Football Manager 2008

I just started a new game with Arsenal and decided a clear out was necessary.

Almunia to Man City £5m.
Bendtner to Portsmouth £7m.
Gilberto Silva to Tottenham £6m.
Senderos to Lazio £4m.
Eboue to Newcastle £3.9m + Andy Carroll.

My transfer kitty is now a whopping £54m and I haven't signed anyone yet. I'm looking for a couple of wide players and a forward really. Put offers in for Felipe (Udinese), Fernandez (Villareal), Diego Capel (Sevilla) but need some more.. anyone got any ideas?

How do you offload players like that!? i find it impossible for people to buy my deadwood or just players i don't want anymore :SS

If I were you, I'd go straight on to English-atize Arsenal!

Diego Capel was a real disappointment. I bought him for € 15M but he had never justified his price so I'd sold him next season for 22M € plus 25% of a future transfer. Anyway, I have 5 top class wingers in my team: Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Joe Cole, Aaron Lennon and Robin Van Persie. For the next year I have already caught Petr Cech. What a dream Cech at Old Trafford!

Yeah YoungGun it's very difficult to offload some players. I want to sell Kranjcar, Saha and Campbell but nobody wants them.

I need some advice guys, I bought Huntelaar and I play him upfront in the two formations that I use (4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2 with Totti dropping off) but he isn't doing anything. His morale is good but he hasn't scored a competitive goal yet, I'm slightly worried because he is perfect for my team but he isn't responding.

To anyone else that hsa bought Huntelaar, how did you get the best out of him?

I didn't. He came across as a lazy bastard and he missed loads of his shots by miles. So I sold him to Man Utd.

Haha I might do, I haven't played it since then so I've still got plenty of time in the transfer window. Arsenal would feel dirty if they had to pay a fortune to buy Bentley back though

Set them to available for transfer, unavailable for loan, not needed by club, and 'unspecified' value. Then the offers will come rolling in. Also playing them in a few friendlies helps keep their value up.:))

He delivered the goods for me eventually, he scored 1 goal in 11 games and then I went public, he agreed, scored in the next game and didn't stop from there on in. He finished the season with 41 starts (+ 9 sub appearances) and 30 goals.

I also won the league and champs league, signed Mata for a cool £5million in the winter and in the summer I got Tevez on a free, Danny Alves for £30million and Pique for £15million.

Also in the 1st season Totti scored 25 goals but in the 2nd season he only scored about 10/11 but he racked up 30 assists!

PS: My club about to be taken over! Has this happened to anyone else?

Pablo Piatti a little gem Argentinian attacking midfielder better off in centre then left wing though.

Bought him for £250k and he worth £5 mill now and all sorts of clubs in for him he hasnt excelled that well but for young kid he hasnt done to bad and still got many years in him.

Jimmy Briand didnt to to bad either but he takes a while to adapt Adriano was pile of poop for me. Immense pre season but failed to cut it in Prem to many goal droughts was recommended him aswell managed to suck out 96 goals from him in 2 seasons.

The board gave me £95million to spend in the summer just gone so and anything more than that will see me making huge bids for players :DD

Is there a way to tell teams to piss off once and for all? Every few weeks AC and Inter will make piss poor bids for Mexes and De Rossi, they'll also go public and declare their interest and I'm fed up with it.

There are absolutely tons of downloadables for the FM series. I've even made a few background packs (so you can see the stadium you're in). There is so much content out there.

Best place is SORTITOUTSI.NET, it can be quite a slow site to access but they have allsorts - and even more on their forums.

Go nuts. I got the stadium packs, the improved sound pack (you might only find that on the official SI forum, I forget), and there are mega badge packs and face packs as well. You just have to look around and get what you think looks best.

Started an online game with my flatmate. I'm Fulham and hes Sunderland, we're about to start our 3rd season in 4 days (We're addicted).

Our first season saw Sunderland finish 16th and Fulham 17th. 2 games from the end, WBA and me were tied on points with WBA having a better goal difference. In the second last game, it was Fulham-WBA and at half time my boys were down 2-0. At this point I was relegated and going down. The game ended 3-2 for me and WBA ended up going down.

In our second season, I finished 15th with my flatmate finishing 17th on the last day. Middlesbrough had 3 games left, 2 of which were at home, and my flatmate had to face United (at home) on his last game of the season. I had to play West Ham away (who were 10th) on the last day of the season and if I lost or drew, I would have gone down, same as my flatmate. Preston and Boro were all tied on points with us so if they both won and we didnt, we were going down. I ended up winning my game 2-1 (7 straight losses before hand) after a brave fight, and my flatmate magically defeated United 3-2, after going 2-1 down (coming from 10 games without a win) in the first half. Boro won 3-0 and ended with a better goal difference than me and would've stayed up, same as Preston who had won 2-0 against Wigan (last).

So right now we've had 2 seasons where we survived in the last 3 days of the prem. Awesome game:D

Becanes, there are some packs which contain everything you would want, but the quality isn't usually up to the standard of self-chosen individual files.

Here's some links to a couple of packs if you want them:

(Sorry mods if links to this site are not allowed)

Thanks. If you have any suggestions for individual packs, I'd aprreciate it. I downloaded the FM 2008 Soundpack. I play as Fulham but I don't hear any chants. I do here crowd noises though.

What settings did you guys use when you started a new game? You use a full database? Did you add alot of leagues? What happens when you load up say the top 6 leagues in Europe? Are all the leagues still playing? Can you get players from those leagues? Give me your starting setups.

Thanks

If I play a game that I want to play for a long time, I load quite a lot of leagues, if it's one with a few mates online I just load England. Less leagues makes it process faster.

The most popular/best players from leagues that you have not selected will be in the database, and more of them will be there depending on whether you select a large database size.

It depends how much RAM your computer has as well, you will be able to have a smooth running game with more leagues with more RAM.

I only ever played in England so I'd just load up all the English leagues. It makes it faster as well, it's nice to be able to sim a day in one second rather than ten seconds, which mounts up when it's two weeks til your next game...

You can add loads of leagues and it means a nice change when you fancy it, but A) it's hard to get employed in a foreign country and B) it makes it so much slower that it detracts from the experience.

IMO, of course.

SO if I only load up England, are the other leagues still running? I just can't coach there? I can still play against other leagues in competitions? Can I still become a national team coach of the USA?

If you only load up England you can only manage there, but Champions League games etc. still happen, and the international events like the World Cup. They're just simulated i.e. you can't watch the highlights, only read the scores.

If you wanted to become USA national team coach, you should go to the "load all players from" dropdown and select USA, that way you can manage in England but if you did become USA manager (which you could) you'd have all the American players to choose from.

Another tip, if you manage a conference side (or an equally poor side) set the database to huge, but if you're only going to manage in the Premier League then just set the database to medium or even small. You don't need all the crap players loaded (which is what huge does) if you're going to manage a Premier League side.

yeah

i have England, Spain and Italy selected incase i want to move abroad :))

Thanks for all your help JB, Rob and Coopz and anyone else. I'm sure I'll have more questions. I had started a league with Fulham but now that I have added a few things and with your guys answers I'm going to start a new one with Fulham again. Thanks.

Do you guys have any suggestions for starting out? Should I be looking to try to sign a player now? How to I find free transfers? I think this thread is going to turn into a Q&A if you guys don't mind? I'm very new to this.

I usually don't allow transfers in the first market. To see out of contract players go to player search, click filter, and add Contract as one of the criteria, then set to expired. By the way its hell hard to survive with Fulham. I managed to do it on the last few days of the season.
