Gran Turismo 5

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

can't be bothered looking back through the posts - which wheel did you get and is it supposed to be the best!?

think i'm gonna get one...

btw, i got my arcade cabinet - what a bugger to setup! might need to pick your brains over a few things, but we will do that in the MAME cabinet thread... :)

Its the Logitech G25 and yes, its considered the best. Leather and metal parts - the thing is ROCK SOLID. The Pedals (metal) have different resistance levels (powered by compressed air), that mean the clutch feels like a clutch and the brake is hard to push down etc - its amazingly real!

Then of course the shifter - can have it as a H or sequential and again, made of metal and leather.

Gonna take some pics of the new setup later for AVF forums, but I'll chuck one in here too :)

Got it for £140 from Komplett - recommended!

As for the cab, drop me a PM if you need any help!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Very well may pick up a wheel, problem is I'd have to have to wheel on my lap which would just be stupid. Got nowhere to stick it for suitable driving position and such.

Ah man, its not comfortable for your lap. Let alone it digging into you, the level of FF means you hardly be able to keep it still - then you have to work the pedals in and of course the seperate shifter is out of the question.

Some people on AVF have brought stands - which you either sit on to keep the wheel stable, or more grander designs which are freestanding - or racing frames that you actually sit in.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Oh my god! Just spent my lunch break on this using the wheel - absolutely awesome...

Even in C Class, throwing my C4 around Nordland (whatever its called!) absolutely exhilerating. Turn all the assists off, gears to manual using clutch and it really (no, REALLY!) feels like driving a real car.

I can see why its called the "Real Driving Simulator" now - after a few goes, I found myself 100% immersed and I shat myself when coming up to a hairpin and the car in front slammed on their brakes - I jumped on the brake medal and got that flip in your stomach that you get in a real car accident (if anyone has had one).

Now if thats not simulation I dont know what is.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Heard the G25 is immense thinking about picking one up in future sound awesome from what your saying.

Ah, I'm not kidding, I'm sitting back at my desk for work now and I am buzzing with excitment - my hands are still shaking from the feedback, vibration and control you need to keep the car (a C4 REMEMBER!) on the road.

I sold my iMac to fund this new setup/steering wheel and I was worrying if I did the right thing. I worry no more!

Dirt is arriving tomorrow (which is meant to be fab with the G25) and as I said, F1 is superb too. With GRID coming out soon (which personally I am now not impressed with, but we'll see when we get hands on), the wheel is a worthwhile purchase!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Paul why have you got a 7 year old picture of Paul Jewell as your Avatar?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

great vid DJ Doc. To be honest I not suprised about the average A.I. and bumper car physics. PD have shown in the past that programming very good A.I. is something they are just not good at.

Dunno! Just cracks me up. Is it really 7 years old? I got it from the News of the World story about Paul and his wandering penis the other week. Thats his 'arrrrggghhh' face :)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Is it? I thought it was his "setting up the camera but ironically it makes the perfect 'BUSTED' picture for a newspaper" face...

Yea, thats what I meant! :D Whatever, its a funny pic (when used in context with the story ran that day!)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Ah, I thought you meant something rather more sexual by "arrrgh". That was a different picture.

I would imagine Paul Jewell to be that excited during climax though... still with his wooley jumper on... romance is not dead!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Just done a lap of London which would put me easily inside the top 10 online times.... And I'm not THAT good... find that a bit odd...

(unless its the power of the wheel!)

Yeah, you know what the News of the World is like. They have a certain celeb doin something every week and this time they had nothing so they re-ran a story that happened 7 years ago

you can tell anyway from the pic when we signed him how old it looks

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I've never been a fan of Time Trials in games in games before, but WOW! I am addicted to it now in GT5 :)

Just got the 52nd fastest time on the London Track (for the Honda) and was really chuffed! I've saved and watched the replay back and know where I can go faster - but I've had to pack away as the clunking of the gears is keeping the other half awake!

Still, always tomorrow :D

Good thing about time trials now is having other cars on track same time its like open day at race track all different classes.
