Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh well, shame to lose against them but other then that it's the "best" loss we could have imo. Was expecting the Villa tie to go to a replay aswell so atleast its a few games less against very tough opponents.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Blessing in disguise for you lot I think. Not sure you have enough strikers to go for everything and the FA cup is the least important.

Agreed. The Premier League and CL are more important trophies.

Gerrard's injury sounds a bit dodgy though, and I'm sure Torres got a pretty hefty knock last night as well.

nah blessing for us and other title challengers...

lfc already played extra FA cup game than the rest of us..

and lost players thru injury and suspension in process...

but if torres is injured at least he's got robbie...

wait scratch that he's sold him...

at least babel kuyt and the other no name can sustain lfc's "title bid" (lol)

please sign your new deal rafa!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah, You'd think there was a meaningless England frindly soon or something. :))

 I thought that this morning as well!

But then Capello gets the injured players down to do his own assessment anyway so I don't think players can fake injuries anymore.

Re: Liverpool Thread

If he gets seriously injured because Rafa has been too stubborn to leave him on, I'll be seriously be pissed off.

Rafa's too stubborn for his own good, that's why he persists with Kuyt, who is clearly just not good enough. Either that or Dirk has photos of Rafa having fun in a brothel in Amsterdam and is using that to never leave the starting lineup.

Re: Liverpool Thread

stuff losing, Gerrard was the bigger blow. There was a bigger roar when he went off then after the goal.

Let the BS have their season defining highlight. We all need something to smile about.

Dont get me started on ITV

Our squad aint big/strong enough for two competitions atm let alone three.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not that bad. We still have Yossi who's very underrated IMO. Can't replace Gerrard, but he's got a chance to prove himself.

And how impressive was Babel up front?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well it worked.

Rafas fault Babel missed a sitter, nugent offside, Reina mistake, kuyt goal disallowed?

TOP OF THE LEAGUE

(for now, i know yous lot have two games in hand, might aswell enjoy it while it lasts)

Great win tonight. Definitely still in with a shout, thought you were going to drop points again after a big win but came through in the end. Should be interseting Sunday now as United always struggle against West Ham (inexplicably)...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Was impressed with Aurelio tonight - went close with the free kick (hit upright) and put away the free kick very well. Benayoun thrived on the responsibility too. Ryan Bauble (I typed that on purpose) needs to learn to look when passing and oh, how to trap a ball. Oh, and not miss open goals. Great game but no good for me old ticker lol.:D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well done lads, thankfully you've got Torres to counter Rafa's rapidly deteriorating mental state.

And Dirk Kuyt!

Thought we were unlucky to be honest. Nugent was offside, Dirk wasn't, and Babel's blind.

Who cares now.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ridiculous set up from Benitez, 6 defenders and 4 reserve attackers?! Lets not forget we won thanks to two errors/gifts from Portsmouth. We didnt create that many more chances then portsmouth to be clear/deserved winners in the match.

And Babel?!?!? What the f$%k were you thinking?! He should be sold for that alone! Being ready for the pass, seeig it come to you at speed, and then still try to hit it with the inside of your RIGHT f$%king foot! Its either left inside or right outside!!

Can't remember being so p!$$ed off after winning a match.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Babel has fucking lost it, he looked dangerous everytime he came on last season, this season he's been utterly awful.

Benayoun needs to learn to shoot rather than constantly trying to walk the ball into the goal every time he gets it, so frustrating because he's got the ability to do it but he fucks up so many times and a lot of our attacks ended with him running into a defender when he could easily have passed it or shot.

Kuyt's first should have stood he was onside.

Nugent was clearly onside for his goal and he took it well, but he's an idiot for doing that "1-0" gesture. DON'T YOU PLAY FOR PORTSMOUTH YOU FUCKING IDIOT?!

Reina fucked up and the defence were poor for the second Pompey goal, shite.

TitTitTitTitTit you must have watched a different game to me if you think we didn't deserve to win, we had most of the ball and most of the chances even with a dodgy starting line up, plus, who were the 4 reserve attackers? Babel and N'Gog were the only attackers on there, Benayoun's a midfielder and i can only assume you've never seen Mascherano play if you think he's an attacker.

the formation was 3 defenders with Dossena and Arbeloa at wing-back and Aurelio was in the midfield, Dossena and Aurelio played well i thought and Agger was quality.

The only problems we had was when it went to Babel or N'Gog, they were fucking shite.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Babel's got no confidence cos of how Rafa makes him play. He's bound to make mistakes. He was desperate to go back to Ajax in the transfer window.

no he wasn't at all.

his agent asked the board if it would be in his and liverpool's best interests if he was to go out on loan because he had no guarantee of how many games he'd play, but rafa said he was in his plans and the move was mooted. Babel said once in an interview "i didn't want to leave Liverpool, i just suggested a loan move back to Ajax because i know everyone there and i could get fit and play more games, but the manager told me i was in his plans."

It's not Rafa's fault that whenever Babel has played this year he hasn't looked interested, he looks slow and lazy as if he's overweight.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good comeback today but I think back to the days when Mourinho's Chelsea or Wenger's Invincibles were our main rivals and we would be quite concerned about them. I don't feel that same worry with this Liverpool side, whether its because of the strength of the squad or Rafa's general incompetence.

Fair enough, that's what I heard though and from the way I see it, he's playing like a man who feels like he's not wanted. Last season he was really effective coming off the bench and was starting to command a starting place, which he hasn't gotten this season. Last season he would've accepted it as it was his first season but now he'll be thinking why don't I get games? How long do I have to be an impact sub? We all know how brittle a young footballer's confidence can be and I think he probably feels unwanted by Rafa and it's effecting him quite badly.

Just found these quotes from his agent
According to his agent, Winnie Haatrecht, the 21-year-old wanted to make a temporary return to Holland in January but Liverpool dismissed the possibility out of hand.

"Ryan finds that he sits on the bench too much at Liverpool, he wants to play more and asked me to see if Ajax were interested in a temporary return," Haatrecht said.

"After we got an enthusiastic reaction from Ajax, we asked Liverpool for their co-operation but the club don't want to see him go.

Young players need game time and Babel's no different. The number of times I see Liverpool fans slag him off for being shit when last season he was 'amazing' makes me laugh.

Cause they struggle to win 2 league games in a row. With the teams you mentionend I wouldnt bother checking most their results but with Liverpool you know they can drop points to anyone. Also apart from Torres and Gerrard they have not enough strength in depth especially with Torres not having the best of seasons. Are 2nd string would have beat that side easily today IMO

didn't realise we were in competition with Derby County..
