Don't pretend to be surprised. This happens all the time. When a game that's as feverishly anticipated as LittleBigPlanet is, gamers will be hunting down the retail location that doesn't pay its employees enough to care about things like "street dates." "Do not stock until 'not my problem'," is the philosophy at at least one Best Buy location, the one at which reader Chris snagged his early copy (and he's not the only one). Hopefully, though, he's taking advantage of his early access to the game by creating some awesome penis-themed levels. Good get, Chris.

If the game is in the stores why have a bleeding release date a week or 2 later?

If they can get the stock out then they should just sell it instead of stockpiling it all and then pressing a big red button that says 'GO'

I agree. Shops should be able to sell as soon as they get stock, never seen the point of release dates. Just the big-wigs wanting to count how many "first week sales" they get

The release of Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation 3 title LittleBigPlanet has been delayed in Europe, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

The game was due for release next week, 24th October, but now some retailers are estimating the game may be delayed by three weeks until 14th November.

However, GamesIndustry.biz understands that the title may not suffer such a long delay to retail, and a new date is expected to be announced by Sony shortly.

LittleBigPlanet has reviewed incredibly well in the specialist press and anticipation is high from consumers who have already had access to the beta of the game.

Sony has said that the game is a system seller for the PlayStation 3, and the title is considered one of the most important releases for the home console this Christmas.

More details to follow.

Right, I'm going to import the game then, Sony can be right tosspots with their constant delays :CURSE:

Well this is what I get for being rash. I ordered LBP from VideoGamesPlus with all the rumours that LBP was only delayed in Europe. It's now a worldwide delay, so I emailed VGP to cancel my order and refund my payment, but they still haven't replied :((

Hopefully they'll reply sometime this evening and I'll use the money to go and buy Saints Row 2 instead but I can't see them replying now until Monday :((

Well, it's early afternoon over there, they should reply...

I think EST is 5 hours behind us here, so it's 3:30pm there I think now? Meaning I only have 30 mins for them to reply :((

Im Muslim and I welcome this move by Sony. It highlights the fact that they are willing to sacrafice a delay of one of their biggest titles of the year in order to respect the view of Muslims worldwide. While I personally think the song was fine and was not really wrong, I can understand that some people may have been offended.

As for what was in the song:

كل نفس ذائقة الموت - 'Kulloo nafsaen tha'iqatol maut' - 'Every soul that has ego shall have the taste of death'
'كل من عليها فان' - 'Kulloo man alaiha fan' - 'All that is on Earth will perish'

I feel for those who wanted the game on Friday. I hope you can wait one more week. Thanks. :)

BillyBoy, I read somewhere, maybe in the original post that complained to Sony about the content of that song, that quoting the Coran itself wasn't the issue, but the fact that it's a song with such quotes. Is this true?

And if so, is this because Muslims consider a song to be too "playful" in contrast to the seriousness of the Coran?

Although I was anticipating the release of the game, I have to accept this, but mainly because "Every soul that has ego shall have the taste of death" and "All that is on Earth will perish" doesn't really sound good in a game that's targeted at a young audience, not so much because of the religious side of things.

BillyBoy, can you tell me how that might offend people? From what I've read, it's a known song which is available to buy on iTunes and Amazon anyway, so any ideas why it being in LBP would cause offense?

Very curious.

The quotes themselves are not the problem. Its the fact that they are from a holy scripture (either the Quran and the Hadith). Since the lyrics are in in Arabic most children would not understand the song. The quotes I believe are not controversial in anyway. They are stating a simple fact that all life on Earth will end and that everyone must taste death.

Specific otherdox branches of Islam (known as Wahabbis and Salafis) find music sinful especially with quotes from religious texts. Im a Sufi Muslim and hymns, religious songs, etc are part of my life. The song itself was written by a Mali Muslim so im unsure as to why it has been unaffected by iTunes and Amazon. :)

so whats the problem?

should be ok right? ban the song from every store then, not just in a game.

personaly im shocked that such thing is offensive by just reading a text from a holy scripure but i respect other peoples religons and opinions so if its a no no to muslims then surely the makers of LBP should have know better right?

Weel, it wasn't any Muslim organization or anything that protested, merely a Muslim guy that suggested in the official Playstation forum that Sony should patch the game to prevent the song from playing. Media Molecule made a patch in no time but it was Sony who decided to not take any "risks" with their new system seller and delay the lauch altogether.

Your point is 100% right and I thank you all for respecting everyones opinion on the matter. Its a shame not everyone is so understanding. :)

For those wanting to listen to the track in question its avaliable here:

Its the third one on the playlist- Tapha Niang.
The controversial lines can be heard from 2.01 to 2.19. The song itself has no negative views on Islam (since the songwriter is Muslim himself). Its actually quite an uplifting song and the use of scriptures bring up a subject of poignant interest. Thats my opinion on the matter anyway.

So it's basically because it mixed the lines with music, which they took offense to.

The annoying thing is MM have a patch ready already and could just fix it straight away, with Sony correcting further copies that are produced, and that was what the person who wrote the letter wanted. I don't see why Sony would want to recall LOADS of copies just to trash them rather than just patch the game.

Also, why wouldn't they send a letter to the record company to ask them not to put that song on any albums again? Because the LBP song was from an album anyway, which was already mixing music with lines from the Qu'ran so why the fuss over LBP and not the song itself?
