FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

Those patch notes are from Bizarro World. I should boot up the beta for shits and giggles, but a man can only take so much.

EA are building and building on the top of their code, and the base has gone from "cracks starting to show" to "crumbling to bits".
)

But you now have "Volta Arcade", categorically the worst thing I've ever seen (but it's getting a lot of love).

You just can't balance all of this stuff in one title. If you prioritise one (i.e. FUT) and bolt everything else onto the same gameplay model, it's going to be shit.

Especially when priority #2, after FUT, are these yearly additions like "Volta Arcade" because of the microtransaction potential.

Even the ball physics are optimised for competitive play. Passes are heat-seeking missiles that defenders can't stop, but shots react like a bag of sand, or a balloon in slow-motion (in the first bit of the video above, you can see this).

I just can't believe how bad this game is.

I can't believe what we are seeing.
They haven't got time to do a good and optimized PC port, but they have time to do that sh**

Remember that presentation video with players on the pitch ,think they were mo-cap ,and the q&a with developers , explaining hypermotion etc?
And this is the result?
(From videos but anyway)

Played a few gameson World Class. For me id say its improved a fair bit. Not amazing but certainly better than what it was. Defenders defo aint quite so dumb and my LB tracked a run until i took control of him which amazed me at the time. Also the couple of games i played i felt it was more random with more turnovers than usual and the AI team seemed to get more players behind the ball.

I also feel different stadiums completely alter the gameplay. Playing at the London stadium the game is zoomed out to perfection and the speed of the game feels great even on normal but play a game at Anfield the camera changes for some reason and is alot lower and zoomed in quite a bit more which results in rapid speed.

Whats the reasoning behind some stadiums having a great camera and others far to close to the pitch even though the settings are the same?

To match tv broadcast camera angles.

If EA have read that feedback on the beta forums regarding defending and come up with this response then I don't think there is any hope that offline/simulation gamers get a game that they want any time soon

EA are building and building on the top of their code, and the base has gone from "cracks starting to show" to "crumbling to bits".

There are so many in-gameplay systems fighting each other, and so many shortcuts (like "defensive awareness" being the only stat that makes a defender be a decent defender) that the game is more broken than it's ever been.

On top of that, not only are EA making one gameplay model (and crucially, one AI model) for:

Kick Off (inc. "House Rules")
Manager Career
Player Career
FUT
Online Seasons
Pro Clubs
Volta (inc. Futsal)
Skill Games

(Let alone co-op versions of those modes, and "competitor mode" offline, and "default" boosted or "classic" attributes...

...AND tactics vs player ability, which is simply overriden by "tiki-taka for all", AND manual pass/shot options having no impact on AI play)

But you now have "Volta Arcade", categorically the worst thing I've ever seen (but it's getting a lot of love).

That's,.. I don't know, I don't even have the proper words for that video  , it is probably the most repulsive and off-putting thing I've seen from a Fifa or a Pes since I started playing football games. First time I'm starting to consider if that's still worth looking at football game news at all. If people do really like this stuff more than a proper sim then I'll have to accept it's just time to pack things and move on.

Just a question about the Beta : i remember on the older beta than there were some different Beta version number XX.
Is it the same on FIFA 22? Didn't read a new beta code version. Well i don't hope for a super big change lol far by that, it's just a question : Fifa 22 Beta will be (or as already been, don't know) updated?

@Madmac79 i get you. those 3 or 4 gif and the cherry on the cake with that vid... I gotted the same feeling.
I just got hard to believe how it could be so negative. And how (someone talked about old 8-16 bits games) defenders are so passive.
Even in Normal difficulty, on any old games i replayed, the hardest thing was to place a shoot. Well, Keeper and shoots were probably harder to program at the time, so defenders where more involved in the game... But i talk in normal difficulty, it still was hard on for example, Super Soccer Champ or Super Sidedekicks (a bit less), also Tecmo World Cup any version on Master System was a good example.

Beta has been updated yesterday morning I have made 3 games.

IA is stronger, more punitive and have a better defense. On the log, they said more space but it's not the case. I have made a United vs Liverpool, and on World class, wow wow wow, very hard too shoot. GK seems less stronger too.

But i prefer testing it gain to see real difference with the first version. All data of career mode and settings are corrupted so I have to restart a career...

Agree with this.

Played 2 games on world class last night and kept two clean sheets. My AI defenders seemed more responsive and the CPU passing wasn't as accurate.

Small sample but it seems they've made positive changes for us. Only time will tell though.

Yes EA has changed a lot of things and FIFA 22 is better with this patch. The lack of faults is always there but the global gameplay is far better.

Defense is the Key : each game I have now 3-4 occasions, before it was minimum 10! I confirm there is less space, marking is better and more agressive. I don't know if with default sliders it's the same.

GK are more human. They always make greats stops but you can beat them if you play good.
Yesterday evening, game speed was too high, this morning is perfect, always with my personnal sliders.

The game is more physic and AI finds clever passes and shoot angles it didn't do before that.

