has the beta ended?
The release of Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation 3 title LittleBigPlanet has been delayed in Europe, GamesIndustry.biz reports.
The game was due for release next week, 24th October, but now some retailers are estimating the game may be delayed by three weeks until 14th November.
However, GamesIndustry.biz understands that the title may not suffer such a long delay to retail, and a new date is expected to be announced by Sony shortly.
LittleBigPlanet has reviewed incredibly well in the specialist press and anticipation is high from consumers who have already had access to the beta of the game.
Sony has said that the game is a system seller for the PlayStation 3, and the title is considered one of the most important releases for the home console this Christmas.
More details to follow.
"Gamereactor has posted a story which suggested that the reason for the delay is due to Sony having to remove a song from the soundtrack. The offending song is said to be offensive to a certain religion. The story also goes on to say this will result in a three week delay to the family friendly game in Europe. "
Well this is what I get for being rash. I ordered LBP from VideoGamesPlus with all the rumours that LBP was only delayed in Europe. It's now a worldwide delay, so I emailed VGP to cancel my order and refund my payment, but they still haven't replied
Hopefully they'll reply sometime this evening and I'll use the money to go and buy Saints Row 2 instead but I can't see them replying now until Monday
I feel for those who wanted the game on Friday. I hope you can wait one more week. Thanks.
BillyBoy, I read somewhere, maybe in the original post that complained to Sony about the content of that song, that quoting the Coran itself wasn't the issue, but the fact that it's a song with such quotes. Is this true?
And if so, is this because Muslims consider a song to be too "playful" in contrast to the seriousness of the Coran?
Although I was anticipating the release of the game, I have to accept this, but mainly because "Every soul that has ego shall have the taste of death" and "All that is on Earth will perish" doesn't really sound good in a game that's targeted at a young audience, not so much because of the religious side of things.
BillyBoy, can you tell me how that might offend people? From what I've read, it's a known song which is available to buy on iTunes and Amazon anyway, so any ideas why it being in LBP would cause offense?
Very curious.
so whats the problem? The quotes themselves are not the problem. Its the fact that they are from a holy scripture (either the Quran and the Hadith). Since the lyrics are in in Arabic most children would not understand the song. The quotes I believe are not controversial in anyway. They are stating a simple fact that all life on Earth will end and that everyone must taste death.
so whats the problem?
should be ok right? ban the song from every store then, not just in a game.
personaly im shocked that such thing is offensive by just reading a text from a holy scripure but i respect other peoples religons and opinions so if its a no no to muslims then surely the makers of LBP should have know better right?
