Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think the narrow win over a piss-poor Utd had given you too much expectation for this season, personally i thought you'd played better in past games against Utd where you ended up on the losing side. Stoke came and to qoute José " parked the bus"...but you're gonna get that from teams who cant match you ability wise...Utd get that most home games, you gotta learn how to deal with it and break them down. Last week was to early to say you were definate title contenders and this weeks to early to say you're not.

yes and this was the first time any team has parked the bus at Anfield......:brick:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Can't see it happening to be honest. It's the press trying to stir shit up because he hasn't gotten into the team.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Benayoun needs to learn he's beat a player, then the next player. Then pass, not try and take the piss, knobhead.

Saw that in the highlights, really should of
drove forward towards the keeper instead of
trying to twist the defender one two many times.

I agree on the Kuyt criticism what's the point
of playing him against a team like stoke on the
wing of a 4-4-2?

Torres needs a rest.

Agger should play on midweek.

We've got a stronger squad this season just lacking
a bit of pace and creativity still.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Imagine the uproar if we dropped Torres for a game

The press would have a field day!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Anyone else think Pacheco would've been a good sub for the Stoke game? Or Nemeth?

Having seen Pacheco this pre-season, I think he would've been able to unlock their defence with a bit of trickery, as well as his running off the ball.

Or he would have probably been battered by the Stoke defenders.

Re: Liverpool Thread

People said the same about Robinho not being able to handle the Prem too.

I think Pacheco could handle himself in the Prem, and against Stoke I think he'd have coped well. His trickery at running around defenders would cause them to commit tackles and could easily result in pens or free kicks.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Would of been nice to see anyone with a bit of pace and
trickery. Was El Zhar on the bench?

Speaking of exciting players such a shame we didn't just loan
Pongelle out to spain because the guy is turning into a top
class sriker.

Come on mate, Robinho and Pacheco? It's stupid to even compare them. Pacheco still has a long time to go before he's ready. Another season perhaps.

Agree about Pongolle though. Though even if he was in the squad, Kuyt would still be ahead of him.

Can't really fault the performance except the lack of the goal. It was unlike last season's performances against such sort of teams, and we actually played well I thought. If Keane or Torres had a bit of last season's scoring touch, we would have won by a comfortable margin. The only area where I can complain is set pieces, but I've just accepted Rafa doesn't give a damn.

I was only comparing builds though, Abhi. Obviously different in ability at this point but similar builds, right?

Re: Liverpool Thread

If Rafa doesn't give a shit about attacking set pieces then he shouldn't be the manager of a team looking to win the league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You lot are worrying to much, It seems like you lot DO think your current side can win the league then? ;))

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think we've got the best side we've had in years. Whether that's enough remains to be seen but I think we'll get closer this year, sure.

Re: Liverpool Thread

While Agger is almost certain to start, it is unlikely that either Jay Spearing or Stephen Darby, who impressed during pre-season, will even be included in the squad for tonight’s game.

One player definitely starting is Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri, who will make his competitive debut for Liverpool following his summer signing from Palmeiras.

“Normally, Diego will play in the Carling Cup,” said Benitez. “He is a fantastic professional who is learning all the time about English football.

“It’s a different style to what he was used to in Brazil but I think he showed in pre-season that he can do everything well. He’s a good goalkeeper and can challenge Pepe Reina.”

Philipp Degen could also make his debut this evening, while Emiliano Insua, Damien Plessis, Nabil El Zhar, Lucas Leiva, David Ngog and Sami Hyypia are also hopeful of figuring.

However, Fabio Aurelio is still out while Jermaine Pennant is doubtful after sustaining a knock during while playing for reserves last week.

Re: Liverpool Thread

But you lot were saying that you didnt think you can win the league yet just a few weeks back, and now you suddenly think that you can? I now you lot expect to be challenging and thats what your currently doing so im not sure? or do you think its your year :DD

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's always our year  I've given up on expecting things from our season until we get 3/4 of the way. Too many false hopes over the last decade so I'm going to reserve judgement for now ;))

Re: Liverpool Thread

To be fair you lot do have a good size squad and a lot of quality aswell, Maybe 1 or 2 more players and you'll be there IMO. :))

I said I didn't think will win the league.

But we do have a side that's CAN win the league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Bleh ...

Unfortunately, summer signing Philipp Degen is facing another spell on the sidelines after breaking two ribs during the second half of last night's game.
