It shocks me that (year in year out) Liverpool can play a team that hasn't lost a game in however-many-matches (something like 30 according to Clive there on ITV) and put in a great performance that gives them a 2-0 advantage, and yet in a couple of weeks against Wigan or whoever they'll be lucky to get a draw. Astonishing, the best in Europe beaten 2-0, the worst in the Premier League and it's panic stations.

Can you imagine what the Barnsley and Havant & Waterlooville players are doing now? Texting everyone in their phonebook and saying "we put two past Liverpool and Inter Milan couldn't even manage a shot on target", that's what! :mryellow:

I know Jack, its bloody frustrating. But if we win the EC for the 6th time I won't give a flying fuck about where we finish in the prem.

Its simple though, our team and our manager is far more suited to european football.

I actually prefer CL football to the Prem. But yes I'd rather win the prem.

It was such a superb game to watch, blistering pace from the word go. Genuinely, it's the most I've enjoyed a live match in a long while now, it almost makes me want to ring Setanta tomorrow and get a few more live games in. If they were all like that I'd do it in a second.

Which makes it all the more depressing that, come Saturday, they'll play disjointed football again and go down 1-0 to a goal scored by Mido's arse.

DIC. (Might I add with the DIC deal done the Masch deal will certainly be)

Canal Plus also metioned before the game that the deal is done and will be annouced after the Inter game?!

It'd have to be DIC. I very much doubt G&H would want to show their faces at Anfield these days anyway, which is why I reckon they weren't there. But I'm still hoping they sell up and leave.

But there are big rifts within our Club.

Present/new owners; owners/manager.

Owners/manager/certain players.

Owners/new manager/players;

Supporters.

We still face a very uncertain period. We need to expect a bit more turbulence before stability (hopefully) returns.

So lets be prepared for another hectic few months. I hope all will settle down, and next season all we got to do is concentrate on the on pitch activities. This season is a write off, but if all gets sorted in the next week or two, as it appears it will.. then expect comings and goings for a bit.

People in our Club have tied their flags to masts, and there will be winners and losers. I'm not trying to be cryptic, but when the ownership saga is resolved, other issues remain.

Players will leave or be sold for example. Don't ask, but all of you know that the current situation will be resolved with casualties. "

wow, i thought that game was a complete and utter bore, as soon as materazzi was sent off the game became a one sided affair, inter got tired and gave up two goals i doubt they would have given up if it had been even stevens. The madrid roma game to me was much more entertaining..

I'm afraid I agree with gomito. Thought Liverpool weren't playing that great considering the possession they had. I think this was credit to Inter's defending.

No doubt the critics will moan, but any real football fan knows that in a european tie and you play against ten men, they will park the bus and play for a 0-0, and when they're the Italian league leaders who are unbeaten, its not exactly piss easy now is it? We stuck in there and played some clever but unspectacular football, and it paid dividens. Pennant put in the best cross of the night after about 80 shit attempts and we scored from it. Crouch caused all sorts of problems. Torres faded in the 2nd half. Cesar's save was brilliant and Torres was unlucky with the 2nd effort.

we dominated for 90 minutes and finally got the result we deserved, red card or no red card.

considering Babel, Aurelio and Lucas were poor i think we played exceptionally well. Not long got back home but i can see people are saying Lucas was class, all i can say was, were you watching the same game?! He was poor tonight, the team performance was excellent and we thoroughly deserved the win, but the three players i mentioned failed to deliver (aswell as Crouch when he came on, and Hyypia was average, including one bad mistake when he kicked it as it was going to Reina, that was an amateur's mistake)

Yes, it is just unbelievable that we can have Titus fucking Bramble scoring against us at Anfield, yet Italian giants, can't get a shot on target. We are more suited to the CL, but again I feel that's due to our 'adaptable' nature which seems to be exactly our problem in the EPL. We try to adapt to Derby, when we should be beating them. Let's hope we can carry some confidence now.

Great to see the whole DIC issue getting sorted. I genuinely think that when the ownership fiasco gets sorted, it will help matters on the pitch.

