FIFA 23 Discussion Thread (Console Versions)

This is the kind of stuff that makes me wish the gameplay was anything close to enjoyable for me... They've always been great at the "fluff" but it's definitely gone up a notch this year (excluding the lack of WC stadiums).

And then you start the match... and its like final scenes from Benny Hill, when they were all running on fast forward.

Should have been there for release. Wouldn't have happened in the cartridge, disc days. Disgrace that it takes months to get the stadium in the first place. Also they don't use those shots anywhere near enough considering how good they all look.

I’ll ask it here…
I played 22 and 23 a lot yesterday. Same matches, same conditions… switching between versions. 22 ain’t that bad…🤷‍♂️😂 AI wise. Anyway… what I wanna know from you guys: what are the pros and cons of 22 compared to 23, for you personally. Please (try to) name 3 or more points. Thanks in advance! 👍

I do this a lot and jump between the two and try to see which one I enjoy the most. even did it yesterday
22 I really like, at some point before the final patches was for me the best. Its just sometimes the ai does way too much tiki taka. Sometimes im just running behind them and they end up with a high passing %.
In 23 they make more mistakes and feel a bit more human.
22 for me has better animations and less sliding could be bc of the speed bc I sped up 23 and it seemed to help though not as much
To be honest I think 23 plays better but I'm trying to mess w sliders in 22 bc i can't put my finger on it but I feel its a bit more fun. Its weird... Let me know what you think about the issues in both

Thank for your reply, el niche! 👍
I like the 22 AI a bit better, even when I also notice some more tiki taki (both versions I play on the lastest OS slider). But this more time… haven’t touched on 22 for weeks. I noticed some humanized mistakes last night and thought 22 did this more natural (like inaccurate passes into space). 🤷‍♂️
23 is a tad slower (i think) and I like that. There is a tad more clipping of the ball though players in 22 I guess (Inoticed this on replay only).
Same here, I think I could have a decent time with 22.

Im asking because I’ve put my 23 on eBay for sale (nobody wants it though 😂 ) and asked myself if I could be good with 22.
Keeping my beloved 16 for sure, but for the newer versions… I wanted to decide which version to keep (AND play).

The only pro i have found for 22 is there was Greenwood at the beggenning and Thauvin. and the referee was a bit better. That's all.

FIFA 23 is better for me : less sliding, more errors, less tikitaka, better marking, better GK, better visuals, better soundtrack, more Bundesliga scans (Thuram and Szoboszlai 🤩), slower game speed, far more and better animations.

I will have my gamer laptop soon so i will start doing some modding👀.

@PRO_TOO I find it really hard to "get deep" into what I feel about either next-gen FIFA, because I just can't get past an overall feeling of "weird" / "alien".

Trying to see past that and make comparisons... I find it almost impossible because that "core feel" is the same.

It's so many things at once - the skating, the jelly legs, the instant alien-level responsiveness to your input, the ball that flies like a rocket on simple ground passes one second and then drags like a bowling ball the next, the attributes making no difference (at least not to AI-controlled players, which is 90.9% of your team and 100% of the AI-controlled team), huge (and obvious) issues designed to ensure the right result (e.g. goalkeepers diving AWAY from the ball)...

Trying to nail that all down into a few words is really difficult.

With all that going on, I can't appreciate what's good. I know it's there, but while I'm trying to see it, I'm controlling an octopus on rollerskates with a ball that floats like a shopping bag in the wind when I shoot (sometimes). It's all so... Weird. Weird is the only word.

Hi Chris
I have seen a tone of FIFA 23 videos and sometimes i Wonder if I played the same game.
Very strange sliding, bad and weird animations, dumb goal keepers, rocket passes and shoot.

I have this bad gameplay when i have the night bug whom accelerate everything.
Without him, the game can be nice to play.

The big major issue of this game is the non constant game speed who killed gameplay. The animations suck when the speed is high.

The second issue is the lack of variation on AI strategy. We can see some variations but on PS5/pc/Series X it's not that kind of AI I was expected to see...

