Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

At least we didnt lose today, that is the only positive thing I can say about todays game

Re: Liverpool Thread

his kicking isnt great?!?!

did you not see him LAUNCH the ball to near the opponents box severeal times today, he has one hell of a kick

Re: Liverpool Thread

Wey-hey! We scored! Twice! Still, shocking that we score, then they score twice - a side that hasn't been having things going well recently either......

Re: Liverpool Thread

Bah Reina should reflect his gamein the bench while Dudek should be tried again. He's got us the Champions Leagues Trophy ..

And boy, when Cisse in a good mood, that guy can CROSS ! Bad thing Crouch decided he wanted his first goal at anfield then anywhere else ..

Re: Liverpool Thread

I guess we're like Wolves of last season in the "championship", draw specialists.

Another good linkng up display from crouch if only he was an inch taller for cisse's cross eh...?

Reina i'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, still got to brush up on his communication & understanding of the EPL.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It was an average game yesterday but look at the positives we haven't lost yet and the defence still looks solid:

Last season
MID 2-0 LIV
TOT 1-1 LIV
LIV 0-1 MANU
BIR 2-0 LIV

1 Point

This season
MID 0-0 LIV
TOT 0-0 LIV
LIV 0-0 MANU
BIR 2-2 LIV

4 Points

It's still early days but it’s an improvement over last season and I take back all the insults thrown at Crouch, I can finally see what we bought him for.

He's tall, he's red, his feet stick out the bed Peter Crouch, Peter Crouch

I think people will take me more seriously when I say "The Future is Crouch!!!"
The Crouch era has begun!

Re: Liverpool Thread

He is perfect for Rafa's tactics of 4-5-1, just need the others to adjust to his style of play. I wonder how much devastating if we play an attacking 4-3-3 with Gerrard and Cisse at the left and right attackers. Knock down to the left .. gerrard to shot from long range ! Or Knock down to the right .. Cisse to shot it from long range ! Or maybe Riise?

Btw, is Gerrard two-footed? I thought he was right footed until he shot that shot yesterday that hit the crossbar with his lefty.

I wouldn't say he was both footed ala Alonso who is, but Gerrard is a player that is strong in all areas.

Maybe we could try a variation of 3-5-2, I remember we tried it out a few times last season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

inter_211 - That's a really good spot....tbh, I think we've been lacking in this erm, ahem, "tactical" department. There are a lot more cynical teams out there. This was just a subtle variation on a theme.:D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Come on lads! We're the last team to beat Chelski and we can do it again. Even in the two league games they beat us last season it was a single goal by Cole.

Although i do have a couple of concerns: In the first leg of the Champs League, Joe Cole absoultely devoured Traore on the right side of the field, though they didnt score. (in the second leg, Moronio put Cole on the left  ).

My other concern is that Duff did not play against us in those two Champs league games and Robben was hobbled so he played sparingly.

with Frank having an average season, i think if we can contain the wings, and force Essien and Frank to dictate the game, we can win this.

Oh. . and please start Cisse, Rafa. Let him exploit Del Horno's gimp leg.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I want to see Crouch and Cisse as a pair up front. More to the point though, I don't have sky, and I'd like to see it on terrestrial tv instead of the nonsense that was on last night. I object going to a pub to watch it as well. Or am I just being a stingy get?:lmao:

Tonights game has got 0-0 written all over it, I just hope someones scores early!

Let's hope it a real goal too :mryellow: But seriously, i don't think this game has much riding on it. It doesn't seem to matter these days whether you come first or second in the group. You could still face stiff opposition. The premiership game is more important imo.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'll only get this on the radio unless someone knows of a torrent......wonders never cease however, Cisse and Crouch.......come on!!!!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well a 0-0 draw aint too bad, we had a few chances but nothing that really stood out. Chelsea didnt really do much, we kept them contained for the full 90.

We shall see how we fare on Sunday now

Re: Liverpool Thread

First-half was pretty shit, second half Liverpool dominated but like previous games didn't look like scoring should have had a penalty though, I definitely think we can beat chav$ki on Sunday

Dont be saying that out loud mate. Can I counteract it by saying I think it will be a tough game with very few chances and we will rob em late on ;)

Yeah' you can counteract it, I completely agree with you I cant see more than one goal being scored if that

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm still waiting for the explosion of goals from our boys.....surely they've gotta start bangin' them in soon?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Djimi Traore....

I keep trying to convince myself that the guy has something to offer. His physique and speed are major plus points & Rafa has his utmost trust in him.

....But I'm increasingly losing hope. His performance today, although not disastrous, has left much to be questioned & you get the feeling that its only a matter of time a major goof up will lose us a game.

Anyway, although it was an extremely tedious game, I'm enjoying our dominance. Although we are not scoring, its a good foundation to work on & as crayon says, we just have to wait for that explosion(!). TBH, I can only see us (and maybe a brave bottom half table team) capable of getting a result against Chelsea this season. I just hope Mourinho don't exploit our left side of defence come sunday :eh:

I'm glad to hear a lot of people (rightly) being proved wrong about Crouch btw :D - the lad is doing Rafa proud

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Traore is played because of how Chelsea played. They like to switch from left wing to right wing, there's where his height and athletic body plays a big role. Well it doesn't have to be Traore, no matter who Duff / Robben runs at, they'll have their way most of the time. I was so scared when Robben was taking on Hyypia 1-1 yesterday lol.

Alonso played well defensively late-on. I never thought him to be that good. Cisse did well also, chasing down Robben all the time. Didn't complain too much, even being abit modest. I wonder if him in the starting lineup helped him abit.

Saturday will not be an easy game. I wish for an early goal from either side. This kind of battle needs one to be dramatic, and don't we all love "dramas" :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

I have to admit I was impressed with Djimi and Crouch's performance but man of the match has to go to the 'Kaiser' Hamman

Re: Liverpool Thread

Right on RockyKabir - Crouch is showing everyone that he is more than a talentless ogre. He's a skilled player with a better footballing brain that many wanted to give him credit for. I actually thought that it may be better to play him BEHIND Cisse, since he actually knows what to do with the ball at his feet, and he could serve thru balls to Cisse. lol.

Traore continues to impress at one minute and then confound for the next three minutes. HE LOST AN AERIAL BATTLE TO SWP FOR CRYIN" OUT LOUD!! Did anyone notice that? I had to rewind the DVR like 5 times. The funny thing is that Traore had the best position the whole time, and still, SWP took the header. Outrageou. Plus, Traore collapeses to the middle too much, rather than holding his lane. And he gets too far forward and gets caught out of position.

But he is improving. Even i'll admit that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh, lastly, i i think we oupltayed Chelsea and we should have had 2 penalties. that's not even debatable, IMO. Both were clear fouls in the box.

Garcia continues to frustrate me with his unnecessary circus tricks and one touch fliks to the opposition. HE is better when he tries to maintain possession and touches. Alonso played immensely on defense. Laughed my ass off when he pickpocketed the prancing elf of SWP on the wing. Pure comedy.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Garcia really frustrates me as well, he seems to be the player to always break down our attacks by losing the ball cheaply. I'm not a big fan, and feel he should only be brought on from the bench.
