Thanks steamboy and sfc_tsubasa

Looking at this post made 3 years ago it seems almost everything came true.

I think i'm going to buy a PS3 just to play this game!!!!!!!

Looks like this could be the best game of all time!

If they put the new Red Bull car in fuck PES and FIFA, i'll just play that until i die. :)

GT5 news galore

Polyphony Digital have conveniently published their own independent and specific confirmation of the features we’ve been learning about via media outlets over the past two days, thanks to one big update to their official site. In addition to what was already discussed here and here, this is what’s new:

* As confirmed in a footnote on the Japanese site, the 800 “standard cars” in the game will not have interior view or high-beam headlights (new video standard cars here, thanks Paskowitz).
* NASCAR pit crew’s actions have been specifically re-created.
* All cars will be able to “roll over” if involved in an accident.
* Damage may “not necessarily be applied to all races in the game”.
* You will be able to define your own password-protected online races with your friends, and you’ll be able to control all of the event’s regulations.
* “You can host ‘Track Days’, where everyone can drive freely on the track. You can try to shave down your laptimes, you can teach someone how to drive, or just enjoy drifting.”

Vehicular damage was also clarified:

Physics-Affecting Damage
This is damage in which the physics simulation is affected by alignment deviations, etc. This is damage that affects controllability, and the car may not drive straight, or it might become unstable in corners, etc. depending on the amount of damage. Affects all cars.

Dirt, Scratches, and Dents
This is damage that can be visually seen, and involves dirtying of the body, scratches and dents. Affects all cars.

Separation (dislocation) of Body Panels
This is damage in which body panels are dislocated from their original positions, or deform. Affects
only premium cars.

At a closed door meeting during this year’s E3 conference, Gran Turismo franchise creator and Polyphony Digital founder Kazunori Yamauchi gave a few more details pertaining to his latest installment.

Though the game we recently sampled was a close-to-production version, it’s still not finished, the car-crazy executive said. Startup times are promised to be shortened from their current few second leads. Even some fine tuning of graphics engines is expected ahead of the game’s November 2, 2010 release date.

As you probably know by now, Yamauchi-san and his teams are some of the world’s most meticulous people. Just look at GT5’s details and you’ll understand. There’s so much detail, in fact, that the game’s BluRay is almost completely filled with data. Exactly how much is left wasn’t revealed.

Among the exposed details are:

-- Two types of cars: Premium and Standard --
- Over 800 Standard cars; mostly gathered from the franchise’s previous four editions.
- Over 200 Premium cars
- Total cars available: 1000-plus (final amount has yet to be determined)

-- Premium cars get --
- Full interior recreation
- Physics damage
- Scratches, dents, dirt accumulation
- Deformation and separation of body panels

-- Standard cars get --
- Physics damage
- Scratches, dents, dirt accumulation

- Premium cars’ interiors are created with the minutest of details
- Harnesses, buttons, carbon fiber weave, wiring all virtually made
- Undersides are detailed as a result of vehicle overturning
- Textures have been especially focused on during rendering

-- NASCAR --
- 9 cars revealed at E3 demo
- More are currently under development ahead of release
- Ability to race NASCAR racers on numerous world circuits (i.e., Nurburgring, Le Mans, etc.)

-- New Tracks Revealed in E3 Demo --
- Urban Madrid
- Tuscany, Italy
- Top Gear
- Le Mans (2009)
- 24 Hrs of Nurburgring
- Madrid and Tuscany took 2 years to complete
- All graffiti on Nurburgring was recreated exactly
- Sony of Europe did delete any profanity
“While racing the 24 hours of Nurburgring, you can smell people’s barbecues -- we couldn’t recreate that.” -- Kazunori Yamauchi

-- Photo Mode --
- 2 Modes: Race Photo and Photo Travel

- Race -
- Take photos of cars racing

-- Photo Travel --
- Situate vehicles at prescribed locations
- E3 demo includes: Kyoto, Japan; Italian countryside; Red Bull Hangar 7
- Full replication of real world wind, weather, and sounds
- Allows for Full Manual and AUTO mode usage, just as with professional DSLR cameras
- White Balance, focal length, shutter speed, F stop, etc.

-- Online --

- Community connectivity allowed
- Each user gets a “My Lounge” to connect with fellow racers
- Once in lounge, users can chat, watch racing, race each other
- Lounge can be password protected for certain friends
- Every user gets a viewable profile that shows game progress, status, and ability

-- 3D/ Face Tracking --
- Two technologies combined for first time in video game
- Gives full perspective of vehicle interior for an immersed experience

-- Visual Effects --
- Night, day, shadows, sunset, sunrise all simulated
- low/high beams
- lights will illuminate dust, fog, smoke
- Collision sparks
- Kicking up debris
- Horn

Yamauchi-san also mentioned:

-- Users will be able to race a full 24 Hours of Le Mans or Nurburgring.

-- Full NASCAR races available

-- There will be an available virtual driving school for GT beginners

-- In addition to Ferrari, more Formula 1 teams are expected

-- GT5 will be produced in 12 languages

Disappointing news about the lack of cockpit view on the majority of the cars, its the only view I used in Prologue.

