FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

Pes 5 may be old but as already said to death still does things (midfield play, abundance of fouls, defenders and midfielders generally moving with a criteria) that this Fifa 22 completely neglects. For me it's not even Pes 5 (thank God we can still play it) the point, I've squeezed excellent fun from modern Fifa until at least defenders and midfielders did their job, but the lack of all that stuff combined is just too much. Once the novelty effect from the visuals and the surroundings decrese as it's normal and I'm left with all that neglected substance on field, there is no way for me to enjoy it, no matter how beautifully it looks or moves.

I am similar to Mikhail in that I struggle to see the issue here with expecting Decent AI at harder difficulty levels and not having to change other aspects of the gameplay myself to make it play in a decent way?

I didn't have to do that back in the days of ISS Deluxe on SNES? I picked my Difficulty Level, played, sucked, lost, played again until I started to get the hang of it.

Same with ISS Pro Evo on PS1, When I first did a Master League even on NORMAL difficulty... I struggled because the AI seemed so damn good. I did eventually up it to Hard difficulty and the game was fantastic. I didn't have to worry about Manual this or that or sliders to nerf the AI in this Area and then try and make them stronger in this other area to make up for Poor AI.

Again PES during its PS2 hey day was hard as balls on its top level but once you began to get to grips with the game it felt balanced and I didn't have to mess about tweaking things, I played the game exactly how Konami shipped it out.

In the past I have tried Matt's sliders and 1stly would like to say I appreciate someone taking the time to play the game and tweak to try and help but for me it caused other issues in other aspects of the gameplay and the game just felt odd.

It should also depend the way the team play, i don't want neither a "playing style change". You neither i suppose. But a divided difficulty.
There's already divided level in ML, for transfers, money, and at least 4 or 5 stuffs. Why not in game?
Well, whatever, offline will still as we know on FIFA/Pefootball, as it's not their priority even if EA tells they "listen". Not for all unfortunately.

Edit: one thing is sure : 360 degree movement with the ball has completely changed the football games, in every area. Programming defending was a thousand time easier than what we got now, plus the pitch was far smaller / in both game. Now, they both have the regular size. And i don't talk that they've added new way to dribble, it's not a chess system game anymore with stats were practically defined physics too.

8-16 directionnal are far easier to manage, direction are far more predefined than now.

Too many teams have the same tactics again so not much variety.

And if you play on drop back or with low depth settings then your defence just runs back to the six yard box too early playing everyone onside.

Which is compounded further by central midfielders not tracking back either. Wasn't there a video specifically showing off the improved defensive cohesion? I'm not seeing it unfortunately.

See the Retro PES thread, and the FIFA 16 thread. You're so wrong. We aren't just saying this - we're doing it, playing PES 5 / FIFA 16 to get the feel of a midfield battle again, to GRIND out a result in a game with 3-4 shots each (if you're lucky).

A) Why play modern games then? In the hope that they'll ever take football gameplay seriously again, and we can play with some new features.

B) Does playing on manual add that "grind"? Well, does the AI start misplacing passes along with you? And/or does it make a midfield turn from "totally passive" to "actually fights for possession" out of nowhere? It's not fixing anything, it's "papering over the cracks".

I honestly believe a single change would have a HUGE impact for assisted and manual players; just give us the option (offline) to turn on AI defending. Suddenly you'll have less space to work with, and you'll have to make the right pass decision in order to not give the ball away (and not just because it's a manual pass but because of the pass decision you've made). Plus, more contact between players means more fouls. Don't want that? Turn it back off.

Speaking of fouls - your tip on how to get them (by changing the difficulty)... Does that impact fouls *you* commit too?

Because in my experience, neither the user NOR the AI are committing fouls, because the players never get close to each other - due to all the space - and because tackle attributes have no impact on how "cleanly" you win the ball. Changing difficulty can't magically fix all of that.

Four posts in a row (!) to say, essentially, "you're playing the game wrong" - by playing the game as EA intend us all to play it (they're not secretly working on full-manual as a priority, and hoping we'll all play it that way)... It isn't a stretch to see it that way...
Mate I’ve been frequenting these boards forever since the ps2 days and I don’t think I’ve ever seen you positive about any of the football games. They just can’t give you the free form randomness the real sport gives

yes they should be better. Yes they should move away from the online crowd.

buy you know what? They won’t. We are one game down this year and it looks like fifa or bust. So it’s about making the best of it.

regarding pes 5 it’s outdated whether people play it or not. It doesn’t stand up to the expectations of standards people expect from the hardware they own.

im not defending ea or fifa it’s isn’t that great. It’s the best of what we have right now of that or nothing and I was attempting to help those who are struggling.

but never mind.