But since I have changed my general speed, AI went back and make more crosses. Monaco is the team with Liverpool who made more crosses. I don't know why😅

Looking ahead, do you think you have created a solid foundation in terms of gameplay for EA Sports FC? Are you expecting some kind of mode-level expansion?

I can say that every year starts with so many creative ideas, and we have a very talented team who always try to come up with the best steps to further improve the gameplay and modes. I can speak for the gameplay team, because I'm introducing the gameplay team in particular, and I know that every year we bring additional things on the gameplay front, but we don't redefine the game. I feel like we have a very solid foundation built year after year. And every year, even with this year's features, we don't destroy the foundation and what we've built in the past – new features make it even better or give you additional tools. Think of this year's new Power Shot mechanic. It's not something that came into the game and removed something else, is an additional tool to further expand the arsenal of tools available to the player. Players can continue to use the precision shot, chip shot, skills to dribble past defenders or, if the opponents give them enough time to execute it, the Power Shot. So it's a matter of adding new instruments and variety. Basically, we want the game to always say yes to the user, so whatever we see during the weekends, watching games, all these moments that inspire us we take it with a “how can we bring that experience into the game?”. And I think we will never finish. The game of football evolves, there will always be some great references or something that happens over the weekends, and we will always try to recreate those special moments in the game. And that doesn't mean we have to change anything about our foundation – I think our foundation is strong. I think a big indicator of that is the amount of players enjoying the game every year.

For those who are still playing, are you still using Tactical Defending or Legacy? I've recently switched back to Legacy and man, what a relief it is. Yes, still having to micromanage at times, but a lot nicer to know my teammate will actually go in for the tackle or close the space down more aggressively.

Managed a stream last night where I tested Legacy defending for the first time in a while. Have to break bad/old habits of Tactical Defending where I give up too much space since R1 contain was so passive.

I just noticed that in my game the names above the players heads are gone after the latest patch. I have them en- and the name bar at the bottom of the screen disabled. But now there's nothing but the marker.

Hm, do you have HUD set to "Indicator" then Player Indicator set to "Player Name"?

I can say that every year starts with so many creative ideas, and we have a very talented team who always try to come up with new ideas, but then we all just say to ourselves, lads it's FUT, let's add nothing of any real substance, but instead focus on ways to turn more kids into gambling addicts with our suspect FUT gambling mechanics, hire a few psychologists to help really mess the kids up mentally and get them really addicted. Chat to a few Youtubers and get them to push the FUT packs out to kids and all the while praying everyone keeps buying the game and they keep ignoring the fact we are making BILLIONS by creating a terribly crooked game and consciously creating gambling addicts, WE'VE LEGALISED GAMBLING FOR CHILDREN".
I've edited the EA quote for you (above), it's a little more accurate now.

How do we live in a society that argues about faces, boots and pronouns, yet ignores, in fact supports and encourages a company profiting billions a year with a gambling game consciously aimed at kids, who rightly can't gamble at a casino or betting shops, because it's highly irresponsible and damaging to their impressionable brains, but they can be exposed to the exact same nasty dangerous gambling mechanics via FUT, bombarded by their fave Youtubers opening 1000 FUT packs and brainwashed by bright shiny adverts for FUT, cos that's OK.

The sooner there is a movement to boycott EA and go to the government to get them to remove the crooked gambling mechanics of FUT the better. This would then force EA to actually create a good game of football, as then they couldn't just rely on the money of FUT.

Yes, I haven't changed the settings since day one and I checked it yesterday. I tried changing it to name bar and this works but when changing it back to indicator, there's nothing. Not only in my career mode save but in other modes as well. Classic FIFA :BOP:

Edit: Seems I'm not the only one. https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/Player-Name-and-Indicator-Not-working/td-p/11915882

Well, isn't that what this setting is supposed to do?

Apart from that, I think that setting was somehow reset to the default value for me once when I played some skill games.
