i'm in at number 11 on the golf gti '06 on the london track - all assists off and manual gears!![]()
My current car is still the Ford Focus, which I bought at the beginning. I've only played the game twice and my enthusiasm has already evaporated.
Is it true that the tuning mode is unlockable? If true, that's a sad reflection on a so-called "simulation". It also suggests you can race perfectly well without tuning as you don't have access to it from the outset, and unlocking it ast a much later stage in the game means you'll just have the chance to be even faster making the game easier. Surely you want the game to get harder.
Winston isnt that a prolem Gramn Turismo has always had. You can make your car super fast but the CPU does not improve there speed so the races become pointless and way too easy.
It may have taken more than a little time for Polyphony to warm to the idea, but Gran Turismo head Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that the series is finally going to be implementing damage, saying it could be included as a downloadable feature for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue as early as this Autumn.
In an interview with IGN earlier today, Yamauchi said that, "maybe by Fall we'll be able to implement it," before confirming that it would feature as a download for Prologue, which launched in the UK and across Europe last week. Gran Turismo has long been famed for its refusal to include any vehicle deformation, despite heightening demands from its fan-base, and any inclusion of the feature would be a massive boon for the series.
We'll have the full interview tomorrow, including Yamauchi's verdict on working on a Formula 1 title in the future, so check back for further details.
Are all races started with a rolling start? Hate that- it's unfair and boring. Reckon it's to minimise any slow-down etc with so many cars potentially colliding at once.
I bought this game for £20 in blockbusters, brand new! Why is it so cheap?
Also, are starting positions always pre-determined? ie. no qualifying? Truly bad.
Will the damage download be free? Will it include tyre degradation? Will it include engine and other performance hindering damage, even terminal damage? Or just cosmetic dunts on the bodywork? They've got a lot to think about if they want to implement a worthwhile damage model.

I'll have to pick that car up and have a go.
So much fun round that track as you say with the gears and assists off - what wheel you got?
Got to say, I'm in two minds about the game as a whole. Sometimes I'll play it and think, it took a lot of skill to win that race and it felt a lot harder than in e.g. Forza. That's a satisfying feeling. But most of the time I'm thinking, "surely it can't be like this to drive a real car, to be pulling so hard you're nearly pulling the stick out of the pad, and the car just isn't responding?"
(And before someone comes along and says "you need a wheel", fine, but stick a sticker on the front of the box saying "NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE WITH A GAMEPAD" and save me £20 then, because I'm never going to buy a steering wheel for one game, I'm not rolling in money and I'm imagining 99% of the people who buy this game aren't either.)
I really am in two minds, I'm not a driver so I don't know if it's a "simulation" (although I've had a year's worth of lessons so I should know in some sense if it feels realistic or not). But at the end of the day, for me personally, it's just not fun trying to get the damn cars to turn. That makes it more rewarding when you win but not in a good way, in an "in your face you stupid fucking game" way - like with the last few Pro Evos.
But I'm keeping at it so it must have something going for it.
