Gran Turismo 5

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Where do you turn the assists off?

Before you start a race the option menu pops up then change standard to professional and make sure other settings are off.

I dont know how you can miss it :-pp

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I thought that was it, I just wasn't sure, thanks.

I'm not ready to drive pro yet.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I'll try it out later on.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Took 15 minutes to install and about 30 minutes to update. Not bothered though because - are you ready for this - with the assists off and the physics on pro (haven't tried it any other way and I doubt I will), I love it. It feels natural to me to steer the car, it just feels right. This is only in a Ford Focus though, I'm guessing as you get faster cars I'll be spinning uncontrollably and I'll be in here cursing you all. It feels a bit too easy to steer actually, if it was Forza I would be spinning a lot more often, but I'm no race driver so I don't know if that's realistic or not. Feels good though.

The only disappointment for me so far are the graphics, surprisingly enough, which is a blow as that's what I was looking forward to the most - I wanted them to be as real as they are in the vids but, to me, they're not. I've tried on 720p and there's so many jaggies it's like looking at knives. On 1080i there's a blur to the image, which helps the look of the jaggies, but eliminates the sharpness of the environment. So either way you lose out, which is really disappointing.

Gameplay-wise I'm actually quite impressed, with it being so short and lacking depth (as in lack of tracks and cars) it's not something you're going to play months after release I don't think - but for £20 it's a brilliant little game that I can't wait to get stuck into.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

you can get it for £17.99 on play.com... I still refuse to pay that for a game which is half made!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I've managed to assemble a decent garage - a ferrari and a dodge viper and a bunch of others... the dodge handles like a bitch but it's my fave car, easy to powerslide but easy to over power it and end up spinning.

I'll have to post some vids up but im holding off for a new cap card

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

'My Page' and the music that plays in the background are both beautiful.

EDIT: That video is insane, I've got 8 cars now and I finally beat the Honda challenge on Class B.

Aye... the update has failed 3 times now. It's starting to piss me off.

It all depends on car RWD cars obviously back will go out alot more but this is all part of the experience it fighting the car and exactly same experience you witness in real life with Traction control off etc. If you really cant deal with it stick it on Standard and the car wont lose backend only if you try really hard but you can do it really easy in professional for obvious reasons.

There is jaggies but i only notice them most in menus strangely, im playing at 1080p the general opinion i got from elsewhere is 720p etc showing up jaggies quite abit compared to 1080p no idea why.

Still im sure the graphics are still very nice for you right as to me there freaking awesome. ?

Glad to see your enjoying game though hope it continues although your going to see the AI flaws sharpish like me but i can live with it Beta afterall.

Anyway on to mine managed to get 400,000 credits by going round A-1 event loads of times 20k for 4:25 work on oval. Boring as hell but very easy to work money up i bought Ferrari F430 and M3 Coupe to finish A class off hurrah. (not bothering to get all golds you dont need to)

Now you can tune car after complete A class no aftermarket parts im reading AI is really challenging in S Class and you should judge the AI when your in S Class so here we go moment of truth...

Edit: Forgot to mention controls are way more sharpish to me compared to Forza i like it they feel more responsive and more control over car.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Looks like this is a good game after all, a little disappointed that JB thinks the graphics aren't as good as the vids etc but i can see all assists off and professional physics is the way to go to get the best out of this game.:)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Replays look better then in game but its not such a big leap imo i mean car detail looks no different to me in game and replay maybe some more aa in replays but that is all i think.

Dont know about you guys, but that doesnt bother me. I love the incar view (or I will when my GF gives me the game back!) and I concentrate on driving - then its a joy to watch the reply back and watch your hard work in full HD glory.

They will surely allow the 'My Home' thingy online soon so you can upload replays etc?

I'm really excited about the game. I think PD are going to experiment on us as way of releasing media - they will give us dribs and drabs of updates to add new features - some free, some payable and in 12 months we will end up with a full game based on what we have liked and want.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

He knows its for me for fuck sake TG!! open your eyes man!

@ Cammey thats the impression I got. I still dont see how the hell he can tell me Forza 2 is an Arcade game lol! it blatantly isnt.... If your a physics man then shit we are in trouble!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Forza not an arcade game this is thing so many people with different opinions guess thats life end of day.

