FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

I’m pretty happy with the trail build.Mine seems ok not linking me back to eaplay. So I don’t know if that’s a ps5 thing.

I do have auto updates off.Going to see how things pan out interms of patches and whether gameplay negates before updating(although I’m hoping there more quality improvements).

If things do change for the worst,I will just pick up a disc copy further down the line at a more discounted price.

Because it’s next gen I’m hoping the small user base means ea won’t pander to the FUT crowd, stick to there guns and just let people adjust to the more simulated gameplay.
Is the main eSports and FUT crowd on PC?

I would imagine the bigger FUT user base is on Pc,PS4 and Xbox one and one X.Purely by the numbers and not everyone on next gen being football purists.Hence perhaps why ea can be a little more risky and how a more realistic game on the next gen wouldn’t effect card packs sales on the older platforms.

Maybe ea are taking esports seriously and want a good placeholder or marker for a more realistic competitive game going forward.

In my mind they should hold there guns. The FUT crowd will buy packs regardless and ea have a great opportunity here of mopping up a lot of disheartened pes fans looking for a viable alternative.

I really appreciate what I read.
I was considered as a martian when i said that FIFA 22 was brillant. But I'm not the only one right now.

The game is not perfect but the fun is there, We have to play with our brain to score goals and I love that!

Please EA, change only the bugs, because the core gameplay is very good !

The last FIFA I bought was the 16 edition. One of the selling point for me was that it was a next gen version at that time. Remember that this was in the infancy of the PS4( the game was released previously on PS3, but they made a next gen version for PS4).

Il say it was a somewhat enjoyable( but not totally satisfactory) experience. I do understand it’s one of the games of the series that is fondly remembered by FIFA players.

So it’s 2021 now, and we are again in the first months of life of a new generation of consoles( Ps5 in my case). And as in those first months of the PS4 life, i want a next generation football experience.

And truly only FIFA again offers that. I did tried the trial (payed one euro for that EA play thing, but did cancel immediately any further monthly payments). Off the pitch the game it’s truly fabulous, the presentation and production values are off the chart.

Graphically it’s a really pretty game too (although EA “cheats” in some parts, for exemple not every player on the game was given that really cool hair physics that some of the most famous players in the game have). As for the gameplay…it’s ok. I actually see some bits of PES in this years gameplay. But its still not there, but I will say they are moving in right direction ( it does feel more like a sim game this year).

I won’t buy the game for full price, but I’ll surely will pickup it up down road when it starts to get big discounts on PSN.

But the fact remains, FIFA today is really the only option on the market if you want to play a next gen football game. EA must be laughing hysterically with all this Efootball debacle…

I think my option will stick to PES 2021. I just tried, except animation and superb graphism, presentation...
It's really because both are football games but there's nothing in common with PES in every motions.
So don't worry, no comparison needed when i will gives my impression.

I will gives it a chance 3 days and send my personnal feeling about the game, then if i still "blocked" to play that game (too fast in "slow", physics not like IRL at all, goal to goal in every game i've done, no feeling with the ball, Defending? First time in my life i really can't defend and it's my strong point/without making fault as players moving too fast... But AI is good, Keeper are, dribbing system is too, i can tell the opposite... But sorry i feel the game is made for kids, without insulting you)

I can assure you, it's not bashing, i saw goal vids and it wasn't that bad (but not that super good : acceptable and very beautiful). I can send you a picture with me, my name and the Blu Ray in my hand in French.

I'm seriously devastated ATM by trying the game as it looks like. If it would look as good as it's good to play for me at least...
Please don't trow me tomatoes please if i like some games you don't (PES or whatever else) but for the moment, everything seems like the faster and dynamic in the bad way FIFA i ever player. I'm already lost and i fear to don't found any alternative that you can imagine how disappointed i am. I wasn't prepared to that. I would class that version very low in my top of FIFA games. So much that i don't even understand that guys like you who searching simulation are agreeing with the direction that Fifa go. I won't lie, i got really hard to understand you, or "why". Looks like i received another version.