Meh who cares, 200 fully modeled cars are WAY more than enough anyway (you know full well that at least 100 out of the 800 standard cars are gonna be Skylines anyway lol)

Also, holy shit @ chassis deformations and flips, I thought they would've never implemented such features in a GT game...with damage, night/day cycle (which most likely means that LONG races will be implemented in the game), head-tracking and private lobbies this game's gonna be so much fun...time to build myself a driving seat with support for wheel/HDTV!

The only poor point is the nascar crash. someone smashes into his side and the car hardly gets damaged. Not a huge deal but you know... it just kinda looks off if you get me.

the "800 cars are inferior" thing just does not go along with the "we are the uber-perfectionists-from-polyphony"....:(

Not too bothered about the damage, i think liscencing as a lot to do with the damage effects aswell. Certain companies don't want their cars to look too smashed up in a game. Sounds pathetic but it's something that compaines do these days.

Look at it from this way, if one manufacturer has made specific technological advancemnts in saftey which means their car will be very durable and resistant to certian crashes. Yet they find on this game it's resistance is poor. Even though it's just a game and it's virtual reality they would feel it simply dosen't give good press.

It would have been massive if they had got the F1 license, maybe next time.

Yes, just the 15 million pound fee to get it :CONFUSE:

Thats why just codemasters are the only company making an F1 game

so how did forza managed damage on all cars?

so how did forza managed damage on all cars?

Possible because the damage isn't really that major, it's just generic scratches from what i've played. I play on my lill brothers forza game sometimes and i notice the damage isn't really that realistic. He even said himself the damage isn't major.

From what i've seen Gran Turismo's damage is again very light but i really don't care too much about damage especially with standard cars. I care a bit more about damage when it comes to F1 cars because they are so fragile and have vital parts exposed.

You can lose bumpers and body panels in Forza, and blow up the engine, wreck the gearbox. I'm not saying damage is comprehensive or particularly realistic in Forza, but all cars can be trashed.

I don't think it's a licensing issue at all with GT. I think the whole project is so massive that they just can't do everything, such as interior views on "only" 200 cars.

What can we look forward to when Gran Turismo 5 releases on PlayStation 3?

Gran Turismo 5 will offer gamers an experience more rich, more in-depth and more exciting than they might expect - even from a series as closely identified with innovation and invention as Gran Turismo. Not only will Gran Turismo 5 deliver an even more comprehensive set of cars and courses than gamers saw with previous iterations, it will also feature new game-enhacing graphical effects such as damage, night racing and weather.

These innovations are twinned with the option to join millions of like-minded individuals globally within the Gran Turismo community and to find a driving experience to suit, whether that is taking on the Top Gear test track, chucking cars around stunt arenas, go-karting, creating and sharing your own track or intense head-to-head races. Who, where and what to drive is completely down to the individual.
This time around Gran Turismo is likely not just to be the definitive driving experience but a definitive gaming experience full stop.

Go Karting has never been mentioned before has it?

I'm starting to wonder about this track editor'. something that special should have had a huge reveal by now. could it just be something thats part of the top gear stage so you can create time trial tracks using that map - rather than something like modnation where you create a full level ... and maybe even re create real life tracks.

It was revealed a year ago along with weather, day/night cycles and damage. Wont it be cool if the track editor was as powerful as mod nation racing?

check this out as well:

When you say reveal - do you mean it was mentioned ages ago - or that they actually 'revealed' the mode and showed us what it's like?

someone mentioned it a year ago. The only news thats new is the go karts. even the 200 premium cars was mentioned a year ago specificaly saying how only race cars have full damage and interiors

Right but I'm talking about an actual reveal.. screenshots, videos... footage of how it works to generate some hype. To anyone not familiar with GT5's latest news, they have no idea this is going to be in the game.

That's why I've been wondering if it's a big feature that will let you create the actual track layout piece by piece like scalextric or just some kind of time trail create your own track on the top gear set - or like on Project Gotham 1 (i think) they had a city and you could plot out a race around the city level and then race the route. you had no control on the surrounding.. just the route.

In that case no

Interesting! It's one of the features I am looking forward too and have my camera ready, but that video should be renamed "gt5 with 2seconds of head tracking."

Gran Turismo 5 has realistic damage and effects system, Full detailed breakdown

Gran Turismo 5 is pushing the envelope forward for racing titles, but they are going even further with the damage system. Not happy with just physical damage, Gran Turismo 5's cars will have to deal with damage in three different realistic fashions and these changes will greatly alter the way you go about racing in the gaming. However, only certain car models will get the full effects of a crash and the repercussions.

Detailed on the official Gran Turismo site:

Physics is damage. Damage to affect the physical simulation and alignment deviation. The damage may affect the operation, which stopped running straight, and is not stable in the corner to express a variety of symptoms depending on the amount of damage. On all models.

Scratch dent in the dirt and visually recognizable damage or scratches and dirt adhere to the body, then get depressed sometimes. On all models.

Deformation displacement of the panel body get depressed sometimes, but shifted to form a body panel, and other damage that warped. Only affect the premium car.

Basically, any damage done to the alignment of a vehicle will force the car to handle poorly and you'll have to battle the vehicle to stay on a straight path. Dents and scratches can become more severe over time and could lead to other vehicular problems, while only premium cars will have full blown damage effects like dented frames and visible body damage.

A lot of going into this game and it looks like it'll deliver one hell of a ride.
