FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

Can someone tell me what's the appeal in FUT?

You play with fake kits and teams, you either grind all day or waste money on gambling cards that might not even drop the player you want. All these grind for what?

Isn't playing with actual teams in online more fun? Or if we want our own fantasy team, isn't having our own created team without needing any stupid card drops and playing with against others online gonna be more fun?

Instant reward (cards/draws) same mechanism as clicking on your smartphone.
Every game (almost) has them nowadays.
Have that draw/pack opening with the right music/sound effects and it's a winner.
They even have made research ,especially gaming/gambling companies around that.
Ever thought why there's never sad music if you lose playing/gambling?

No idea. I wouldn't play fut even if the gameplay was good and there was no gambling involved. Playing with real and different teams is just more appealing.

And they're not just building their fantasy team, they all build the exact same 'meta' team, so you just play with & against a bunch of messi's & ronaldo's every time. How exciting. 😅

I think there is an appeal. I like FUT idea (having to build a top players team) but the mode is so microtransaction based that it's simply pay to win now.

Lmao, just watched the footage and the LODs during gameplay camera on next gen consoles are still low, while PES has been doing full LOD from gameplay camera since PES 14...

Also if PCs from 2009 and 10 can handle full lod with mods on those ps3 era fifa games, how tf cant a Ps5 manage full lod?

Are they even trying?

Ctrl+C previous codes and Ctrl+V, add some shiny lighting and new kits and call it "Next gen hyper realistic graphics" while they forgot the improve the graphics during gameplay camera which is 99% of the game. And with 4k monitors, low LODs look even more obvious.

This is actually sad. Waste your time grinding and getting fucked or gamble your money and get fucked

When it started, I really liked it.

You started with an awful (bronze) team. You had to grind your way out of trouble, to afford to buy better players, to afford to KEEP better players.

The Bronze Cup events were brilliant. You had to really concentrate to win, by knowing what your players were individually capable of.

Believe it or not, it reminded me of what I'm experiencing now when I play a PES5 ML - having to grind and having to pay attention to the attributes to win.

Now, you start off with gold players, and by day two of the game being out, everybody's spent £100 on filling their whole team with the latest beyond-gold (special event) players. Every match is the same. 100mph runs, oceans of space, silly scorelines, ridiculous teams.

Deeper Intelligence - players will now make 6 times more decisions than before. About 10 years ago, EA were proudly stating that players made 1000 decisions per second. So now they're making 6000 decisions per second. I can barely comprehend what things they're deciding between. Amazing!

The interviewer asked about machine learning - how does it actually make the game feel different? Is it more responsive? Smoother?
EA's answer - it just looks more like football than ever before.
Wow!

I get the feeling that machine learning is probably going to be a fundamental in the development of football games in the future and can hopefully eventually be used to create far more complex tactical play by both your team and the AI opponent, even to the point where every real life team is analysed and then it's applied in ways that give each AI team and player a fairly distinct identity. But it seems EA are currently using it to create a heap of extra animations.

looks good to me. i'm excited! especially to try the next gen (though hope im able to nab a ps5)

but i'm already enjoying 21 big time so any improvement is most welcome to me.

So, let's see how this zonal defence / keeping shape thing works together with CDMs that do not track back and 1v1s.

Exhibit A: A blue CPU controlled midfielder, and a red attacker. The attacker breezes through. That's just our starting point.

tr1a.JPG

Exhibit B: Our CPU midfielder doesn't track back, because why would he.
I think he's contemplating his 6000 decisions per second and in this instance he has decided that the best course of action is to stand perfectly still, looking into the void of his miserable existence in this dumb game.

tr1b.JPG

Exhibit C: The ball is played to the winger so now 2 things happen, the defenders chase him dropping deeper & our midfield hero springs to life and decides to sprint back. This is not tracking back or defending, this is keeping shape / a certain max distance to his defensive line.

tr1c.JPG

In summary, there is no tracking back, zonal defending means they strictly maintain their formation but only one player defends, because 1v1s. No idea about 2nd man press. And I do not believe for a second that someone can make 6000 decisions / second and still be this dumb. What are they supposed to think anyway? They are programmed to keep their formation and the only player who can defend is user controlled!?

Is this better than Fifa 21? I don't know because I'm no masochist so I didn't buy it / play it. Maybe it's the same shit, maybe this is slightly better. Absolutely no idea, the demo will tell.

It’s all just dopamine output control these days, basically. And it makes tons of money. Everywhere, even in our beloved video game cosmos.

It's all been researched ,like the sneaky bastards they are (gaming/gambling co).
Not much is left by coincidence nowadays ,football at times perhaps.

This is a good little insight.

I had to laugh - what's the one thing that modern FIFA gameplay does right? Shooting, right? Take a listen to 6:11...

Also says that if you see a defender coming for you, the new "explosive sprint" mechanic will get you away from them most of the time.

