Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not sure where you got that Lavezzi story Abhi, not heard about it anywhere :SS I doubt Rafa would be looking to much yet. He's got the Golden Glove to focus on and making this another memorable season...

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Gazzetta is probably the only reliable source their. I still think it would be a mistake to get him. Would cost in region of 25M+ and I think their better players out their more suitable for you lot.

Re: Liverpool Thread

FFS, Pool isnt even on the sports channels today, all they are showing is the relegation battle. Which is fine enough, but they are wasting a channel on the first rounds of Roland Garros.........

Re: Liverpool Thread

Do you really want to watch Robbie Keane score against you and then run up and dry hump Redknapp infront of Benitez?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Lol, well they didn't get it, but neither did Chelsea, but I remember Cech got 21 and Reina got 20 so Cech gets the GG.

Re: Liverpool Thread

FFS, gonna have to cancel the opentop bus tour now*

Thought I might aswell get it in before the "mancs" do :D
Aye, them damn bastards at the FA, it's all a conspiracy...

Bet Carra feels like a twat after using it as his excuse and yet they failed to keep a CS anyway.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ah well, I've enjoyed this season and it's been good to see us up there challenging at the end so I'm pretty pleased. I read somewhere that no team has won the Prem at the first attempt at challenging but the next season they won it, I think that's definately a possibilty for us.

Let's see what happens with transfers now. Rafa has got complete control now so there's a lot of pressure on him to make the right signings and shore up our squad so that we can cope more when the likes of Gerrard and Torres are injured (moreso Torres) and I'm looking forward to the transfer window now.

Interesting season really, and it should hopefully be a successful one next season :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rafa Benitez has made peace with Sir Alex Ferguson in a private letter.

The pair have been at loggerheads all year, but the Liverpool boss wrote to Fergie after the Manchester United manager’s grandson was badly injured in a car crash.

Benitez, a father of two girls, wrote offering his help while 10-year-old Charlie Ferguson is at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

An Anfield insider said: "There is an intense football rivalry between them, but that’s all it is - a football rivalry. Everything that has been said has been designed to gain an edge on the pitch. But when it comes to matters like this, Rafa is a family man who understands exactly what Sir Alex is going through.

"He wants to help any way he can. Rafa knows how difficult it must be, and he feels for a fellow manager who he respects as a person and a family man himself."

Charlie underwent a six-hour operation following the crash in which his mother Nadine, ex-wife of Ferguson’s son Darren, was also hurt earlier this month.

The relationship between Benitez and Ferguson broke down when the Liverpool manager launched an extraordinary attack on his rival at the turn of the year. They have since taken regular verbal swipes at each other.

But the letter will help build bridges and another source said: "Rafa wanted Sir Alex to know that if he or his family needed anything while the youngster was in Liverpool, they only had to ask."

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah, he was class, a shame that he's leaving because there aren't many other good role models like him at Liverpool.

Re: Liverpool Thread

No their either xenophobes/racists or go out and smack DJs. :D

And that thing about the letter was from before he refused to congratulate Fergie the other day which makes me think it's either not true, or this whole thing between them is made up for the papers and secretly they love each other

Re: Liverpool Thread

Anyone else noticed how many digs the Utd fans have been getting in now they've won the league but pretty much stayed quiet before then?

Bit boring to be honest, nothing like being a polite winner.

Re: Liverpool Thread

As if we'd have heard the end of it if you'd have won anything.

That wasn't a dig anyway, the first bit was a joke about Carra & Gerrard and the second bit wasn't a dig in any way shape or form.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh it was just a joke cos of what he said in his book

On former teammate Rigobert Song:

'He strolled off to all his French speaking friends and began talking to them. I could see him pointing towards me while everyone was grinning. It was clear what he was saying and the rage inside me simmered.

'Later, Song walked on to the training pitch with a smile on his face. He was limping off it with a grimace an hour later. The first chance I got, I did him. Never have I hunted down a 50-50 tackle with greater appetite

"You're not f***ing laughing now are you, you soft t**t?" I said as he hobbled away.

'Did I care he had a knock? No way. I don't remember him or anyone else in the squad for that matter trying to take the **** out of my ability again.'

And from another part

'I've got two brothers who find it hard to work in Liverpool in this Capital of Culture year. One of the reasons is we've made it too easy for all those foreigners to come here and take our jobs.'

What a nice guy.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Almost cried when I saw Sami wear the armband. He was still our best defender IMO. Leverkusen got a bargain.

YNWA Sami!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Jumbo/Abou,

Carra aint an angel, but I can't see how either of those two examples constitute racism??

so he's racist because he had a bit of an bust up with Rigobert Song? Is this the same theory that gets applied to any white man beating up a black man....hmm it must have been racist? Foreginers taking jobs....yes it happens, have you not heard of "postive" discrimination, its a little ignorant to say it, as there are more factors at work, but its not racist.

And are you saying people like Nando, Alonso, Reina, Arbeloa, Benayoun, Aurelio, Kuyt (you couldn't meet a nicer person/proffesional) etc aren't positive role models.