But looks like it's not that i'm a PES fan and nothing else can satisfy me : more like an allergy to Fifa feeling and overall.

I will try the sliders. But no manual please, the players are already moving non stop to fast everywhere on the pitch that i can found my marker/point of reference...
Well. So no online for me i think.

@Richie i don't think you will like it sincerely. But you can try it 3 or 4 days with Amazon and re-send it by the post even if there's no more plastic on it. They said it's okay, no problem, i won't loose any penny. So try with the 10 euros or try the game like me 3-4 days.
My feeling may change after some hours and 2 days, i won't already throw it like a freesbee. It's not my final decision yet.
Sorry for my negative post. I would have LOVED to say the opposite.

Give it some more time for the sake of your own sanity.I came over from Pes21 and it took me a few days to adjust to the defending.Maybe your being a little harsh in regards to the fundamentals and that Pes21 does it better(but that’s subjective and a welcome opinion). You are coming over from a heavily scripted game, that’s very predefined. That also does a lot of the defensive work for you. It’s also very easy to just knock players off the ball and close down without much risk.Fifa22 does punish in patience and loss of shape.Over and over.

You do need to think about how you use each player and once you start leaking goals everything will become harder. The momentum shifts are very pronounced.Heads drop as does moral and touch.

I do have a manual bias so don’t no how much easier the game is to play assisted or whether it curtails some of the freedom of placement and touch.

You can’t expect to keep clean sheets all the time. The AI will constantly probe looking for a opening or weakness and it will punish any mistake or loose pass.If you let the cpu AI get its tail up.It’s definitely a case of keeping it simple, playing the high percentages and not imploding further and giving your self a bigger uphill task.Stamina and fatigue also plays in heavily. You feel it.Pace yourself and let the ball do all the work not your players.Your teamates off the ball will make great movements into space and advance runs(but again that’s dependant on your decision making and how motivated your team is).

Really thinking about getting the game on Stadia after all the positive comments I've read here. Seems like a good deal to buy the game and get Chromecast Ultra and Controller for free.

I've read the game is next-gen on Stadia, and some of you have said the game feels/looks similar to the PS5 version, but after viewing some videos on Youtube my perception is the game on Stadia does not look as good as on PS5. So my question is, for those that personally have tested both versions, is the game on Stadia really on par with PS5?

Thanks in advance!

I just tried it as I had the trial on the xbox Series S and got the stadia version. They look pretty much the same. I will try to run both at the same time to see if I see any difference but tbh I think it looks great, it might look a bit better on PS5 and Series X, but if you havent seen those I doubt you will think it looks bad.

Edit: I play on a 1080p TV

Why defending should be harder than attacking? And also you take only one of the thing i don't like.
No, i disagree about "heavily scripted". It's just a matter of pressing, pressing is not a "scripting" thing it's a choice of gameplay.
tackling is giving a balance with how easy it's to attack. Simple, and we all agree with that even at PES 2008 time, so after the great era of football game, but now it's the opposite.

But don't think defending is my biggest issue, it can be worked. It was just a mention of "one thing i don't like" but there's much much more than that.
Pass are too fast, pace is too fast, dribbling and movement are not respecting physics, etc. etc.
The game is even faster than FIFA 20. I can't believe it. I tried one day FIFA 21, and i feel it's in the same continuity. I tried FIFA 14 two year ago and it was pretty "normal", no exaggeration, pace, everything.

It's perhaps yes, a football game, but not at all a simulation of "human control". It's superhuman on too many things, and the dynamism even on slow is by far too fast in execution. No way a football match is looking like what i'm playing and having in front of my eyes right now.
Sorry but it just too fast in everything. That's my biggest issue. i don't know if it's my big screen too but laser pass are even more "laserish", and building from yourself or the CPU is way too fast.

I will continue after 4 games but it's not for me, i want something human not a Marvel game.
I know for someone it was the very last hope but it's the same for me you know. Just that the feeling of football, or just real sports with real physics is not there from me.
Will give a try again, but every game i feel like i'm forcing myself more and more.

