Gran Turismo 5

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

But you are doing a diservice to the name - whether you believe it or not, how can you play the 'real driving simulator' from an Arcade style view - then moan that its not the 'real driving simulator'? :D

In-car with dash is the best way - the videos on YouTube (and me on Monday!) of people playing with wheels, you see the movement on the wheel in the game mimick exactly on the real wheel. Even without the wheel, in car is the way to go no question.

Least give it a go for a few races?!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

The PC games like GTR 2 etc are better sims then Forza and Gran Turismo combined but they dont appeal to me to much focused on race cars (well last time i played they were) prefer myself road cars and ability to tune your car and customise and all the stuff like that.

Indeed think the outside of car view is horrid either cockpit or bumper view for me but each to there own.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I just simply cant drive inside the car... I can do it on F1 CE (because you can still see a lot!) but I cant on GT5... makes you wonder how I can drive a car in real life... I strap myself on a pole mounted on the back of the car...

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Yep but you cant tune on Prologue ;) okay im being too picky now. Ill try and get back into this!

You will be able to in full game aftermarket parts like rest of Gran Turismo now that being picky. ;))

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

lol I know mate seriously im only having you on. I do like GT5 Prologue thus far, its a good experience but its started to go a bit stale. Especially with the AI repeating itself which STILL happens now in other Class B Races...

Please tell me you're not still using the behind view Dave?

At least use the bumper cam!

Did you watch my replay i posted probably got abit lost now in pages since. :))

Would agree with AI although they can be very good at times ala my video but ye scripts sometimes appear to break on them :/.

Go round arcade with GT-R and AI up to 76 very challening imo in many ways.

Freaking awesome drifting video when you want to can pull off some awesome drifting in game 1:38 in video is where its at the close control was superb. :))

Tyre screeching abit over done though in game i said before but needs to be toned down quite abit or at least option to turn it off or some kind of dynamic trye squeel sounds.

In reply to DjDoc4 :
I never saw your video review mate, but in answer to your comments :

1: You can redefine the pad to whatever layout you want, be it shoulder buttons for accelerate or whatever. Fine done that....( That was only aimed at the newcomers.... )

2: The game handles PERFECTLY well with the analogue sticks, if you are constantly Over/UnderSteering, then you need to practise more. Umm I was DELIBERATELY oversteering and understeering to get a Feel for the car and WASNT feeling what I expected to... You should listen to what I say. ( Why? Are you the Driving Guru of the Internet? Matter of opinion / horses for courses etc....a personal thing that everyone will differ on, but no cockpit view = how can you judge the handling properly? I've never driven to work looking at the back of my motor...)

3: The physics on Pro Simulation are great, turn off ALL driving Aids, they Hinder performance imo, just practise a bit more if you are having troubles.I have and read my posts since my video.... yes the game has improved but its STILL some way off what I think it should be..( It's a Prologue....What do you want for £20? I've never driven a R35 GTR07 and never will, and if i did i'm sure i'd instantly stall it and/or die in Real Life......so what do you think it SHOULD be like? )

4: The car weighting feel is Perfect for me. Example i can drift the Suzuki Cappucino and The R35 GTR07 all day long, but the feel is so different whilst doing it.Ok I can drift in a Cappucino... what I dont like is it doesnt feel Natural like it does in Forza....( Forza is ARCADE, Pure and simple, Although still a truely fantastic gaming series....... )

5: If you don't use the cockpit view, and use the externals then you are missing out on some of the joy of this game. Um ok but I find I cant play this using the Cockpit View.. it restricts my vision too much. ( ?, How can you judge a game like this using the ARCADE view? )

6:Forza 1 + 2 are good games ( I own both ), but they have always, and still do, feel a bit too arcade for me. With this statement you have proved you know nothing about Simulations.... Forza is 10 times MORE a simulator than GT has EVER been (Again my opinion and others who know about physics agree with me)....( I know a Shitload about Physics, It's my job. FORZA = Arcade. You can't judge Physics in a racing game playing external view. )

7: If you really want to play a TRUE racing simulation, then get GTR2 or RFactor for PC.

I have got GTR2... and guess what? It feels 10 times better than Gran Turismo.... ( I agree 100%, that's why i said it.... )

See my responses next to yours...

