FIFA 23 Discussion Thread (Console Versions)

Hey, here's a shock, I'm going to be negative! I made a little video just to try and show it's not just negativity for negativity's sake, but I'm just so shocked that this is the stuff they're putting in their TRAILERS. This isn't stuff from gameplay leaks, it's what they want everyone to see. So:

The gameplay looks disgusting. Sorry, can't be more delicate about it. The physics are cartoon-level, the AI is non-existent and the skating is no different. It looks fucking woeful unless you REALLY don't care if it looks or feels like football or not. The football moves like a marshmallow, for fucks sake.

The difficulty level might be lower, but if you play FIFA 22 on World Class, you see the exact same lack of midfield - you can blast through that chasm in a few passes, even on manual passing, never meeting any resistance. It's just basketball.

Plus, the features are straight from the "what do FUT players want" wishlist. More attribute boosts! Cool, my 17 year old Tranmere player will be better than Mbappé by the end of the season!

Said it before, but football games are dead, and only 1v1-me-bro eSports games exist in their place. It's a tragedy.

Well, let's hope they "keep it realistic & don't ruin it with patches" like so many people have already said to EA. lol.

I am not a FUT player and like the personality types and attributes idea. Question is just how it is balanced.

Maybe just maybe some should accept that there is different opinions and not everything you hate means other players who are into career modes also will hate or that it is just for FUT Players. Examples are highlights and the new Player Career which actual will get me playing Player Career mode again which I didn't in the last one.

Less gatekeeping, less toxicity and more acceptance of different opinions would help the football gaming community a lot.

Was quite intrigued by career mode, watched the trailer and turned it off halfway through. What the fuck is that player triangle about?

Whack yourself off in the shower after the match = 10 Maverick points
Whack the rest of the team off in the shower after the match = 10 Heartbeat points

Fuck off

I hope the actions you do as a player can also have negative consequences like losing faith of the coach or teammates. I always wanted player career to be a little more RPG like, similar to what NBA2K did. So hopefully there can be some interesting moments based one decisions I make.

It does fit the life of a modern footballer where everything you do is analyzed in the media, what you eat, what car you drive etc.

Yes people here are so toxic! Look on the bright side, you are basically getting two games in one: a football game and an ice hockey game. Can't wait to get this on the Switch!

Gameplay looks horrible, I'm also completely unhyped by the career new "features". Only thing that looks vaguely hopeful is the AI tactics thing, but again.. with that base I can't imagine being much interested anyway. CPU could pull a 5-5 Simeone style to keep the result and I bet zombie programmed defenders/mdfielders would still make it look like swiss cheese (assuming that they will enhace it at all this way.. they strangely talked about it only in offensive terms, would not be surprised if an AI adapting defensively would be marked as "unfun" by them and hence discarded)

Disappointed after watching the True Brits video. Really want something fresh otherwise its more pes 2021.

Done all the summer transfers but would like something new and exciting. Efootball has 9 teams for offline so fifa is my only option after seeing that video... Not so sure....

PRE-SEASON TOURNAMENT FORMAT

We’ve updated the structure of pre-season competitions to a more authentic format. Eight teams will play three matches each in order to get their campaign off to a good start. Only the winner of the tournament will be able to claim the prize money award that will help boost their transfer budget.

We’ve also changed the timing of the tournament, with matches taking place closer to the first games of the season. This way you can put your players’ hard earned sharpness to better use from the season opener

AHHHHHHHHHHH SMALL CLUBS DON'T PLAY PRE-SEASON FUCKING TOURNAMENTS, why don't the morons listen! How hard is it to for example when you're a lower tier team there's a pre-season menu: "you need to schedule 5 pre-season matches, these are the opponents available for each date". And then keep as is for the bigger clubs (and change the format when you get promoted to the top tier).

Yes! As someone who plays only with smaller clubs I wholeheartedly concur. Always played in massive, packed stadiums too.

Gameplay look like they had FUT idiots in plan from version 1.0.0.

Lets hope its begginer difficulty and sliders could make it playable at least.

There is no other option for us, or skip entire year when it comes to playing football games

Or continue with the Don pes 2021 modded. Patiently waiting on fifa 23, praying its good.

At about 37-38 seconds Kanté is at the heels of the attacker but deliberately slows down to allow him a more clear path to goal. It doesn't seem to have changed much since 22, where defenders will just kind of jog back instead of actually trying to stop your counter attack. But at least they added the much requested feature of being able to visit your injured team mate in the hospital. Must have been a rather reckless tackle too, to have the poor bugger in a hospital long enough for you to visit him.