And yes, Liverpool couldn't break Inter down, but really, that was due to their parking the bloody bus in front of goal. Even before Materazzi got send off, Inter hardly had a sniff of the ball, and they didn't know what hit them. Thanks to Rafa and the boys for another memorable European night \\:o/

man to say that the two goals which Liverpool scored were courtesy shitty defending gomito is crazy. The Gerrard goal was beautiful... perfectly done. Kuyt goal I liked the pass and the end result that matters is the goal right? But kudos to Liverpool totally outplayed Inter throughout the game. They deserved the victory.

Great result last night. However I cant help but think that Rafa was far too cautios after the sending off. For all the possesion the only good chance Liverpool created was thanks to a clearance deflecting off Kuyt into Torres' path. Other then that there was hardly anything happening. Offcourse that was also due to Inter defending really really well. But the formation still played as I had predicted and it left Torres Isolated, again! At one point I saw him jumping for a cross with 3 Inter players around him and not a Liverpool player around for the 2nd ball.

What annoys me is that it took 35min after the sending off to put Crouch on. The moment he came on their defense was starting to wobble and you could see it was only a matter of time before Liverpool would score. With Inter's quality I wasnt sure whether that time would come in the match as it was looking like a 0-0. In some ways I think had Crouch came on at HT the tie might have already been over as for the 15min after HT there was one "chance / decent cross" created by Liverpool.

Good performance overall though, just again lacking in the attacking department.

As for the casualties mentioned, Rafa looks like he's out. Did anyone see the Gerrard interview at the end? When asked about the result boosting Rafa he ignored it and said some generic "its about everyone at the club and no individual" comment. Now to me, had Rafa and the club been in a good position he would have reacted more positively to that question and complemented him. Or even shown his backing for Rafa as other players have done earlier in the season. My dad said it reminded him of Gerrard's other postmatch interviews just before Houiller got sacked.

@ Mike,

I would look into your diet for the week leading up to the 2nd leg. Got to make the best out of it!

I think Mike will be safe after all. I saw a good L'pool yesterday, but not a spectacular one. Inter on the other hand was unbelievably weak. I think it's gonna be a whole other game in 2 weeks, seeing that L'pool were a tad lucky yesterday. They played well, but it could eeasily have ended 0-0. I think Inter is gonna pull out everything they have in 2 weeks and should they get an early goal, then I can see things getting difficult for the Reds. Hope not, cause I hate that bastard Inter team!

Yeah but what people seem to forget is that defending away from home against the best sides in the world is what Liverpool do best. Thats how they play their best is when they can sit back and cancel out another team and then do a sucker punch, Barca last season was a great example of that.

I wont write Inter off, as I just don't know enough about them, but even at 1-0 I would have been confident Liverpool could see it through. Scoring 1 against Liverpool is a tough task when they can sit back. So at 2-0 I would expect them to be able to finish the job.

How come when we play well against Man Utd, Chelsea and Inter (three teams who aren't exactly pushovers), everyone says the opposition were poor? It's not just those teams, obviously they're the latest but it seems to be a growing trend here. Can't someone give credit where credit is due?

Edit: In fact, the more I think of it, the more it occurs. It's every big team that we play really. I can remember before when we've played other big European teams and everyone saying "nah Liverpool were average, the other team were rubbish!". Don't you guys think it had anything to do with Rafa countering the opposition's style of play? Nullifying their main attacking threats and restricting the opposition? Obviously not, it's just a bad day at the office for the opposition, of course! ;)

Don't get me wrong Dags, you earned the result yesterday by far. I even think that Inter were so helpless because of the Lpool midfield and defence (loved Hyppia and Masch btw) I just wanted to make clear that it's not over and out for Inter yet, because they'll play more aggressive in Milan. This will lead to space for Lpool attacks, but if Inter score early, then it could get difficult for the Reds 'cause I just don't see the confidence in them as I did previous years. But yesterday's win was well deserved that's for sure!

Exactly, Inter will have to attack us with everything they've got the longer the match stays 0-0 the more risks they have to take which will result in a couple of counter attacking chances that if we capitalize, will be game over for them because as good as Inter are at home I can't see them scoring 4 past us if we get that away goal. I think it'll either be 1-0, 0-0 or 0-1 to us.