I haven't win one of my 9 matchs! I love that.
I don't think my level has disappeared, something has changed on AI behavour. Not shitted, but clever. AI changes wings more often with nice ball physics with curved.

I have tried to pass by the wings with Sancho but defenders are really good positionning. Speed is not the solution to make a hole in the defense.

There still having some skating, but less than before the patch.

You can now skiping easily all the presentation before the match.

That my first thoughts of the update.
I didn't go to the beta forum to read their reactions. I will do it later mates👍

Édit : same impressions on beta forum : crap and speedy yesterday evening, more balanced today.

The oppisite of their beta patch notes and has defo made the game better. Although the high through balls defo got nerfed which was a shame as they were great and very PES.

This to me feels like the best Fifa in years though while still not great but worth a buy since nothing else. Right now its a 7/10 game and i Fifa for me has been no where near a 7/10 in the last 6 or 7 years maybe more.

Do you think this fifa as for now is even better than fifa 16 or 19 ?

After all we saw on videos it is hard to believe but thanks to your post I still have some hopes…

Didnt enjoy any Fifa for a long time. Its not amazing but at least the beta is enjoyable for alot of it. If they keep improving the user AI it will be a winner and easily the best Fifa for as long as i can remember.

Patch day 1 will destroy everything 🤣

Thank you for the videos !

Can you tell us what do you think about the game as for now with the update and sliders ?

It looks like there is some potential with this game and if they only could put even more aggression, better marking, better closing down the player, more active midfield in every way and make sure that all these are making the game harder to create a good chance to take a shoot and harder to broke the defensive line it would be great.

Thank you for the effort !

I don't play with slider, i gotted too many bad experience in terms of overall feeling let's say "weird" in the past like player moving in slow mo.
But offline, i like Semi, a bit less manual there's a thousand debate about it and i don't want to said the same stuff for the 100000 time (just don't found it realistic, perhaps fun but vs another human playing the same config. Not vs the CPU)

Just want to see a vanilla game, in high difficulty, if it's challenging or not, if defense means something. But like always thanks for sharing, that's not my point.
It's only that i don't think to see it or try it before the pass (well i don't even want to buy it honestly lol). I will try demo but just for the graphics and atmosphere on NG. I don't play demo since FIFA 18 as it has never, even on PS3 era, as been representative of the full game + those 6 minutes matchs it's a no.

This looks much better than all beta videos on youtube. Keeping in mind that it was zoomed to hide username watermark, that means that game from far distance is even slower and smoother. Thanks!
I confirm that since the update, it looks like this with some ajustments in the sliders.
For me, it's a big step on the right direction, matchs are more enjoyable, more fun because it's more difficult to break the lines!
I have made some matchs on FIFA 21 nextgen and you see that midfields go back on FIFA 22 and didn't on FIFA 21.
Crosses with the new ball physic are more realist.

I think you will never buy a FIFA anymore because vanilla game is not for us, fan of simulation.
Speed will always to high, ping pong passes too, shoot always on target, etc... To enjoy the game, you have to play with sliders. That the point.
On semi, with little adjustements, I think you will enjoy it, seriously.

Well, i'm a fan of action-football... But it's what we call simulation.
Balanced game, with players keeping physics. As i think @Madmac79 explained the definition.
I don't need super simulation. Thanks for the answer mate. Let's say to me, that FIFA 11 and 14 were more or less Simulation. FIFA 16 was fun, and balanced, a bit less simution in terms of phyiscs (ball and players) but good enought to take pleasure for me. Same for 17, even with some flaws due to the Frosbite transitions, i prefers it than 18 to 21, who should have been normally improved. But no.

I've selling it with my normal PS4 to get a PS4 pro (i was more on PES 17 at the time, it was like a comeback to me) and the guy was a Fifa fan so.
But i still got the 16. Unfortunately : my PC slow down while i'm running it, so i don't imagine with mods...
My dream is to get FIFA 11 PS360 version. With all cutscenes etc. and atmospheres stuffs who wasn't on PC, very enjoyable game. FIFA 14 i got with mods, running perfectly on high setting yes.

FIFA 22... Let's say i'm hoping that they did like some years ago : one version a bit more offensive oriented, the one after more balanced (for FIFA 23)
As i don't dislike Fifa : it was my most played game on PS3 to be honest, every version (the 10 was fantastic with the very first with 360 movement dribbling... But i don't know : until the end, they never corrected that flaw, like if it was impossible. Online resulted on 4-6 with 3 lob on one side, 5 on the other, sad. We gotted to wait the 11 to get all fixed.

I will follow your advice, but the main reason i don't like FIFA, is the feeling of everything i do, so in fact, physics, and dribbling. I want to feel heavyness and harsh contact. Or shooting an heavy shoot, not a straight fast shoot instead if you know what i mean. Slowing down a player dribbling won't change the inertia... I tried before. No result. Frosbite, and Ignite wasn't my cup of tea (Ignite was a mix, PS3.5 but very well managed a bit like PES 2013 and 2011 with the PS2.5 engine)
