Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Until we sort out our set pieces and Rafa fucks Kuyt off to Hamburg we will come now where close to winning the title. We don't score simple goals, the whole of last season we relied on magic from Torres and Gerrard.

Kuyt is useless in games like this with 11 men behind the ball. Why was Reira taken off.

We needed pace and quality so theory suggests we should put Babel on the right and Reira on the left. But no we put Benayoun on the right who is even less useful than Kuyt in that position.

Oh and Xabi just isn't mobile enough!

Heck we missed Mash, he would have provided a bit of bottle.

Even if Chelsea and United draw tomorrow its an opportunity missed, and no doubt Arsenal will win next time round. But I don't even know why I'm saying that because we won't be in the race long enough for it to even count as anything!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Why are we so fucking unbelievably shit at set pieces? It's just incredible.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Really disappointed. I predicted a 4-0 scoreline.

We should have won easily with the amount of possession and chances we had.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We didn't need Masch today, we needed someone who can open up the defence, not make crunching tackles. Kinda how Cheyrou played against us the other night, he's have been great for us today.

Kuyt really lacks any kind of skill, what's the point in him? Sure he works hard, but that's it? Tim asked me the other day where I'd play Kuyt, and I couldn't give an answer. He doesn't fit in any position.

Why was Riera taken off? Our most creative player but he leaves Kuyt on.

Is Torres still unfit? He hasn't looked right at all this season, no dynamic runs, seems to lack confidence?

Alonso has also been poor this season, maybe the Barry saga is affecting him but he needs to pull his finger out.

Gerrard can leave for all I care. We rely on him too much. When things dont go our way, we constantly look around the pitch trying to get a pass to Gerrard, far too predictable. And when he does get the ball, he tries to spray Hollywood passes or shoot from 30-yards all the time. Good player on his day but generally too inconsistant and too much influence. Read Henry at Arsenal, I really do believe we should let Gerrard go and work as a proper team instead of funnelling everything through him.

Arbeloa needs to learn how to cross properly.

Benayoun needs to learn he's beat a player, then the next player. Then pass, not try and take the piss, knobhead.

Keane needs to get himself in order. He missed an absoloute sitter by hitting a 6-yard shot into the CENTRE of the goal. He wasn't running into space for passes, he didn't run to the near-post for crosses.

Torres likewise I guess, needs more off the ball running. In fact the whole team do, and it's been like this all season with Liege being another occasion. The players need to learn the ball wont magically appear at their feet, there really are defenders around them who will tackle them.

Dossena hasn't impressed me once. Looks a liability defending and crosses about as good as Arbeloa ... actually Arbeloa is a better crosser.

Fuck, what a joke of a game. Really does take the shine off beating United when we go and drop points like these.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good post. Sums up the frustration.

Kuyt is basically a defender. He comes in handy for his work rate in the tough games but games like these he's really not needed because he hardly offers anything going forward.

Torres doesn't look sharp. He needs to find his form. As for Keane, he just can't seem to get good contact on the ball when it matters, but he's getting in the right positions so I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

I think Arbeloa had a decent game but the rest of the players were substandard.

Possibly a Utd win or a draw in that game and an Arsenal defeat will make things better, but nevertheless, what a disappointment. Truly awful.

Re: Liverpool Thread

all true but people who slag kuyt off should look at the goals we needed wich he scored, bet he was ur best player then ay, less armchair supportin ay, infact winning goal was set up by kuyt againts manks... he got us into the group stages againts liege, milan last season, should i go on, he works his ass off and doesnt even play in his prefered possition, i agreeriera shouldny have come off, he looked sharp all game, was saddend by the chants "what a waste of money" directed at keane tho, hell come good

Re: Liverpool Thread

So nobody else would've scored the goals that Kuyt has scored? And what does "armchair supporting" have to do with Kuyt being useless attacking? Sorry mate but those points you made there are rubbish.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You're top of the league you grumpy arseholes.

That's one thing I definately hate hearing at this stage. Weren't Everton top at this stage last season or so? West Ham are 4th, Hull 7th, I have a feeling that neither team will be close to that position come the end of the season.

And if we don't start finishing teams off (I'm sure I was saying this last season), then we wont be close to our current position either.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ah c'mon mate, you know I give credit when it's due but you can't say they deserve credit for today?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Dossena looks like a poor signing so far..Keane needs a goal to take the heat off.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Chill out guys it's not like we've lost the game.

Lacking of ideas at the end really, tired legs after the Marseille game, Benayoun almost gave us the spark, Gerrard coming back but not quite there yet. Riera didn't have much idea either. It all goes back to moving without the ball, and since it's basically the same team that started in on Wednesday, they just ran out of gas abit too early in the game.

No, they don't. But equally, it's stupid to say we can't challenge for the title based on one game. You can't we played poorly. We did play well, kept the ball moved it around. We did create chances, enough to win the game, but obviously, Keane hasn't got a clue at the moment, and neither does Nando. Say what you want about Kuyt, but he created far more opportunities than either of the two, or Gerrard. At least he had the sense (with Riera) that crosses are far more effective drilled rather than floated.

My biggest gripe about this game is our lack of set piece threat. We're awful at them, and it's an understatement. And Agger should have played. Even Carra was able to play around their penalty box, and I can imagine Agger would have cost far more problems.

Anyways, it's just time to learn from our mistakes. And this result will not have an affect on a title challenge. Last season, United had 74 points against teams out of the Top 4, compared to our 72. You can already see a difference in that statistic when you put our win against them to perspective. We should have won, but this happens. We got 3 easy games next until the Chelsea game, and we need to win those.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I agree about Agger playing, he's got a cracking shot and with us being restricted to long range shots most of the time, he'd have got a good few attempts.

Someone's got too much time on their hands

The eyes on Anderson and Neville look well scary!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think the narrow win over a piss-poor Utd had given you too much expectation for this season, personally i thought you'd played better in past games against Utd where you ended up on the losing side. Stoke came and to qoute José " parked the bus"...but you're gonna get that from teams who cant match you ability wise...Utd get that most home games, you gotta learn how to deal with it and break them down. Last week was to early to say you were definate title contenders and this weeks to early to say you're not.