Edit: but thanks for your help mate. I play football game yearly since Iss Pro Evolution so i can feel stuffs i will like and stuff i won't.
But it's not only a matter of taste, only Chris said it's way too fast. But in everything. I saw laser pass from 50 meters super strong/fast and the receiver without control to enchain with another pass like it was super easy building, i was litterally WTF

OK so, this EA play thing, it will give me discount on the price for Fifa 22 (and more titles I suppose) but I will be stuck with EA play as long as I want to have access to the games, right?

edit: I just found this

  • If your membership expires, any purchases you made with your member discount are yours to keep.
So I could theoretically have EA Play for one month and get the discount? Because it looks like I can get the first month now for 0.79 pounds.

And thats ok. Pes21 was not for me and I could write a bible of issues I had with it.
Not every game has to satisfy everyone.
But saying that its a marvel game is complete bullcrap.

No, it doesn't respect physics at all.
One super laser pass enchained with another pass with again another pass. It was superhuman. It's deniying reality. It's not even a matter of taste.
Physics are the first thing that define a sports game, and it's not respected.

You can wrote a bible, there's stuff i don't like neither on PES 2021, but the fundamental to me are much much more there than any Fifa. I'm now convinced with that version.

The super dribble feint video posted by Redhat is how i see the game.... Overally. Even settled slow... That's the worst.
PES 2021 was called by bullcrap names too you know. But you will say it's right.

I play a lot of both FIFA and PES. And FIFA 22 is technically light years ahead of PES 2021 it’s actually quite scary.

PES 2021 is just playing matches. And they’re dull as hell too. But I need more than that. In FIFA I’m managing the club and the team on and off of the pitch.

Each to their own of course. I find that FIFA has a steep learning curve and takes a few weeks to really gel with me.

And this age old consensus that “PES is simulation, FIFA is arcade” needs to die. It’s complete and utter BS made up by PES fanboys. PES has just been pushing buttons for years now. Laser guided, straight shots. Boring crap.

I´m really happy that EA finally improved switching the play crosses and crosses in general. The ball has so much more oomph and zip now. Switching the play reminds me of PES now, in a good way. It actually makes it a useful tactic.

This is on Xbox one (last gen) by the way, but I´m sure it´s even better in the PS5/series X version.

Well i just have to check and compare two matchs on YT from both games and the pace is completely fucked.
Didn't reach PES 2021 finger to me, in terms of pace logic and physics logic. Sorry. I know you don't like it but to me you're 100% wrong.
When passs are faster than shoots... Please, a little bit of common sense.

You don’t like it, you refuse to like it. Okay, that’s fine, noted. Now please stop going on endlessly about why. We don’t need to hear the inner workings of your mind and all the reasons why we shouldn’t like something.

Well, looking at the amount of fantasy movements and physics i would put it rather to Marvel than reality. We are not talking about "once in a lifetime" issues or bugs, it is fundamental gameplay design. Nowhere near what i would describe with words like NextGen or even simulation.

Exactly that. Get the discount, keep the game forever, even without an active EAplay subscription.

Cheers, looks like it would be mad not to do it!

Edit: Turns out that I can only get the 3.99 option on the PS5 as it wont allow my to buy the 0.79 option through my PC. Dick move, EA, but I'll do it anyway, they have some free stuff I would like to check out as well.

I don't refuse ffs. I try, and the more i try the more i get used and see things i don't like. But well, in my vision it's more you that convince it's a great game because there's no other alternative in next-gen.

I buyed the game. I gotted thrust. Now all i read here and thinked how it should have been (at least at FIFA 17 level in terms of inertia) is gone.
I'm just disappointed, and i just feel that i don't have the same vision of you about a football game. Reactivity isn't my priority, it's realism in movemement and pace between them. Same for building, i saw building way too fast in one touch that happens so rarely in football that people made video about it (well a bit slower it's still a game). But here they're doing this like it's normal. With averagere 75 overall teams.

