FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

Nope, the most pessimistic ever, the most negative ever, is Stewart Robson, at least they haven't added him to Fifa, oh, wait...

https://www.fourfourtwo.com/feature...son-are-announced-as-commentators-in-the-game
He sounds just enough like a young Trevor Brooking that I can pretend I'm listening to PES commentary from the glory years...

Seems to be a really confusing situation with the commentary - have Derek Rae and Lee Dixon gone, or are they just supplemented by the new guys? We know Alex Scott is "pitchside commentator" (replacing Alan McInally).

Gen 4 (Xbox One/PS4/PC)

There's a significant goalkeeper refresh that includes an animation refresh for the goalkeepers. EA promises more reliable saves, too. Playing on PS5, I found the keepers to be harder to beat than in FIFA 21, with some new animations for saves and for collapsing on the ball after a save. They seem less likely to parry a shot into the path of an onrushing opponent, at least.

Rivera also said FIFA 22 has "true ball physics" across last and current-gen, which affects ball trajectory. Certainly shifting the ball to the side of the pitch feels more viable, and lofted passes tend to find a teammate in space. You can get that wonderful Ronaldinho driven pass from inside to the outside, too.

There's a new explosive sprint feature across both versions of the game. This explosive sprint affects the rate at which the player accelerates when you press sprint forward in a straight line (it doesn't work if you try to go backwards or to the side). The idea is you will feel this explosive sprint with more heft at the start as the player quickly accelerates. This occurs with or without the ball, but there is a downside: it's easier to overshoot, so you need to time the sprint well.
There are new attacking tactics across the board. Rivera mentioned you can now select your attacking tactics separate from your offensive half and your defensive half. You can, for example, go for possession in your own half and go to direct passing in the opposition's half.

There are four new skill moves this year: the scoop turn fake; the four touch skill (important for when you're on the sideline); the skilled bridge; and the first time spin. There are first time skill moves, too. 90 percent of the skill moves can be used to control the ball, Rivera said. You can't use skill moves that don't touch the ball for this, obviously, nor the skill bridge.

And there are many more stats to dig into, including the popular expected goals stat. You get more detailed information about your shots, your passing, where passing is made, which positions your players are taking, etc.

And finally, EA Sports is trying to address the problem of tackling and not getting the ball back, which has been an issue in prior FIFA games. Rivera also briefly touched on other changes designed to improve "gameplay fairness". He said EA Sports has "addressed community call-outs across fundamental competitive balance". What does this mean, exactly? One example is EA is expanding enforced manual headers to more settings. There are changes to blocks and physicality of players, too.

Lee Dixon is the most pessimistic guy ever "awful shot" when hitting a 30 m screamer crossbar and out.
At least us who play 3-5-2 now never have to hear him tell us how he struggled in a 3-5-2 under Bruce Rioch at the start of every single match

Ha ha ,that bugs me every time.
Think he even complain on 3-4-3.
Or Alan Smith "two blocks of four and two up front...like it use to be"

im so glad that you post all the news and stuff... thanks you! :APPLAUD:

could you do me a favor please and add a link to the source!?

edit: that keeper part really is putting a smile on my face! amateur keeper always have an eye on their digital counterparts! :D
and that differentiation of tactics for "in ball posession" and "off ball" is such an awesome addition. dont know how this works out, but on paper, this really is something i like to use!! :APPLAUD:
...and more stats!!! :EASY:

It's from the preview I posted on the previous page, by Operation Sports.

I binned commentary around FIFA 14. I maintain that we won't have realistic commentary in a football game in my lifetime. Granted - given I'm a Scottish man - I could go any second.
The day that they abandon standard recording, and they train an AI to speak with the voice of the commentator - like they did in the Anthony Bourdain film recently, to great offence - commentary will be great.

If they cared enough about sound, they'd be implementing "machine learning" in that area too. You could create a huge script with dynamic event insertion, you could speak every single name in the game (including ones you made up yourself - which I guess is the danger, someone making Lee Dixon say "Assfart" and getting sued). You could even raise the pitch as a goal begins to look more likely.

