on!

The closest we got to a sending off, ironically was, our own two players having a spat!

Ah, you know what, this renewed rivally between us two, in the last few years its been a bit crap hasn't it? Now its heating up, and now the two greatest football teams in the land are back fighting at the top. How it should be.

I'm just pissed that its taken us up until now to get our act together when you are breathing down us necks at all our records.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think it's in response to the suggestion that United get biased ref decisions in their favour all the time. The red cards as well as penalty count show that infact Liverpool have had more decisions go their way (whether they were legit or not is irrelevant). You're right though, that incident on Sunday probably was one of the only time you could've had a player sent off, only other time I can think of is Gerrard agaisnt Chelsea when Lampard went although at the same time just the one yellow he got is probably acceptable.

Re: Liverpool Thread

an extract from the Guardian that is rather interesting!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ferguson's rivals must take their comfort where they can. Benítez was complaining again at the weekend about United's superior financial resources, but as he prepares for another season of attempting to outwit Ferguson the Liverpool manager may be encouraged not just by the knowledge that his team have lost only two league matches this season to United's four defeats, but by a quirkier statistic showing that the 36 titles shared by the two clubs, going back to 1901, have come in an order that suggests a sort of football version of the Fibonacci sequence.

First Liverpool won two, then United won two. Then Liverpool won three, after which United won three. Liverpool's sixth was followed by United's sixth, and their seventh by United's seventh. Then Liverpool won 11, followed by 11 for United. To maintain an elegant symmetry that has lasted more than a century, Liverpool must be the next to win the title – a thought that will not impress Ferguson.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I read that yesterday, I love things like that, hopefully the pattern will be broken this time though :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Eh? So if a penalty IS a penalty and it's given to Liverpool, then it's classed as a decision that's gone our way even though it was the correct decision? :CONF:

I generally regard something as "going their way" as being the decision was given although it was debatable, no?

Re: Liverpool Thread

So seing as the season is over for you lot, How much you reckon Rafa will be given in the summer and who you think he might get? The obvious positions our the fullbacks, wingers and a striker im presuming. Might he go for Barry again?

Re: Liverpool Thread

£20m give or take I think we'll get. I think we will go back for Barry, and I also think we'll get a striker in although it won't be a superstar striker but someone with a good goalscoring record in Italy or Spain I guess. Although I can see Tevez joining us this summer and I'd gladly have him in a Liverpool shirt :D I think Downing is a real possibility as well.

Not sure if we'll do much with fullbacks as Aurelio and Insua are good LB's and Arbeloa is decent, with Degen hopefully staying injury-free as we haven't barely seen him yet. With Hyypia leaving, I think we may sign another DC to replace him although it won't be a superstar as we already have Carragher, Skrtel and Agger so will likely be an experienced player like when we signed Pellegrino.

Don't think Alonso will be sold this summer but I do think Babel and Dossena will be off and should hopefully raise us £15m-£20m in total. I wouldn't be completely shocked if Lucas left to join an Italian or Spanish club either.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'd love to see you lot get fleeced for Downing.

He's English, so automatically overpriced, and thats before you figure in that he cannot cross to save his fucking life.

Please, please go for him :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

doubt it, hes not that bitter. If we got Tevez, we'd have to sell Alonso, he's actually said he wont now.

I would get in a right back. Sorry for Arbeloa just doesn't cut the mustard at the level required, he's a great backup/utillity player, but we need someone who is more adventereous going forward, just look at the difference when Chelsea attack down their right. Boswinga's crossing is sublime most of the time, Arbeloa often stops when it a good crossing position and passes it to Kuyt and the ball simply gets pushed out to the left instead where do have people who can cross.

I wouldnt mind going English for our RB slot, if the 6+5 rule comes in we need to be prepared, because two english players in the starting eleven obviously leaves us with lots of work to do to get the English contingent up. RB would be a good place to start.

I havent' seen enougn of Darby to make a comment.

A right back, someone who can play anywhere along our attacking three behind Torres, and another player to backup to Torres, with the abillity to win headers/hold it up/offer something different.

Re: Liverpool Thread

This is a very nice work done by Girard....
I like this man on the ground when he play he play with his determination and enthusiasm..