I admit that dribbling is very well done, i mean you can control the ball in every possible position. That great.
But it's too fast. If physics pace was respected, it will be a super great thing. But it isn't.
I'm sorry, i don't wanted to talking trashy about the game you like, but i'm a member too and i got my own view. Well, i'm coming from Wearepes, and physics and time to build, construct, dribble, like in realitity was more important than responsiveness. We didn't grown with the same view of what a good fooball game should be i just think, different vision. Don't check too long. Same for Defending, first you said bad about "Goals" direction that it's bad, but for Fifa 22 it's okay, a paradox, but well.

Big chunk of Evo users split into two groups - pes crowd and fifa crowd.
Usually it means seeing all the flaws in one, while making up excuses for the other.
If you are on the fence and play both - most of the time you'll end up arguing with both.
Both games went downhill from 16/17 onwards, disregarding AI and focusing purely on User Vs User gameplay.
AI was dumbed down, AI individuality was forgotten, all AI teams started playing using the same, simplified code and patterns.

And while Pes is basically dead as a Dodo now - Fifa, after dreadful '21, made a lot of changes and is heading in good direction. Its not perfect, by any means, but comparing to F21 its a huge improvement. And comparing to eFootball... well...

I know you both prefer Pes21.
Heavily modded, I shall add, coz base version is fucking dreadful. Quite often both of you forget that little detail when arguing with people how amazing this game is.
We could spend another week here discussing which one do we think represent football better and at the end of the day we will be at the same place that we started.

I have played few matches with Chris on Full Manual, slow speed and it was the most enjoyable blend of fun and sim I have ever experienced online.
It was even better than F16 online, as F16 had to be tweaked with sliders and we couldnt do that online.
Here - even default sliders were really nice to play.

So lets just agree to disagree and end this conversation.

There is a whole, giant thread about Fifa vs Pes where you can fullfill your desire to discuss about it. Here people would love to read about the game itself without this silly battles.
I answered only talking about Fifa. It's not me who came up with PES 2021 on the table with comparison. Two did it. I just said that i will stick to it instead. I didn't really start

Now, i give my arguments. You can verify yourself.

Walk away. Get on with your life!
Sorry, i said what i thinked really. I've read ton of shit about some older Koinami game, about script without posting a single video regarding that, when you founded ton of it on Fifa... I never said nothing about it, i thinked "yes probably, it's scripted. I would like to see it but weirdly i don't see ball deflections etc."

To me "better than Fifa 21" doesn't mean nothing. I hated FIFA 20 who was better, and FIFA 19 too.
To me, PES is better since PES 2017 to 2021, but some think the opposite; reviews say what i say. It was so obvious than i didn't thinked than a community thinked to opposite to be honest.
Just for the AI. I feel more challenge, midfield and physics from a game to another, without even manual playing or put it on slow, that's all. More contacts etc.
But Fifa got more "contexts", that's sure, but not usefull, like feint serve less in one game to pass an opponent than in the other. That's all.
Well enough with this discussion. I tried, i will retry with sliders because it's completely different to what you have defined about the game, except what Chris Davies said more or less.

I've played over 1200 hours of pes21 over lockdown (not proud of the fact!) and I absolutely love that game.

However, this is the most fun I've had on a Fifa game in years. I think Fifa 21 was the worst Fifa yet, so this is a pleasant surprise so far.

I'm playing FUMA on ps5. World class with OS sliders on normal game speed. I love how rubbish I am, if that makes sense. You no longer get rewarded for going gung-ho, you instead get rewarded for going back, and building up play, switching play etc.

Back in the day I was in the top 5 in the world for full manual players (not that there were loads of us back then) and this does play a lovely game on full manual controls. First time passes are spot on.

As for the net physics, the game is worth the money for those alone. Absolute perfection. I'm just so glad and pleasantly surprised that EA have gone this way with the game. Like everyone else, here's hoping they don't ruin it.

I scored a goal before which made me jump out of my seat. Not had that on Fifa for a very long time.
