Football Manager 2008

That does get quite repetitive. I've just had to clear my shortlist as I'm sick of being linked with players everyday.
 
Just beaten Real Madrid 3-2 at the Bernabau with Atletico, then beat Barca 3-1 at the Calderon :D

Dilemma time now though. Andwele Slory has been the signing of the season and currently has a rating of 7.38, my best player, and he plays AM/L. Raul Garcia plays the support role (rating of approx 7.20) and Aguero on AM/R (slightly out of position but getting approx 7.30 and assist/goals galore), with Guilherme as my lone striker (rating approx 7.30, shitload of goals and assists).

Now, I've seen Vicente (Valencia AM/L) was on the list for £7.25m. Too good to turn down, surely? So I've signed him, but I can't see how I can play him :( My assistant says he's a lot better than Slory but Slory got the golden boot in Europe last year with something like 40 goals, he's remarkable for me with his assists and goals, surely I can't drop him? I'm going to have to turn into Rafa and rotate players I think :(
 
I need some good players from you lot

im starting a network game with my mates and they play it alot, i dont so dont know any decent players at all!!!

Tip for you mate, in your shortlists, theres a bit where you can choose 'Active Shortlists'. Turn them all off and then you can keep your players in there but you don't get linked with them all the time and other clubs don't automatically start making bids for them.

Coopz some players.

Youth (need a season or 2 to develop)
Henri Saivet [ST] (Bordeuax) - Can get him for a compensation pay out at the start
Mamadou Sahko [DF](PSG) - Same as above, I played him first season due to injuries and he was great.
Bogdan Stancu [ST](cant remember Romanian team) - scores loads, young and cheap
Lulinha [AM] (Corinthians) - Very low release clause, wont get a work permit but is brilliant after 2 or 3 seasons.

Good Signings
Rafael Van Der Vaart [AM] (HSV) - Pure class loads of goals and assists from midfield. Pretty good signing for Man United.
Matias Fernandez [AM] (Villareal) - See above.

And you need cover for right back realy (just like real life) so Lahm, Alves, Rafinha, Eduardo Ratinho are all good.

Pique is great first off, dont sell him cos you'll get a load of enquiries. Dont settle for less than 40mil for Rio or Vidic (you'll get offers for them too). Saha's pretty useful too despite the fact that in real life his legs are made out of glass and breadsticks.

Rafael Van der Vaart is an awesome player but I haven't him in my starting eleven because I play in 4-4-2 with two centre midfielders Anderson and Hargreaves. My idea was replace Anderson for Van der Vaart but Anderson usually plays better than him.

Now I need to buy a striker. My attacking options are Rooney, Agüero, Saha and Tevez. The problem is that Tevez is injured and Rooney and Agüero usually make shit and get a long time suspension.
I really don't know who will buy. I thought Berbatov, Anelka, Huntelaar but I'm undecided.

Don't you think that people telling you which players to buy defeats the object of the game? Like now when you go and buy them, you won't feel the same satisfaction you would have done had you found them yourself...

I remember on FM 07, I found a player at the start of the first season in the Swiss U21s, Marco Bertolina (he's shit on 08), who was in good form for his club and had plenty of U21 goals so I signed him for 50k, then 5 seasons later he wins the European golden boot and gets me to 8th in the Prem with Coventry...
It was so good knowing that I found that player without even looking on any forums or anything.
 
Love the game, currently nearing the end of my second season with Tottenham. Had the Brazilian talent Guilherme as my third-choice striker since I signed him in mid-season 07/08. He scored 13 goals before the end of the season and is now my first-choice striker, with my Assistant saying he's "far better" than Berbatov.

07/08
- Finished 4th, knocked out early in UEFA. Signed Franck Ribery mid-season for £24m after selling Darren Bent and Abel Taarabt for a surprising £9m to Liverpool, who have sold Steven Gerrard to Inter! No luck in domestic cups. My top scorer was Berbatov with 32 goals in the league, 43 overall.

08/09
- 5th with 5 games left. In the FA Cup final against Manchester United, yet to be played. Lost 4-3 after extra-time to Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final, in some kind of vengeance for real-life events! In the semi's of the UEFA Cup against Everton, won first leg at their ground 2-0. Got knocked out of Champs League after group stages. Top scorer at the moment is Guilherme, with 25 league goals, I play him just behind Robbie Keane.

Second season at Old Trafford. Manchester United king of Europe! 4-1 against AC Milan. Agüero simply the best. Cristiano Ronaldo too, Van der Vaart, Rooney, Lennon, etc...
 
Does the match have good graphics or tiny dots with the ball going around ping pong like?
 
It's never been 3D and it never will be 3D, they leave it to your imagination because it's a lot more realistic seeing a dot break an offside trap and score than a 3D man kick the ball with the heel of his foot and sometimes miss the ball completely - yet it magically flies off somehow (ala LMA and FIFA Manager).

The only reason I am going off the game is because of how damn hard it is. It's very realistic but when you lose ten games in a row when you're promoted to a better league, it's not exactly barrels of fun.

now you know how Coopz feels with derby. But when you do get promoted im glad its a struggle, because the whole point is to survive

Of course, can't fault the realism and I'd rather every game was realistic. But like any game, if you lose all the time (or even if you win all the time) and you can't do anything about it (no money), it gets boring.
 
I got the game today and can't figure out why the Pitch view is so slow, I've changed the match speed to the highest it can go but it makes no difference.

its the highlight speed you need to pump up, its the one underneath
 
Can someone please recommend me a decent cheap striker that wont cost more than £2million, I'm Roma and the season has just begun but Vucunic is out for a month and Totti has just gone down also.
 
You probably wont get a striker good enough for Roma for £2m mate. Got any players on the transfer list? Offer them to clubs, hopefully they'll make an offer the next day and you can get some more money together.

I can't recommend Guilherme from Cruzeiro highly enough. Last season he scored 39 goals for my Atletico team. This season he's played 16 and scored 22 :D
 
I figured as much, I just want an extra body until the summer when the board will hopefully give me more money and I can buy a hitman to play with Totti.

I'll add Guilherme to my shortlist.
 
Maybe get someone on loan? I got Ricardo Oliveira for just under a million in my second season.

Have a look around the top European teams and see which strikers aren't being played, you might be able to get one on the cheap if his status is squad rotation or backup :)

I've done some searches and I've come across Bogdan Stancu - AEK (had a £2million + clauses offer accepted) and Falcao - River. Looks like I'll settle for Stancu because he arrive in January.

If I get my way Huntelaar will be my hitman next season.
 
stancu booo cheat player :P. ask your board for more funds and see what they say, they seem to be better at giving funds than in FM07
 
Why is he a cheat player? Is it a bug?

EDIT: Just asked for more money and now I've got £12million :))

well hes just one of them players who is probably over rated which everybody buys. you can get his for about 200k at beggining of the season and he scores for fun

Falcao is at Zaragoza or someone on my game, the guy looks VERY talented, scoring a fair few goals.

I bought Huntelaar for £15m, he didn't do very well at all. Sold him to Man Utd for £14m and signed Jozy Altidore. Who didn't do too well either, he's on his way to Villareal for £4m. So now I need another striker but not someone who will demand a first team place because I only play one striker and Guilherme isn't going to lose his spot anytime soon.

My scouts are all over the world, I'm sure I'll turn up a quality Brazilian :) Already got Diego Costa and Giuliano who play AM/C so I could always train them to play as a natural striker.
