FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

After more than 30 games, i can say that the ball physics is the best ı've ever seen.
Are you on last-gen or new-gen? Cos that FUT clip shows that, on last-gen, the ball is glued to a player's feet. If anything I'd say they look worse...

Different story on new-gen though. Definitely better, but you still have soft headers that travel half the length of the pitch. It's not "real ball physics" so much as "ball physics to please competitive players but with tweaks to make it a bit less ping-pongy". IMO.

FIFA 22 is certainly got some decent improvements but I stand by my belief I’ve had for a while that the FIFA franchise needs to move away from the frostbite engine.
This is the fundamental issue with FIFA - the game will never be worth playing again until it moves to a new engine.

Frostbite has been terrible for FIFA since day 1.

I am playing on my Series X, next gen version.

Look how deep they are defending at 0:40. That has to be bugged surely

It's a shame because some of the animation and physics tech on next-gen is getting into the realm of what you dreamed of 10-15 years ago, but it's just lacking that respect of the fundamentals due to the ever-present need to cater to the ADD-riddled FUT wankers. The sad thing is you know they are probably capable of it

I wouldn't say the new-gen ball physics are amazing.

On the pass, the ball pings like a pinball. No way does that light contact produce so much power.

On the shot, it's like the ball is suddenly twice as heavy.

They're like two different balls!

Hope so. Happens every game.

And the point someone made earlier about it being like table football in the sense that once you pass a line of pressure/defence is absolutely spot on.

Combine both issues and you can get shots away from just inside the area at will.

Lots of weird stuff (ass) in that clip ,don't know if it's me ,but it looks like the pass accelerates around halfway ?

To me, it looks like quite a firmly hit spinning roulette backheeler and its accuracy is very precise, just like they always are in real life. Hopefully all division 4 players can regularly pull this off.

Good to see the CB back off towards the penalty spot rather than close down the shot. Don't you just hate it when defenders get in the way of shooting opportunities?

Jesus I didnt even notice that CB until you pointed that out.. I watched it on the loop trying to find any explanation to why he would do that..
And the only thing I see is that the whole line is moving backwards, which brings us back to players chained together.
Which is a worrying sign, coz this new "organic" line movement might actually bring more bad than good here, if players are being pulled along with the line.

Yeah, looks like two different ball. And the CB closer to the player at the middle completely stop playing and even step back when he receive the pass, and he looks like "hold on, i want to see him shooting, shooting is cool. Wait, one step back: i want to see it in a better angle"

Worth remembering that "AI players will now make up to six times more decisions per second than in FIFA 21". Obviously all that thinking has affected him as he's quite lost in his thoughts to do something, so he just stands in line doing nothing, which is something so complex no old-gen hardware can handle.

I fact, you're all wrong at the CB was right :
He makes the right decision to not loose time and energy, 6 times smarter than a casual defender. He calculated the probability that the guy will shoot over the goal was around 76.8% and the best thing to do was to stop playing.

Just one last thing weird on the gif : the position the CF takes before receiving the goal. It's superficial, but the way he turn back to the goal very soon, with a "no word to qualifiy it" movement, is pretty strange. Just saying, like he didn't waited the trajectory and already positionned to shoot way in advance.

Not that important neither but there was a thing that bugged me about the CF and i just found more or less what's looked a bit unnatural.

Well the thing is, i got a PS3, and i will gives the game his chance. I will follow the advice (thanks for that) to gets a 10 euros for one month EA Access.
Then, as i won't like it at the start probably thanks for here to share and point out things i didn't saw, as watching a full video of a football game bores me at a point... And also good things too.
But with experience : we watch 2 minutes or less of the game and we already understand the direction / and even the feeling. It wasn't like in the past were everyone were wrong when we gotted the game, controller in hands. 15-20 years of experience, and let's say PES 2008/FIFA 08 to 21-22... We analysed everything in long and large, we can even "resent" how it will feel when we will play, one thing impossible 10 years ago, PS3 era.

So, whatever we said... I will buy it, and many here will. Just because we want to try the first PS5 football game, bad or not.
But i won't buy it at lauch, probably some months later : no prob as i got a pile of PS4 games i decided to finish, boosted with PS5, i didn't played yet and which are considered as practically top games of the console... Like GOW PS4, Sekiro, and Nioh 2 (also the 1st, but i'me practically at the end, didn't make dlc but well).
Ah yes, i got also the first Doom, and Tekken 7, for the nostalgia (also very good rated games, and Doom feels really cool as is looking like the first on PSX in terms of atmosphere)
But i won't invest myself like a fool for those games. Exceptionnally, i will only make the story mode. Even if i think that Fighting games are the funniest games to play online, FPS it really depends the mode (i prefers to play solo than in group, with everyone got a task etc. like in Battefield etc.)