They are more then likely going to sync Prologue with Home and i should think your have option to upload your replay to the TV in your home so others can watch on a TV standing there in your home.

Its going to be interesting what they come up with i hope they allow option to select what cars you want to race against would be nice to have a full field on splitscreen or at least few more cars.

Im really looking forward to Home i thought it would just be gimmick at first but when you think of full scale it can achieve its very interesting.

Edit: What happened to Jack he must be stuck to Prologue. :))

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I've had to stop for tonight because I found out the Ford Focus "doesn't do" corners - I'm going to delete the save and start again tomorrow. Infuriating, I was slowing down to 50, 40, 30, and the car just would not turn. I need to start with a better car.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

With TC turned off, ASM turned off and on the Rally Eiger Norwand stage... the fuckin Rally Car (Evo IX) would NOT turn.... I had to break down to ridiculous speeds to turn, there is no way you can beat that Class B speed challenge... You cannot rally a rally car in this game.. its brilliant!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

...Can't believe the triggers aren't used for accelerating either.

i, for one, am very glad they haven't used the triggers for accelerate and brake. i cut my teeth on GT1 using the buttons and even use them on forza 2...

much better imo, but each to their own i suppose. i'm also an 'in the car man'...

lol you sound like my brother who come over well yesterday now he go's car would not turn BMW M3 Coupe only to show him he was missing braking points. he was complaining well car would not turn at 40mph then all of sudden he turning the car fine the plonker think he was not controlling thumb stick correctly.

Then i showed him a clean lap afterwards he did say i need more time to practice as he hasnt played GT for long time. :)) Which is fair do's actually takes abit of time to get used to again after not playing game for so long as i have had Jap one had abit more time to get used to it.

(not laughing at you for record just how surprisingly familiar it was with same experience last night)

Research time

Its due to tyre selection i have just tried it again basically its set to Sports 3 (and cant change in event) i hit 1:18 something and just gone into Arcade and set it to Racing R3 tyres and bloody grip compared unbeleivable hit 1:16.101. (could of done better but was race and 3 laps 2 was slow cars getting in way)

Now thinking about it my guess is they are using wheel at Polyphony and not making much leeway for the pad saying this though i have seen people on net got all golds but not mentioned if using pad or not.

Anyway i agree it is insanely hard and i can only manage bronze on track.

But more i think im not expert but rally car is tuned to my knowledge to get most out of it although Evo IX shares rally features it wont be as tuned as real McCoy i should think. (plus Sports 3 more of road tyre compared to tyre found on rally stage vehicle which would probably be R1-3 or equivalent in this game.) Plus having been in Scooby in real life the thing stick to the road like glue as its 4WD and all experience in GT 5 is no different for me with Scooby to real life how car grips etc i cant see the experience being much different in Evo tbh.

Shame there is no proper rally car in game as there was in GT HD i beleive.

Edit: Forgot to add for me tyre selection plays a huge part in this game to the way the car handles etc.

Also as tuning now open for me (complete A class and opens nice video also) think im going to take a look at what best setting for the Evo IX on GT Planet

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

S Class is officially bloody hard well apart from Oval S-9 and AI are more of challenge but still the breaking in AI scripts unfortunately. But this is coding fault it has to be no other explanation in video after completing A class it said AI team and one person name eek. :/

Just done S-1 few times now (seems the Lotus 111R Tuned is beast which is in Polyphony section in dealership tuned Evo IX there aswell) anyway could not beleive it had 3rd in my grasp up the behind of Elise ready to take and blew it last corner made mistake and come 4th gutted indeed. :((

Edit: there really is so many options on tuning really makes car better can change steering angle aswell.

seems this will come in handy to perfect times when going back and wanting golds shading times off etc.

Going to try this later look forward to seeing difference

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

:D Got my wheel today - wow!

Having to use clutch to shift the H-Shape box is well cool! Actually feels quite instinctive after a while due to being the same as driving an actual car.

The feedback in F1:CE is amazing too, especially in slipstreams, the wheel is all over the show! Was knackered after 1 race!

Well worth it if you have some spare cash.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

can't be bothered looking back through the posts - which wheel did you get and is it supposed to be the best!?

think i'm gonna get one...

btw, i got my arcade cabinet - what a bugger to setup! might need to pick your brains over a few things, but we will do that in the MAME cabinet thread... :)