Re: Liverpool Thread

We'll get Barry, Johnson, Silva, and a striker.

There you go.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The red cards as well as penalty count show that infact Liverpool have had more decisions go their way (whether they were legit or not is irrelevant).

Honestly......it could just be that they have attacked far more this season as opposed to the 1-0 merchants ;)

As for the 6+5 rule, that isnt 6 english + 5 foreigners is it? I seem to remember it's 6 homegrown and 5 non homegrown and there is a certain cut-off point for homegrown (Insua might be able to pass for example, although Im not sure).

I actually think Arbeloa has been good this season, he's attacked far more and goes past players. He never used to. LB is fine aswell, and Dossena needs time and should be able to show he quality next season.

I would go for a striker/attacking midfielder and a winger. Kuyt is solid and good for the big games but just isn't good enough to unlock a defense of 10 men so I would want to rotate him with someone that has speed and can trick a defender or two. And the same for the attacking midfielder/striker slot, someone like Garcia but stronger. Not sure if Tevez fits the bill for that. I would leave the leftside as it is, Reira has done pretty good in his first season and Babel will have to develope. I would say the squad is in a postion now like Manu's a couple of seasons ago where there is enough quality to be able to develope Babel/Dossena in enough games whilst retaining enough quality in the team to win. Otherwise you just end up with players/positions being rotated every two seasons with new players which imo doesnt mean the best results. Keeping as much of the team the same with one or two new editions is the best imo.

Re: Liverpool Thread

There you go.

Fuck me if you can pull that off then good stuff. Not sure why you would want Silva and Barry though.(combined would cost close to 35M)Silva mostly plays behind the CF so why would you want to beak up the Gerrard/Torres combo and hasn't Silva said he won't leave Spain?

Barry isn't as good as Alonso so not sure the thinking behind that unless you get rid of someone to generate cash.

Johnson would be a good solid signing.

I hope you end up wit the following though,

Downing, Tuncay, Barry and some Italian/Spanish RB who fails :DD

Re: Liverpool Thread

Barry would play ahead of Lucas though, and is a better option on the left instead of Babel I feel.

Wonder if he'll turn out like Le Tallec or if your lucky Cheyrou:P

Are you sure about that? I thought Arbeloa was a surprise this year and easily one of your best players. Or is that just because I thought he was completely useless in the past?

And Bosingwa's crossing is actually awful.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeh he'd be a good solid signing, Wether Rafa buys him is another story. He might sell Alonso, Buy Barry, Sell Barry, Sign Downing. ;))

Re: Liverpool Thread

Haha, you're fucking hoping he goes for Downing, don't you? Think he's better than Riera myself, but anyways, he's injured for 6 months, so that's out the equation.

Johnson is very likely. We were close to signing him in January, and the ITKs around say that we're favorites to sign him this summer.

I'll put a bet that we'll get Barry and Johnson. Others, we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Here's a thought Abhi, Say Rafa decided he was going to splash all his money on 1 player this summer, Say Ribery, would you be happy with that or would you prefer to tone that down and go for 2-3 below that class.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Depends what price you're talking. Rafa's going to have 40M+ when you consider sales etc, and I don't think any player is worth around 40M. What I think will happen is we'll get a player around the 20M, and couple of players for 10M. Which is what should happen.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It should be an interesting summer as Rafa is in control of transfers this time, and not sodding Parry.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Guillem Balague;

Valencia are willing – they have to – sell the player and will want things sorted quickly, so they will probably be happy to do business with the first club to put an acceptable offer on the table. At this moment in time, neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid have made a move for Silva – and if it ends up as a straight fight between Juventus or Liverpool, the player would prefer a move to Anfield.

That does not mean David Silva is definitely on his way to Liverpool, but it does mean that there has perhaps never been a better time to try and secure the services of one of the most talented attacking midfielders in Europe. However, Rafa Benitez is going to have to play his cards cleverly as, following the initial contact, Valencia have been told that before Liverpool make a second approach, Benitez will have to offload a couple of players first.

He's usually quite good with Liverpool news and rumours so this is good news :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Let's hope it's not anything above 15-17M. He's talented, but lacks end product.
