Gran Turismo 5

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

chaps if anyone can help! I downloaded the game from psn..now i cant start the game without being signed in to the ps network! does this mean i cant play the game offline? any one else had this?

also, is the top gear track actually in the game? if so where?!

thanks for any help fella's.

You can play the single player offline, but perhaps its to do with piracy issues - meaning you have to be signed in on the account that brought the game to play it?

The Top Gear track isnt in the game yet (nor are the episodes) - is expected to be added in the coming months...

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Started to find this game less and less fun the more obvious it dawns that the devs don't give a shit about pad players and are making this game work perfect on a wheel and the pad is an after thought.

Some corners are fine with a pad - though a struggle with drift challenges --- but on most corners you can easily tell that if you used a wheel you could keep the angle of your turn set and glide around - but on the pad its hit/miss

I hate to say it but im leaning towards Docs hatred for this game with each passing day - It seems that you just can't make a simulation fun!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I notice that on some corners, you press the pad so far left the pad is close to snapping - and yet on the screen, the fella with his hands on the wheel is just tilting the wheel casually like he's browsing the car-park at Tesco's for a space.

I'm with you Radiation, it's getting more frustrating the more I play it. But I will keep hold of it, A) because with the "learning lines" on (which I hate) it improves slightly, and B) I'm hoping they will eventually release some kind of patch to fix it.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Radiation its not really so much a hatred its more a disappointment and "False Advertising" that does me in. It calls itself the REAL Driving Simulator and it doesnt play like 1 IMO. Ok now ive hammered this game and im at Class A. There were events in Classes C & B that were simply impossible! I was going as fast as I could but could only achieve a Silver Trophy OR WORSE still with that stupid Cappucino Event...

So anyway there was me thinking the game would get better right? Ok so now with my Nissan GTR 07 the car handles a little bit differently. Its still stiff and rigid and unresponsive at the best of times but NOW its squirmy under braking and is easy to kick in to a slide.... but NOT a controlled slide! the lightest tap of Correction whilst in a slide causes the car to SUDDENLY and UNREALISTICALLY snap out of control! Now I know my MG in real life isnt quite the same thing but on our local test track I can comfortably get that thing to slide in a controlled manner at over 70 Miles an hour, slight correction movements DONT suddenly cause the thing to snap out of my control, if it did Id be dead round about now!

Then we have the AI.... what the fuckin hell were Polyphony drinking and smoking when they made this AI Model? They battle with each other (great!) they make mistakes and go off the track (Even fucking greater! except they dont get affected or slowed down as much as you do when you go off!) BUT when im driving a GTR 07 vs a GTR 07 I dont expect to EASILY overtake it at 190 Miles an Hour when the other car is EXACTLY the same as me.... yet I can easily do it why is that?

To me this game still has the same issues I had with GT HD. You have only got to do that challenege with the Lancer Evo on Eiger Nordwand and you will see NOTHING has changed! its still the same unresponsive shit from GT4 and HD. How the fuck am I meant to do a 1:14 lap time on that course with that car ill never know!!

Anywayz rant over, if this is the curtain raiser for GT5 I think once again ill avoid it. Nice Try PD.

Easy for me to say being a wheel owner now, but you are probably right in one respect and wrong in another!

The wheel is 100 times more accurate - last night I put an absolutely cracking lap in of London and when I watched the replay back, my driving was so smooth and controlled for the most part and I thought to myself, "I could never drive like this with a pad" as you normally see some jerking from side to side as you line up the racing line etc.

Think your last point sums it up - how many people drive real cars with a dualshock?! So people scream for accurate simulations, then complain as they cannot control the cars using a pad (and I at least assume you are using the analogue sticks and not d-pad?!).

This game IS superb in nearly every respect and the final game will be immense (hopefully), but I think non-wheel owners need to either accept the game wont be as good with a pad and try to adjust accordingly (or stick to Burnout), or get a wheel!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I've got as far as unlocking the tuning mode and ive done a few S class challenges but im at a brick wall now myself

It's dawning on me the only way to beat the harder ones is to switch to manual gears and buy a wheel

both i dont want - but it feels like the devs/game are forcing me to to be able to compete on a level playing field

Most people will play the game with a pad though Paul, I dont have the same control issues with Forza 2 with the 360 Pad because Turn 10 have ACCOMODATED for that. PD havent!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Normally agree with you DJ, but you gotta quit moaning about it being advertised as the "real driving simulator" if you are using the pad!

What do you want?

If you can explain how to accurately simulate vehicle physics using a d-pad or stick then fair enough, but unless you play with a wheel, you gotta stop worrying about it!

Using the wheel it is as close to driving as the real thing, so in my mind, its the 'real driving simulator'. If it had the worlds best physics engine designed by NASA, Ferrari, BMW and Stephen Hawkin and then tested to death by Michael Schumacher, if you are playing on a pad then its not going to matter is it?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Paul for years and years Racing Games have worked out just fine using a pad... why cant PD work this into GT5? its crazy! even GT2 was 10 times more playable than this with a Pad! in fact I may even go back to GT2... that did feel realistic and responsive compared to this!

Even so, you wouldnt call Forza an 'accurate driving simulator' when using the pad would you? You cannot - you get no feedback (aside a few rumbles).

