Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Insua's only gone on loan, he's still nowhere near ready for the Premier League and because of that he was awful in an awful lot of games last year, he cost us quite a few points thanks to him giving away so many ridiculous free kicks right on the edge of the area.
I dont agree, I think he was decent enough and that he is going to improve a lot. He also gave us some goals when he intercepted the ball and went for a fast pass and a counterattack.
How many players of his age you see being the fullback of an important team on the Premier League ? None, he only played that much because Fabio Aurelio was injured ALL the season.
He is on loan and only have 1 year left in his contract. He is gone.

I never said he was a bad player and in fact if you go back and read my older posts i've always stuck up for Insua because he's not ready, but that's just it, he's not ready. He was pretty poor for a lot of last season and made a lot of mistakes which cost us several goals and therefore cost us games. Yes he's young and yes he's definitely got potential, but he hasn't improved over the past season, he was pretty much the same all year in fact he may have actually been better at the start of the season compared to the end.

I'd rather have Konchesky right now than Insua who is a long way off.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ultimately, he was thrown in at the deep end due to Aurelio's injuries. I doubt Rafa and co. expected him to play so often but when your first choice LB is a crock, you should have a better back-up plan than chucking in an untested youngster into the fray.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Meh, hard to get remotely excited about that really.

TERRIBLE first half from us, nobody really stood out and it was pretty dire.

Second half and it took Jay Spearing to shout encouragement at the other players so loudly that the whole ground heard him and applauded him for it!

Much better in the second half, probably due to Steuau running out of energy and we were able to relax a bit more and control the game. Loved the goal by Lucas and good to see Ngog continue his goalscoring efforts.

Still, the first half was very worrying and we can't afford too many performances like that.

Expecting us to get thumped on Sunday, at least 2-0 to United.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Martin Kelly, England U21, very good right-back who's came from our youth system (!) and looks promising.

Not too excited about Meireles neither. Someone here said that with him we are finally replacing Xabi Alonso, for what Ive seen him in Porto he isnt that type of player, doesnt have the vision and creativity to be a playmaker, and today match, gave me that impression again.

Re: Liverpool Thread

who is the kelly dude?

Future of Liverpool FC an England RB for long years ;) as well...and my Avatar for long time now :P

I am realy pleased from tonights performance...even Spearing played very good tonight... we are again a team to watch, we have played good passes, especialy Cole was in the middle of everything...a bit let down by Maxi rodriguez..but then again our young guys performed very good... The goals were amazing, especialy Lucas scored a goal that i will remember :)

Great win and boost for our confidence...

Did you also heard YNWA at the end? good night tonight :)

can wait for Manchester match!!!

:CONF:

He's looked a VERY good player in the short time he's had and I'm very impressed with what I've seen. Maybe because he's not Aquilani though, I wonder if you'll ever take to a Liverpool midfielder again?

Re: Liverpool Thread

lol i also dont know what did Meireles wrong on his DEBUT??? He looks great player..great vision, good pace, skill.. he makes himself avileable..good movement and a promiss for future..

That'll mean displacing 25 year old Glen Johnson. Either Johnson becomes a right winger or Kelly plays left back or he'll have to leave.

well obviously Kelly is next generation to Johnson...younger generation..but he has the ability to become the player i think he could..

even Carragher started as side back...i dont see a problem for Kelly to continue in his footsteps...

btw, Johnson is 26 ;)

Dont think Kelly will leave..

we have two young starters in Agger and Skrtel who are in their prime, we have two old ones in Carra and Kyrgiakos...by the time the first couple are old like them...Kelly and Wilson could be our future CB pair..who knows...might happend, or not..but Kelly proves every match that he will be big...

