Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think that the best of players like Glen Johnson, Dani Alves or Maicon is when they come from the back with suprise and in the right moment. He just needs a player of his quality in the right wing and someone with football intelligence.

I agree with this, loads of people have said we should play Johnson on the right wing but i don't think it'd work. Johnson works best when he can overlap and catch the opposite fullback out.

Re: Liverpool Thread

nah i just think that he's not as bad as people make out, he's mad some mistakes this season but no moreso than any other LFC player imo, but because there's already the idea that he can't defend it goes against him more than most.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yes, I agree once again with you. He is not shit defending, it is just that, as he is so good offensively, when he makes some mistake defensively he gets more critisised than the rest. Against Manchester, the second and third goals came from the left back and none from Johnson position.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I agree too that his defensive ability is called into question more than is probably fair, just like Rooney's temperament or Titus Bramble's defending for example, but regardless, he isn't great at defending by any stretch, there's no smoke without fire as they say.

If he wasn't as fast and strong he'd probably be a lot worse too.

I just looked at the chalkboards from the match against us, Johnson attempted 5 tackles and only won one of them. Compare that to Evra (another attacking fullback) who won 7 out of 10 tackles. I know it doesn't give a full picture by any stretch but it's an important aspect of defending and gives an indication of his play.

Giggs wasn't having any trouble beating him either and he's not exactly in top form at the moment (and he's nearly 40).

Re: Liverpool Thread

Sounds like yet another shit performance ... against the mighty Northampton.

Edit:
NTFC are two points clear of the last placed team in all of English professional football. They're dominating at Anfield.Good job Roy

Liverpool is an embarrassment What other comp. are yous playing in surely not the league. Put Cole n Torres in for crying out loud! I`m not sure if you lots warrant my comments in here ,but I won`t be posting for a while (broken spirits is what Pool is doing to fans) . I will love to see Liverpool win every Trophy If Arsenal doesn`t ,even Valencia are broke and sold their best players and they look better for it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Fucking embarassment again! Fuck off, Roy!

While I agree that Hodgson has not set LFC alight....
Give him at least till the end of the season before slating him off...

Even the players have come out saying that the new manager needs time....
we're not Real Madrid where we can get a new manager every 6 months.

The embarassment is that we had 6 full internationals playing ...
and yet lost against Div 2 opponents.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's had experience managing international teams, he's managed Inter. But he can't give out tactics and instructions on how to beat a team that's barely in League Two?! Giving him time or not, I'd expect a manager of his experience to easily be able to have got passed Northampton.

Defend Roy all you want, he's not had one single game so far where he's put out a team and we've played even close to a good performance. And now we've just been beaten, at home, to the lowest ranked team in the competition.

Re: Liverpool Thread

No, Rafa would make changes if he knew the team wasn't performing, around the 60th minute. What does Roy do? Sit there scratching his head and wondering what the fuck to do.

No subs in 90 mins, despite Northampton being the better team. But then maybe if he put some strength on the bench to rely on (yes, rely on a Gerrard or Torres to beat Northampton), then maybe he would've made subs. But no, we bring on Tom Ince, Nathan Eccleston and Jonjo Shelvey.

Why is Roy so scared to make a sub? I get the impression he really doesn't have a clue what to do once the team is out on the pitch.

In other news, Inter went top of Serie A tonight.

I have heard Fulham fans say the same thing...he leaves it too late
to make subs....
Rafa had another problem...he would sub even players who performed well.

Well if Liverpool don't improve by Christmas....as in getting into
the top 6...and pushing on for top 4 by then....then by all means we
should get someone else ... but who ?

I think once we get new owners...then we can hope to see a better
manager and team....

Re: Liverpool Thread

I don't think it's got much to do with subs and tactics, to be honest. Last season when you were shit it was all the owners fault and Rafa was totally not to blame, now the same bunch of players (give or take a few) are still shit but now it's all Roy's fault!?! Ridiculous.

The players are clearly at rock bottom confidence and motivation wise and have been since near the start of last season and Roy's got a fucking job on his hands trying to sort it out. There's a lack of desire and fight that's plain for anyone to see. So far you've had a tough start in the league and that's just compunded things.

Jan Mjolby getting ripped on the radio for saying this is Rafa's legacy too. He's fucking right.

Re: Liverpool Thread

we are trully shit... if we can´t win at home against 4 division club...i dont know what will come next....

Re: Liverpool Thread

They weren't in League 2, at the bottom of it as well. Every team can go out to lower league, that's fine. It's going out to a team so low, and with the tail well and truly between their legs.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wanted to see Pellegrini ahead of Hodgson.... I'll admit that for sure.

But the thing is....we need a major clear out of players....

At the end of the day, it is the players who play on the pitch...
if a team of 6 internationals can't play against a Div 2 team....
then the problem is not the manager.... it is the players.

Even if Rafa were here....we would be crap....

Face it...2008-09 was a major fluke.....the last season showed how one-dimensional we had become.
Torres and Gerrard.....mark Gerrard ....Torres out injured...and the team sinks...
Same story this year....

Re: Liverpool Thread

I dont think that 2008-2009 was a fluke, because we also had good results the previous season. The thing is that last season there were astronomical expectations placed on the team, and it couldnt live up to expectations due to a lot of reasons (injury crisis, ownership situation, poor performace from some players, management mistakes, etc) Rafa has to take some of the fault, but in the general picture irrefutably he took us foward and not backwards like some people are now trying to say us and still blaming Benitez for our current situation.

totaly agree..and with the same owners running our club not even Mourinho + Pellegrini would sort us out..

Re: Liverpool Thread

To me it seems a mental block. Everyone knows that we won't be able to compete without new owners (and manager....), with investment in the stadium and squad. I have no expectations anymore......so why should the players? They are stuck, going through the motions as they know there's not much they can do anyway.

They totally lost the will to fight last season (losing Alonso and poor signings) and nobody will get that back with the current situation. The team is being asset stripped and propped up with 2nd choice signings while the ownership cloud hangs over the club. I don't think the squad is so poor, it's gone downhill somewhat and is lacking depth but I would expect the players to bounce back once a new, good owner comes in and maybe spends some money in january and strenghtens heavily in the summer.

This season was always a write-off, Hodgson is nothing more then an interim manager and the only focus was to keep the best players. We've lost one of the 3, and it will likely be determined by whether we get new owners this year.

Re: Liverpool Thread

definetly...yesterdays squad should have won anyway...there is no real excuse for this result.. i wait for Hodgsons and the team respond ..but as you say..i lost expectations..i just dont want us to be second Newcastle or Portsmouth...