Congratulations on a well deserved victory last night, i was shocked to say the least, the game bored me and its something i dont like about european football , the home team attacks! the away team usually look for a draw, but credit where credit is due and the attack was relentless, something had to give and did, i bet l/pool would have loved another 10 or 15 mins...was impressed with finan alot and kuyts 100 percent commitement, the whole team turned up tonight and what a difference that made, will look forward to the 2nd leg now at the san siro again its all about that first goal"crucial" enjoy the moment lads it aint been easy for you for quite a while.

Exactly. The onus is on Inter to come out and get 3 goals to win the game now. It's going to be hard for them to put three past us, as well as keeping us from scoring a vital away goal. I'm certainly not ruling Inter out but we've got more than a strong chance of going through.

I then pointed out Materazzi was sent off after 30 mins, and even for those 30 mins he was on, Inter didn't have the ball and create anything :lol:

Rafa is an expert at doing this. It's not that the other team didn't play well. We never allowed to play them, simple as that.

Problem comes when attacking, because our offensive play is so limited, because of the players we have. Kuyt scored, but really, he didn't do anything else. There was one play between Lucas, Babel and Gerrard, where they formed a little triangle, and got Gerrard through. That's what we should be doing more often. But the problem is none of our other players can really do that.

At 2-0, I would put my money on Liverpool. Inter know that they have to win by 2 goals, so they will attack. We aren't the easiest to break down, and we can catch them on the counter. Still not over yet though, far from it.

Anyways, now I am worried about this whole DIC fiasco. There definitely seems to be tension between Rafa and the players, especially Gerrard. I'll be very, very sad to see Rafa go. He loves this club with passion, and I feel he deserves at least another year or two. And rumours are DIC want him out as well.

I am just praying that everything resolves, because the only change I want ATM, is Yanks out, DIC in. And a no. 2 for Rafa.

Btw, Anyone else feels that we are absolutely rubbish at set pieces. We offer no danger at all. Gerrard is crap at taking dead balls, and rarely gets past the first man. And Aurelio is supposed to be a FK specialist, yet I haven't seen him taking a free kick of any use so far.

I said the same thing last night about set-pieces Ab, we've been so poor at set-pieces for ages now.

I also feel there's tension between players and management, especially Gerrard and Rafa. Last night wasn't the first time Gerrard was asked about Rafa and Gerrard shirked the question without talking about Rafa. Reading the book I've been talking about, it talks about the tension when Gerrard nearly left for Chelsea and Gerrard was completely clueless thinking Rafa had hatched this massive plan to get rid of him, when in the end it was Chelsea and the media spinning it all.

I'd like Rafa to stay, have money for the quality players in the summer, and bring through some of the young talent we've signed.

I expect Gerrard or Rafa to go in the summer, something has to give. Whoever the owners are, it'll be down to them who they view as more important. And personally I'd let Gerrard go. On his day he's one of the best players in the world. He has moments of brilliance and can change a game at a split-second. BUT these moments are less and less, people have gotten wise to his style and are marking him out of games. Which pisses Gerrard off as he can't get the space and possesion he wants so he starts sprinting everywhere like a headless chicken trying to get as much of the ball as he can, and trying Hollywood balls. This is what Rafa was talking about when he took him off against Everton and said he was playing with too much heart, and not actually trying to play in the team but trying to do it all himself. So he doesn't get his way, he sulks and throws a strop, and that gives bad vibes to everyone.

This brings another question ... would Gerrard get better if a new manager came along who he got on better with? We already know that Rafa keeps his distance from the players and doesn't get too friendly with them, the players have mentioned this themselves. It mentions in my book that the staff feel the difference between Carra and Gerrard is that Carra just gets on with things and does his thing, whereas Gerrard needs to feel wanted and needs an arm around him to let him know people are there for him.

So what if a new manager arrived that did that? Would that improve Gerrard? Again, going back to the book, Houllier was exactly the kind of manager who does that, gets all friendly with players and openly talks with everyone. And those were Gerrard's better days, right? But then we all know how much of a mess Houllier left us in.

Dilemma's dilemma's ...

I still dont understand why you guys play Lucas? I think he is one of the Dodgiest Midfield players ive ever seen!