No, you didnt understand my message. I never said the had a bad debut or is a bad player. He is a very good player, but not a playmaker and right now the only one in the team that is a playmaker is Joe Cole (and still he hasnt played that role in the past 7 years). I think we are going to depend a lot in wether he can be the player he was at West Ham or not.
Im talking about the big picture here, not just today's match and it has nothing to do with Aquilani, he is not going to be a red player anymore so I dont understand why you brought that up. We have struggled in all this matches because we didnt have a player with judgment to move the ball foward, with the vision and creativity and the capability to involve others in the game. Meireles cant do that, if we dont have a Xabi type of player, Gerrard and Torres are gonna be extremely isolated..

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nobody said Meireles was a Xavi replacement. Thought I would clear that up before Supanova has a go. :D

Gerrard will drop deep next to him with Cole in the hole. For a more defensive team they can swap Cole for Poulsen.

can't be arsed with the same tired old argument tbh

We could have signed Xavi and Iniesta in the middle and Liverbird still wouldn't be happy because Aquilani's gone. :P

Anyway....

I thought it was ok, some awful moments and some really good ones. Lucas's goal was a beauty, N'Gog took his second really well and the penalty (as dubious as it was) was well taken as well. Glad to see Cole get one as well, hopefully it'll relieve the pressure on him and he can relax.

Can't quite understand the amount of praise for Spearing so far, he did ok but didn't pass it over the halfway line once and when he did try a forward pass he gave it away, when he does that he gets praised, Lucas gets slaughtered for it.

Meireles looks like a quality player but he needs time to get used to the pace and pressure of this league, when him, Cole and Maxi were on the ball we looked dangerous, pity Maxi didn't get much support from Kelly though because they could have linked up well, when Kelly did get forward it didn't quite work or he put a bad ball in.

All in all it was a pretty easy game, they had some good chances but we never really looked like losing after the penalty, hopefully Lucas will take some confidence from his goal because i'd imagine he'll start on Sunday.

No, there are a lot of players better than Aquilani in his role. Not Joe Cole though.
I agree about Spearing. I dont understand why a lot of Liverpool fans say he should play instead of Lucas. Lucas is a much better player.

Re: Liverpool Thread

How you guys feeling ahead of the weekend? Must say as a United fan I'm not really looking forward to it. Our first big test of the season and we've already dropped stupid points.

Tactically, I think it's quite easy for Liverpool - play a 451 with Torres alone up front, use 3 mids (presumably Poulsen, Lucas and Gerrard) to give Scholes no time on the ball, and then hoof it at Torres every chance you get. It won't work 95% of the time, but we all know he'll get clear once against Vidic and (presumably) an untested returning Rio.

I wouldn't be that surprised with another 4-1 esque result, I think the way Liverpool are set up at the moment you're just really geared towards beating United :(

(unless Roy plays Ngog as well, in which case he's mental, and United will likely win)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ngog is in some of the best form a striker can be in, scored 6 goals already this season and something silly like 8 or 9 in his last 10 games?

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's weird with the early season United-Liverpool game this time round.

Normally, we're in some good form, and you're in really bad form coming into them, and it usually conspires that the kick-start to your season is against us.

This time round we're both in pretty indifferent form and with Roy in charge instead of Rafa who knows what might happen?

I'm a little more confident that it's at Old Trafford first this year, but then I was confident you wouldn't beat us at home in 08/09 and look what happened there...

Re: Liverpool Thread

my tip for the lineup :)

----------- Reina -----------

Kelly -- Soto -- Agger -- Konchesky

------- Lucas -- Meireles ---

Cole ------ Gerrard ---- Jovanovic

------------ Torres ---------

we win 2:1

I think that no way Roy is sitting his boy Poulsen on the bench. I think that neither Meireles and Cole are starting, and we are going to play the same team we did against Birmingham.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I can't see Kelly starting ahead of Johnson, and I'll be very surprised if Cole doesn't start.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Does Roy actually know how to play any form of attacking football? This is abysmal. Again.

Did Sky say that if we lose, it's our worst start for 18 years?

Embarassing so far. Again.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I have no idea what Konchesky was doing on the line for the corner, I really dont.

If things dont improve second half, I sense things going from bad to worse...