I'm not arguing the virtues of the better game as at the moment (though I found it boring), Forza 2 is the complete package and probably for most people, more 'fun'.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I know what your saying mate but to me Forza does a better job at giving me something that FEELS like a real simulator without having to go out and buy an expensive accessory... Of course I did for Forza 2 and now its fuckin amazing but thats a different story. What im saying is in the past decent driving games have worked out just fine with a pad and im some cases have been shocking with a steering wheel....

Ah yea, definately - Grand Prix 3 is an excellent attempt at F1 simulation (with assists off) and probably further back than that.

As I say, the point you keep bringing up is the false advertising of this game by PD, which in my eyes, you cannot level until you try to play the game as a simulator.

If you use the pad, then accept the game as a 'game that simulates driving as closely as it can when using a joypad'.

(which is probably the tag-line PD should have used, but doesnt sound as catchy does it? :D)

I didnt find that when I used the pad - please tell me you are using the analogue sticks though? If you are trying to drive with the d-pad then.... eugh, thats just wrong!

Also, sounds like understeer anyway, so trying braking earlier and smoother (using the analogues).

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

haha :) the fact is mate it doesnt even try to match real driving with a pad... it feels shockingly unresponsive

Thats weird... maybe you are too used to Forza? I never really had a problem with the pad when playing the Jap demo for a few months. Not tried that much with the PAL release as I had the wheel in time.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

If the game truly was for the wheel then it should only have been sold as a bundle

You can play Guitar Hero with a pad but it's designed for the guitar

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

For me Forza was poor with pad aswell GT5 im finding much easier but then again i have always been with Gran Turismo and Xbox 360 was my first Xbox console.

Cars for me way to stiff on Forza 2 not to mention hideous brakes

Not all cars snap some cars snap because there lift off oversteer you adjust in the tuning menu and it completely gone.

I would say though game far from perfect and AI is very annoying which i have said countless times here. I think some of the times set have been done with a wheel in mind but then again i see people on other forums completed it with pad so maybe it is something happening here.

For me this game far from unresponsive but each to there own.

Edit: Biggest problem with the time trials and other events is you cant change your tyres and this makes big difference to how car reacts.

It could of done with tuning being open from start aswell instead of unlocked after A class because i have been going back setting gold become quite easy because can adjust lots of things.

From my memory people set better times on Forza 2 with wheel then pad its just way it goes.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I've said it before and I know I won't be popular but buying a wheel is just a bit nerdy for me. I'd be hiding it away when my mates came round as I know I'd get a slagging!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

For S Class buy a Lotus 111R Tuned and use these settings depending on what points class your in.

my setup (650 points, professional mode, all aids off) :
Power +6
Tyres R3-R3
Aero 20-35
Ride Height 0-0
Spring rate 5-8
Damper 3-3
Toe -0.5+0.5
Camber 2.5-2
Brake 5-3
Max tuning angle 30
Traction OFF
ABS OFF

I didn't touch the transmission (yet!) as I still want to improve the suspension first.

Please try this setup and let me know what you think. It is forgiving in fast corners and reduce the oversteer.
Again, there is a lot of room for impovement here, so feedback are welcome!

for a 680pp race:
Power: +35
Weight: 90%
Downforce 10/35 (for the stable back end)
Rideheight 0/0
Suspension 5-8
Damper 3-3
Toe -0.05/-0.05
Camber 1.5-1.5
Brakebalance 5-3
Steerturn 30
TCS 1
ABS 1 (locking everything up)

Also try the car standard and your notice lift off oversteer now try it with these settings and its gone i used this car its amazingly fast round corners not much top end but around corner just destroys all. :DD

Good forum for viewing different car setup and settings.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Its good basic enough but in depth same time.

Im looking forward to unlocking F1 car 800k and counting now except going round oval is becoming highly tedious (S-9) Dodge Viper SRT10 tuned 4:18 and get 32,500 works out about 256,000 every 32 mins which is not to bad. Any car that can do over 190+ will win you S-9 very easy its a doddle to do but track is very very boring.

Wish there was another track to mix it up to earn quick money because i fell asleep at wheel a few times now.

I'm nowhere near as far on as you in this game but I can totally appreciate the boredom of easily winnning on an oval track. On GT3 I spend hours doing that to get my cash up- incredibly tedious. Wish I had a little brother willing to accept a fiver for a couple of hours work! (no sleazy and inappropriate remarks please).

I hate the oval tracks generally- only the yanks could devise driving round in circles all day!! Guess it's so they can see the whole track whilst sitting in the one place and eating their hot-dogs! :-pp

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Whats everyones current car in the game ?

I just bought a Nissan Skyline Coupe 370GT 07 so far it seems a bargain for what its worth, very powerful machine, Im pretty happy with it so far :)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Ferrari F430 '06 but im so used to my dodge viper im struggling to handle this.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Currently using the Dodge Viper.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Dodge Viper SRT10- Tuned thing goes and currently boring myself to 2 million credits.

Currently: 1,528,000 (well roughly) i will be finishing rest off tommorow jeeez oval most boring track ever evented. :-pp

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I've never been a fan of Time Trials in games in games before, but WOW! I am addicted to it now in GT5 :)

Just got the 52nd fastest time on the London Track (for the Honda) and was really chuffed! I've saved and watched the replay back and know where I can go faster - but I've had to pack away as the clunking of the gears is keeping the other half awake!

Still, always tomorrow :D

i'm in at number 11 on the golf gti '06 on the london track - all assists off and manual gears! :)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I have played it without a wheel and didnt like it but you 2 talking makes me want to try it with the wheel :))