This isn't a flame by the way, i've read your posts on other subjects like the PES2008 v FIFA 2008 argument and i tend to agree with 95% of what you say, just have to agree to disagree on this one i suppose....:))

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I just watched your video review DjDoc4......lol...classic....

General consensus when reviewing a game is you actually play it for a while or complete it before you comment on it....... " I thought this was 2008, not 1984 "....I'd rather wait 10mins for a game to install to my HD than have to wait 10 mins every time a game had to load up a track, as opposed to the 10 secs it takes now in GT5P, " Traction control, probably doesn't matter...." true classic, and you know about physics?!?!?

" Why haven't they used the triggers as accelerate etc "....omg...who doesn't play a driving sim and calibrate the controls first?

" I see the CPU cars are following the racing line....? " um yeah...they're meant to...i see you following the big blue noob line too...

" the cars are too stiff....yeah, that's too much..." 30 secs into the race, you can't take the 3rd corner so you blame it on the game. classic.

" the CPU cars are sticking to their lines...if this is pro physics it's not what i expected ...".....Pro physics is about the car handling, it's got nothing to do with the AI race lines.....

That waa a great review....the entire game summed up in 2 laps...Genius.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

That video is sweet.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Woolworths have "put one away for me" (I put it in quotes in-case last night happens all over again) - so I should be playing it this afternoon. Can't wait to see if graphics like this are real.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I reckon you'll be trading it in by Wednesday JB! No offence, but the way you find holes in some great games, this game is gonna be like a fishing net for you!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Hey, it's what I do...

Seriously, you can't go wrong for £20 though. If I don't like it, I can trade it in next month for a tenner - that means I've rented it for a month, for a tenner. To rent it for ONE WEEK from Blockbuster would cost £19.25.

I have just picked it up from Woolworth's on my way to the bookies.

They had loads of copy's left.

Your Blockbusters doing a half-price special? :D

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

No, they just charge disgusting prices. I've decided it's stupid paying £5.50 to rent something for two nights when you could keep it for a month for £10... But I will be annoyed if it doesn't fetch £10 next month. Looking at the stock shortages on the web I should think I'll be alright though.

Chill out man - it's HIS opinions about a VIDEO GAME. Don't get your knickers in a twist, there is a war going on in Iraq; that's what I call serious...

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

You can unlock tuning after you complete the classes - and it lets you tune your car during a race as well.

Quick Tune is unlocked when you finish C, B and A-class races in Event mode, and lets you adjust tons of car settings before each race, giving you a performance-points score based on the balance you strike.

You can also store up different configurations to switch between in real-time during races. These configs can be assigned to buttons on the Sixaxis or Driving Force GT steering wheel.

For those of you who care, the options you can adjust using Quick Tune are: power, weight, tyre, aerodynamics, ride height, spring rate, damper, toe angle, camber angle, brake balance, traction control, max turning angle, ABS, torque balance and gear ratios. The Quick Tune page also shows you graphs of power/torque and gear ratio to help you see what you're doing.

Been playing this this morning with all the assists off and it just gets better and better - i'll still over steer occasionally if im trying to show off too much on a corner - but the bald tyre feeling isn't there anymore and the replays look really nice after a race - the car doesn't seem to be nudging left and right unrealistically - it glides side to side.

Though im still in my Mazda RX so it should get better and harder to control the faster cars

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Wont people just download it?
Not for £25 when it's £20 at Woolies.

Just got my copy but the Chelsea match is on now - once they're 3-0 up I'll come and try it. Radiation's review there has made me excited.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

It took me a good few races to get used to it - i was far too used to arcadey racers where you can brake down from 140mph to 3mph in about 3 seconds and accelerate out of a turn with full force without loosing traction and spinning out.

What im doing here is braking early, then jabbing the accelerator now and again as im turning through the bend and then going full on as i come out -- which is basically what you should do. This way the car might start to over steer but as soon as i stop jabbing X i can get it under control.

Some of the powerslides ive pulled off look stunning on the replays - ill have to sort out a new cap card and record some stuff - the one i have is ok, but its low resolution and inability to cap audio is annoying now

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Where do you turn the assists off?
