Re: Liverpool Thread
exactly, and by time, i don't mean days or weeks... it's probably a matter of months. just after 6 or 7 months u will be able to be sure wheter he was able to settle in liverpool or not.
i mean, how many official matches did he play so far this season? 4? 5? it's absolutely impossible to express any kind of opinion on a player, just after 5 matches..... especially when he's a new signing..... and especially when he's coming from another league.... a very, very different league.... especially when he comes from a very, very different country (wich doesn't mean just different wheather, but also different food, different lifestyle, different training systems... different people).
i have a huge lot of friends who moved to england (basically London and southampton) in the last few years (something like 20 or 25, reallly a lot of people). now they love it. but they all told me the same thing: "
the first 3\4 months were awful, i was so depressed, i just couldn't feel at home here etc...."
i guess it's like for brazilian people coming in italy. when a brazilian moves to palermo or napoli, he will hardly have any kind of adaptation issues.... but if he moves to milano, for instance, then the change will be so "brutal", it will take a few months for him to handle it.
i already told u months ago that dossena comes from a city (Udine) wich is very far from the tipycal italian standards (the people is very introvert, the wheater is pretty "british", the whole city is pretty quiet), wich is a factor that might help him in settling in england.
now i can also tell u that if i would have to pick 5 italian players who would suit the most premiership football, dossena would be one of 'em... definitely.
of course i don't now him personally, neither i ever met him, but given his features, and his personality (or at least the impression he gave me, listening to his few interviews), he looks very reserved and shy, hard worker, preofessional..... pretty much the opposite of the usual italian features

and this too might help him in adapting to premiership.....
but in the end, all theese factors don't really mean anything, as they can't give u the absolute certainty that he will ever really settle in england.
elano, deco, robinho, they definitely aren't the "most likely to settle in premiership players ever"... but still it seems they're doing a good job.
xabi alonso himself, really isn't the "tipycal premiership player", but still it seems he didn't have big troubles in adapting himself to premiership.
so, all in all, this is not a perfect science, there's no rule, no specific wich can tell u if a player will settle in the the team or not.
neither it has anything to do with the quality of the player. there are some world class players who had big troubles in settling in england (like sheva, malouda, suker, panucci, crespo, mutu, dino baggio, etc....), as well as many mid-class players who instantly adapted theselves to british footie.
so just be patient and wait until (at least) jannuary to express a reliable opinion on his performances in england.
however, talking about the quality of the player, there's nothing to argue. u either know him or not. but those of u who know dossena, they know he has what it takes to be one of the very best left backs in premiership.