I really hope that everyone who saw this and have beta access are also going to that forum and giving it a "like", or adding to it.
This is our shot, right there. All we can do is keep persisting on pushing constructive feedback like this.
It might seem like a hopeless case, but if we dont support official appeals like the one above - we cant blame EA for not noticing this
Hi folks!
I have a bêta code for career mode and a FUMA players and i can test it tomorrow on Xbox Series X, because i'm on holidays by now.
I will react on the official beta forum and here if you want.

THE FOLLOWING LINK WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU HAVE BEEN SENT THE BETA AND LOG INTO YOUR EA ACCOUNT.

Someone has posted on the beta forum about the issues of there being a completely passive midfield, no tracking back, no fouls etc.

IF YOU'RE ON THE BETA and you agree, please give it a "like" (or XP as they call it there). The link:

Brief summary of what it says:

There's barely any fouls, ever. By you or the AI. There's no defending in the midfield (no tracking back, no working second-man press) so no build-up play is needed - which is made worse by the fact that you and the AI never really misplace a pass, despite how bad your pass choice is, or how bad the teams are.

Because of this, there are tons of shots per game and yet rather than make chance creation harder, they've just made AI blocks massively OP. You get massively high xG every match, with those blocks being the only way that the score stays low (and not even that low). See screenshot.

Don’t just like this but make your own comment about lack of fouls and flood the Beta Boards

Just seen this and its spot on.

What makes all of this so much worse is the fact they used this video to promote the improvements:

Well at least I won't be tempted to buy a next-gen console

Clipped from here (the video is pure AIDS fyi)

Look at the way the players move. It's so unnatural.

HOW ON EARTH do these people enjoy this shit?! It boggles the mind. The stupid tricks and general gameplay is just all so unrealistic - why do EA think the game needs to be this way?

So depressing.

Graphics kinda looks ass ngl.

Like are they even trying anymore?

Fifa 11, 15 had responsive player movements too and there the animations didn't look as bad as the footages I'm seeing. Player LOD during gameplay camera is ass too, modded fifa 16 lods from gameplay camera looks so much more detailed.

Makes you wonder why they bother investing in new technology, machine learning, etc only to produce a game that seems to use the same approach as FIFA98, with the ball glued to the players foot. Once again a video clip that looks more like Sensi-Soccer than a real football match.

Just saw the first gif/vid, and wow, i didn't see that type of arcade dribbling since like Fifa PS1.
Absolutely no inertia, and that guy look to got 250/99 on Dribbling and Speed (related to Dribbling Speed), why?
I don't get it. The most around 10 seconds more. dissuasive vid i ever saw, WTF :LMAO:
Who's the player with super power from the vid btw? Even in ball recuperation he's super strong

The second vid was removed, also the one posted by @Sovereign Hope

Yes the video was taken down as expected but it seems like the game is more arcedy than fifa21? Or is it just me that felt that after watching people play the beta

You sure IT was next gen consoles ver?
Even NOT next-gen to be that easy to dribble and take the loss ball with that player at super speed...
Isn't a gameplay choice? What next-gen will change about a choice? Looks at the double tap super explosive run, don't know how to call it but it's a gameplay choice.
Well like i said, and we sayed in Wearepes : everytime EA introduce a new feature in Fifa, it's always a bit messing up the gameplay, like the first tactical defending or the first "ball protection" feature who was way too effective or buggy. The first collision system on i don't remember which PS3 game caused some bugs etc.
Well they try, it's good, but when you're working in your own bubble, you don't see what's the issue. You need many point of view from people/others professional tester to told them what's wrong. I understand, it's not easy to see your own flaws when you conceive something.
Even if it's sometimes super obvious.

This is their hyper motion next gen stuff they bragged about and said pc cant handle.

This is the shit result we got xD

Fifa 98, 99 has better looking dribbling than this.

Fifa 06 also looked more believable than this mess.

That's it in a nutshell!

I personally love the freedom of 360 degree movement and especially when combined with manual passing.

But it must make the programming of the AI exponentially more difficult.

You know what this reminds me?

Try not to look at the ball carrier, just focus on defending team, their midfield and defense.

It really looks like that, doesnt it? The lines are moving like they were chained together, but once you are pass them, thats it. Next line.

I didnt come here to slag it off, in fact - im still hopeful that we can at least get more out of this than F21.
But from development point of view - they should have noticed that it looks very artificial. Its Either-Or. Either you are creating a game with natural football flow AND pressing, or you leave the traffic cones, jogging around, waiting for someone to switch to them.
You cant have moving lines without pressing and tracking, coz it looks ridiculous..

You know what this reminds me?

This is a better balanced game though. In Fifa the attacking team can move freely between the lines and take advantage of the free space there. Otherwise our little 12 yo FUT world champion can't figure out how to create space. Edit: He may even have to revert to crosses and long shots and these are unacceptable ways to score for some reason. I wonder if there're long shot goals in the beta, or from random headers/crosses.