One of those "revelations" that have a grain of truth (of the "no shit sherlock!" variety) but simultaneously mean nothing really. You don't have to be an insider to know that they're doing the same game every year for over 20 years with just a few months of dev time. I would be shocked if there is not old code in a case like this and progress is slow so I'm not sure what does this info is supposed to reveal? We've seen good games & bad games, it's up to their design choices.

We've known for a while that the legacy code has been built on for so long that it's caused major issues. Half the sliders don't work properly any more because of this - pass error, for example, doesn't result in more off-target passes, but instead results in really odd actions where players "scoop" the ball when kicking it. One tiny example.

There's also tons of really interesting code regarding the physics and AI from the days of FIFA 14-16 that you can see when modding all the modern games on PC, including 22, but all of it is overridden by the code built on top. Hence why pass accuracy is always so high, why the midfield doesn't do anything, etc...

The fundamentals are broken, and the new features placed on top attempt to hide it - but all the Hypermotion in the world won't change the fake physics (designed to ensure every action has a reward or punishment, rather than just being a case of "the speed of the ball means it bounces away from your attempted interception", for example).

However...

The implication that EAFC might be the time when they "start again"? I really don't think so. EA have said Hypermotion will be iterated on for the next ten years minimum, and I don't think it's easy to just lift that from one engine to another.

Plus, he says himself, FUT makes more money than any other franchise in gaming. They're a business, not a collection of artists wanting to make a masterpiece. They'd be taking a huge risk to "start again".

Worst case scenario, EAFC is FUT only. But I don't think they'll want the hate they'll receive for killing Career Mode (which will always have hundreds of bugs and the most ridiculous "new features" - like being able to make your player read a book to gain heart points, fucking LOL). I think they'll just continue to half-arse it and ignore every idiot (like me) who buys the game for it.

There's no hope left. Stop hoping, seriously. (Unless you love what's been shown and you love FIFA 22's gameplay in which case, good for you, enjoy, I'm truly jealous you can enjoy the game cos I'm fucking sick of being so disappointed.)

And I would add that the cpu stopped using the tactics system when they updated it for 19, and 4 years later it's back as a new feature, but that's because they don't give a fuck for offline, not because they had to work for 4 years on it because of their old code base.

That theyve been building on top of the old code base...

Ive seen things in ps5 fifa21 and even fifa 22 that I saw back in ps2 fifa.

By which I mean little moments of a player changing direction, or in the zig-zag dribbling, or the way they pass a ball with a weird toe poke, or certain shots and ball trajectories. It's like deja vu.

I remember seeing them on fifa trailers back when I was playing pes 5, or when I'd occasionally buy a fifa (mainly cos I spent a few years envying fifa turfs on ps2, so would occasionally buy the game to see if it had magically become good, which it never had).

There's a LOT of gameplay choices. Defence, Dribble, ultra agility etc.

So telling us "They wants the same as you", who's that guy is mocking seriously? I may thrust him about one part of the gameplay, but not the so called "base"...

Fifa 17 the first "Frosbite" got inertia and weight shift probably calculated automatically, i'm pretty sure of it. You couldn't move like a fly, no. It was one fundamental same as ball weight (even if there were bugs with the ball turning into a rocket all the pitch but it's not a choice there)
I don't have the game any more but i remember very well the basis, of what it should have been in the future.

Yes, there was bugs, it's kinda the PES 14 of Fifa (in terms of building, not quality) but it was promising.

What I also found laughable is that it's a winner take all tournament for prize money as if clubs are flying to America and Asia for a shot at some extra money lol.

Chris mentioned it but as soon as this guy said the game is being held back by the FIFA license I immediately checked out.

Think I'm done reading through this thread. If it plays like an evolution of Fifa 22, it'll be a good game. At least when you buy it, everything will be there. But I won't rant about Konami anymore. I've giving them half an hour of rants already

I dont have hate toward FUT guys, but I will call them what they are ....

Idiots who make fool of themself for views on youtube promoting kids gambling along the way.
Not sure I'd call them idiots given the bit of money they'll be earning for it.

That FIFA 23 tweet I did showing the skating and the chasms in midfield/defence - I've had two accounts message me in the last 24 hours asking if I'll promote their coin-buying service, one of them offering cash. No joke. That really shocked me, and obviously I have no interest in being paid to promote something I personally consider immoral to the point that it should be illegal. I wouldn't take their money.

Besides, everyone knows if you want the best deals on FIFA coins, you just go to www.bestfifacoins.com. Use the code "whingingchris" and get 5% off.

The only reason the FUT guys are even mentioned by anyone else is because this stupid fantasy version of an ice hockey/basketball hybrid that they've created with their dumb feedback, is the default gameplay for everyone else.

So basically, it's EA's fault. No one would care about anything they are saying or doing in their stupid casino mode if it didn't completely ruin the game for everyone else.