So what you refers about ball physics is the sensations when you shoot, pass, dribble? Because it's just one part of the "ball physics" feeling, but not what we're talking about : the balls flows logic etc.
Am i wrong? As you're talking about "feeling" you can feel the ball when you're not in contact with. Just a question, not a trapp bro. I respect your opinion.

Wow. Those new-gen ball physics.

(Sorry, excuse the sarcasm. I'm just so sad to see this.)

Well, it's still a beta, and online. Bugs like that happens sometimes. But yes, i'm pretty sure if we capture the whole game at third person, i'm sure we'll probably see many type of bugs / less weird and obviously visible at the first sight / like that.
On any mode, off or online.

... Or the player thinked 6 times to make a feint, thanks to his vaccine super power he gained, he decided to use his the skill he gained "can pass trough things"

Well, YT vids even directly captured with a tool accelerate a bit the game, we knows it.
Perhaps since the time Youtube rectified it, or the new capturing tools, i don't know..

But everytime we told "it's way too fast"... It was just lesser than on vids, and "way too fast" became "just too fast"

Edit: personnally i can even see on slow mo cutscenes that passing is super fast. Pass are like very powerfull but the control is normal.
I know you should use tricks to makes a game balanced, but sometimes, it's a bit too... Caricatural.

Example around 2min10. It's on slow motion. Looks at the ball flow.

Well first impressions of the game on legendary:-

Easier to score than a brothel with £1000 in your pocket.
Defender has been automated even more in the sense of you control the player but CPU will block a lot more for you.
Keepers are the worse, I have ever seen in a football game.
When you think FIFA 21 was the absolute low of the series they release this absolute pile of shit.. Least the BETA of 21 was actually good.
This is the final nail in the coffin for me when it comes to FIFA and I will be cancelling my pre-order and getting a refund.
FIFA just isn't football anymore, it has turned into a basketball game, where if you don't score on every attack you come away severely disappointed.

I thought the small clips of gameplay looked good on the promo vids over the past few weeks, looked slower more considered actually thought EA have made a good game again finally... How wrong could i of been.

The game is so fast its unreal and thats on slow setting. Normal is just insanely rapid.

One thing i love is the shooting it feels very good 7 times out of 10 and the presentation is outstanding but everything else is really bad. Keepers awful, Defence AI awful, Midfielders AI awful, animations generally awful, awful inertia, poor graphics, ball physics really strange alot of the time.

This is a 5/10 or 6/10 game.

Football games are dead now... Hopefully Sociable Soccer can be fun when it drops.

You know what this reminds me?

Try not to look at the ball carrier, just focus on defending team, their midfield and defense.

It really looks like that, doesnt it? The lines are moving like they were chained together, but once you are pass them, thats it. Next line.

I didnt come here to slag it off, in fact - im still hopeful that we can at least get more out of this than F21.
But from development point of view - they should have noticed that it looks very artificial. Its Either-Or. Either you are creating a game with natural football flow AND pressing, or you leave the traffic cones, jogging around, waiting for someone to switch to them.
You cant have moving lines without pressing and tracking, coz it looks ridiculous..

Chain gang defences were in pes 10, backing off virtually in a straight line. Incredible that we may be back there.

At least pes10 had defensive pressure. You couldn't actually break through those defences at times.

You are always likely to get bugs/glitches when systems change, especially around physics/animations, and even more so when there is any procedural/AI/emergent factors involved. In fact, I would say if you aren't seeing at least a few major bugs in a new game then the dev team isn't pushing hard enough. That kind of stuff doesn't concern me, what concerns me is that when the developers talk about realism and authenticity what they really mean is realism and authenticity up until the point where any given realistic or authentic feature might make a FUT player complain, which just so happens to be most of the things we care about. It's a shame because there are a lot of moments like this that look awesome, and must have been really hard to get the physics right for, but if the realism is only superficial then the only value in it is letting the kind of idiots who complain on Twitter that they have to think like a manager to score a goal feel like they are playing a "realistic" game as they bang easy goals in all day.