It frustrates me that this hasn't already been attempted. The technology is there.

It's the neglect that makes me think it will never happen. Commentary hasn't been something to sing about probably since the cartridge era. It's just... there. It seems like the only thing that matters now is who's speaking rather than what they're saying.

I think Fifa rtwc 98 was the only game wehre I liked the sound atmosphere. There were drum sounds, flutes and all other cheers. Very primitive but distinct.

Nowadays these games feel quite asf and bland.

PES 10's PESedit world cup mod had the vuvuzela sounds, which I liked too.

Are there passing assist filters online?

Yeah. Assisted/Semi/Manual passing filters

manual games are fairly difficult to find in regular matchmaking these days though. seem like i wait between 15-30 minutes whenever i attempt it

Check out my thread here if you're interested in a FIFA full manual community . it's an active community with around 200 members

the best way to consistently play manual matches is by playing friendlies with people from a community like this or people from your friends list

I went back to 17 last night. After playing Pes 5 Directly before, It didn’t feel too far from that experience.
I would recommend giving it a go on slow.

More midfield battles, the need to create opportunities. I put it on Legacy Defending to get that extra pro feel. Was enjoyable.

I noticed that the players are stiffer within their turning animation which is why I think it felt closer to PES5 as it felt more in between 8 directional and 16.

If only 22 is like that with better graphics and more Aesthetic animations, I think I would be happy.
I might try 21 again with legacy defending but then again, even on the hardest difficulty, it’s too easy.

I haven't watched a lot of football of late, but what I've heard of Micah he does a great job, informative, interesting with a good sense of humour, been a welcome addition to football media IMO.

Interview

The big innovation in FIFA 22: The big buzzword in FIFA 22 is "HyperMotion" - at least on the new consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S. This is a new technology that brings over 4,000 new animations into the game, enables new movements and is intended to move the whole game closer to real football.

With the help of the new consoles it is now also possible to incorporate longer, realistic animations into the game without the gameplay losing responsiveness, explains gameplay producer Rivera: "In the past we tried to keep the animations short".
The players can now make long, fluid movements, but they can be interrupted if necessary.

The "HyperMotion" aspects of the game are exclusive to the two new consoles and Stadia . The PC, PS4 and Xbox One, on the other hand, have to do without them - but they do not go without innovations, emphasizes Rivera: “When we designed the functions, we also paid attention to effective innovations with the Gen 4. And they are big: like the goalkeeper's redesign, how the ball moves. The sprint mechanics, the tactics - they're all part of Gen 4. "

Sprinting should no longer be so overpowering in FIFA 22

The subject of "sprint mechanics" should be an important catchphrase for many players. After all, in the past it was often said that the fastest players brought a clear advantage. That has been looked at more closely for FIFA 22, says Rivera.

“There are a few changes we've made in FIFA 22. In general, we try to make sure that pace is not the most important factor in the game. We want to be more like real football. Speed is important, but not everything. "
Interview with Sam Rivera
Rivera refers to the European Championship game between England and Italy as an example. There, the Italian central defense held the English offensive in check, although the defenders Chiellini and Bonucci are not necessarily considered to be the fastest defensive players.

With the "Explosive Sprint", FIFA 22 brings a new sprint mechanic into play, which should give players an advantage in the first meters forward. Nevertheless, they want to find a balance with FIFA 22: “There are adjustments to how fast the players move. Fast-reacting, explosive, without being too fast. "Especially with Hypermotion, players should" have to relearn how pace works in FIFA 22. "

FIFA 22 should feel fairer

A long-standing problem for the FIFA community is that games don't always feel “fair”. In the sense of: Something different happens than you actually expected from the game during certain actions. A problem that Rivera and his team want to tackle more closely in FIFA 22.

"I play a lot and sometimes I see the case: Maybe that wasn't the best outcome of a situation," said Rivera. This sometimes leads to situations that feel as if by chance: “That's not what we want. We want the game to feel fair. "

Rivera can understand that one is annoyed when such problems arise: "It can be frustrating if you think you did everything well and you don't get the result you expected." actually look like a simple situation - and then end up with the opponent.

This is where FIFA 22 should improve: “We're doing a lot in this area,” says Rivera: “There should be more consistent courses of action that you can learn so that you can master things. In this way we also want to achieve more fairness. "

How much do I actually do as a player in FIFA 22?

With FIFA 22, significantly more calculations should take place on the field. Thanks to new tactical AI, the defensive should defend more closed and cover areas of the playing field, while the offensive should behave more creatively in attack.

The AI shouldn't do everything for the player, explains Rivera: "We don't want people to have the AI defend them directly for them," says Rivera - because then you wouldn't have to bring your own skills into play : "However, the way in which players position themselves in interaction with their teammates is different."
In the past, defenders would have tended to cover individual players, while areas were now more divided among themselves. “It's a new approach to how players move off the ball. But we don't want to make 1-on-1 easier for the AI defender. That should still be the manual player who has to defend. "

Despite the new, improved AI, you shouldn't rely on your team and hope that they'll get the game rocked: “You don't have to do less. You still have to decide and control the game, "says Rivera:" The calculations ensure that the players around you can do better runs, understand things better, and support you better. But better in the sense of football, in the sense of more authenticity. "

The new features are not intended to create more AI defense. “It's not there to create more automated things. But to give the players more football behavior. "

As a player in FIFA 22, what should I watch out for first?

A tip for the start: With all the innovations, it could be difficult for players to get used to the new FIFA 22. According to Rivera, one should focus on tactics and positioning first as soon as the game comes out.

“Finding spaces is something completely different. When you play FIFA 21 a lot, you get used to, 'okay, that's the way you build the game and create opportunities,' ”says Rivera.“ In FIFA 22 everything is a little different because everything is more zonal , there is less man-marking. So maybe you have to use the wings more. But that doesn't mean that you can only score crosses and goals. More variety! "

More variety in attack patterns - that should be something that many players could enjoy. How it will feel in the end remains to be seen. Because the release of FIFA 22 is still a long way off on October 1st.

Did EA release any news regarding adding a full team editor like PES or is it just going to be the team creation specific for career mode? I know this might seem like a weird priority, but the editor is legit one of the most important aspects of a football game to me, and now that the future of PES, or eFOOTBALL, looks bleak, I kind of need FIFA to become a viable option, but without an editor that's gonna be tough for me.

Yes, but it may well be the same clips from the last video. We'll have to wait and see.

I've read today that Stewart Robson has actually replaced Lee Dixon, which for me is absolutely brilliant news. Never rated him as a pundit, and some of his lines have been god awful to listen to. Robson will bring new lines and hopefully a new feel to the commentary as Derek rae has been involved for a few years now

Your last paragraph tends to be an example of why it never ends well. Needless insinuations.
I think it's pretty absurd to say that's a "needless insinuation", given that labelling anything as "box-ticking" is the absolute definition of a needless insinuation. Someone like Alex Scott has to have her entire career labelled as a box-ticking exercise. What a way to live.

However, I've deleted my post because this isn't the place for this discussion - it's a website dedicated to a video game. Hopefully there is some more FIFA news to discuss once today's EA broadcast kicks off.

So... Watch this video and tell me - is "explosive sprint" replacing standard sprint? Cos looking at the controller, I'm confused.

I really hope it is - I like the idea that, if you use it, you're locked in a straight line, so you can't just sprint full-speed everywhere.

Rivera said in an interview that one of their aims this year is to stop sprint speed being the main attribute you need to succeed.

Also, there was an EA Play event today - did any FIFA news come out of it?

Nothing but the hypermotion trailer we already know.

hopefully sprint will be less prominent.

There were plenty of exploits in 21, performing certain skill moves gave players a similar "explosive" speed boost.
Maybe they looked at incorporating that exploit into an official mechanic that everyone can use since it's no longer tied to these skill moves.

Will it be well balanced? No idea, but 'Fifa' and 'well balanced' are very rarely seen in the same sentence.