He even touches on defenders "skating" and not being able to get near decent strikers because they're so disadvantaged.

That last one is why FIFA has zero fouls now. Players never meet. There is so much space, and no AI pressing. Just you, pressing one man at a time, and skating past them every time.

Sigh. I know I'm being negative but usually, there's no real gameplay footage at this point of the year, which means you can live on false hope. Not this time.

looks great in motion, almost like watching football match on tv. one thing that bothers me on fifa 21 also is foot planting and not natural weight movement of the players, they skip direction very fast. I think that actually made the game very arcadish apart from bad positioning in defence.

I've not played FIFA for a few years but one thing i remember is that all teams seemed to play the same and all defences seemed to be perfectly organised at all times, with a very neatly aligned back 4. EA should give themselves more credit for having implemented tactical defending years ago rather than making themselves look foolish like they've only just thought of implementing it now, after all those years. Anyway, it's good to see it's still in their game and all teams will continue to defend the same way.

"If anything, he's deciding too well there!"

Take a look at the comments below this rather than the video itself. Interesting that we're far from the only people noticing this stuff.
Love how exasperated that guy is talking through the problems there

I think it echoes the concerns I raised in my post above. They've used this team-mocap purely to make more realistic the individual player animations, and it actually has nothing to do with the team itself.

Insert here a parallel to the human predicament of how sociopolitical systems have prioritised the individual at the expense of the collective, when it's the collective that makes the individual significant in the first place...

At some point in the EA gameplay video, where they speak about humanization(?players calling for the ball), there is a penalty and you can see one player rising its hand asking for a pass. I had a good laugh! It is a 18:10 in the video.

All sounded really nice in the mouth of those gentlemen, but the footage, full of sliding, positioning issues. It is just beyond me.

Looks good to me but then so did Fifa 21 at the start and then it quite quickly felt a bit souless.

The midfield battles, where you jostle for ball (Fabinho or Kante style) are not as good in Fifa, for me.

After 20 years of loyalty, I really can't be arsed with PES any more. Let's see what is realised tomorrow.

The animations still look way to sped up to look anything like real football. I'm amazed that they've got a gameplay developer who's actually played the game professionally.

Pisses me off because EA have got all the resources in the world to get this right.

Can't see anybody else reporting this, but great news if it's true. Even if, as they admit themselves in the tweet below this one, EA have just recycled The Journey code for Be A Pro, like we've been asking for since literally FIFA 17. Five years for just that seems... A little obscene. But great news nonetheless.

Now then. This, I'm impressed with. Though it makes me wonder how much attributes matter right now...

"Let's talk about an interesting addition to offline play.

'Individual Difficulty' is an option in the game settings menu that enables player individuality. The difference will be noticeable across all difficulty options, i.e. CR7 will be strong on any difficulty in the game (when enabled).

You can enable or disable the option in the game settings menu. This option generates a greater weight in attributes, even on Amateur difficulty."

Ok. I tried to say nothing, but I cant.
Dont know if this bit of gameplay was posted here, probably was, but this

...how, in the name of jaysus, in next gen Fifa, company like EA can present such a horrible skating?? Movements of the players are just fucking repulsive. There is zero weight there, zero physicality, zero tackles, they are basically just bouncing the ball around.
If you showed me 4 clips - Fifa19,20,21 and this "next gen" - I would honestly have trouble in telling you which is the new one. I have no words to describe how fucking offensive is to present something like this to people and claim its a football sim. If it wasnt enough they are bringing this "EX FOOTBALLER" who is throwing buzzwords around and blatantly lies that players do x/y/z when you can see clearly that they dont do shit. Just move together like they had a rope between them, waiting for you to switch to one of them and begin the exciting 1v1's.. I swear to god - Fifa is gone. Never buying this shit again until their vision changes completely.

Cancelo's skating there is really, really bad.

It's so weird how the selling point is the improved animation, when everyone can see the skating that's going on. I've never seen anything quite like it from a marketing standpoint...

Like I said to you earlier, it's Trumplike, isn't it? "Here's this thing I fixed, animation uses machine learning - the best machine learning, #1 machine learning - to get rid of the glitchy animations."

"There's a glitchy animation. Right there."

"Fake news. PES fanboy."

And lets not forget that these are, literally, seconds of gameplay. Cherry picked especially to present how aWeSOmE the new Fifa will be.

Just to compare - 90mins (90-fucking-minutes) Pes Realism video made by one of the guys in here looks like a real match and makes you want to jump straight back to Pes (knowing how poor it is).

Seems too many on here, and too many quoted from their Twitter accounts, have never captured footage in their life.

i.e.......its clear as day to me from the Italian 7 minutes demo footage that there are frames being missed in the captured video itself, and THAT is why it doesn't look smooth.

Once these new animations, of which I can see loads showing already, are watchable at a high fps without frames being skipped, this is going to look awesome.

I cannot see any of the FIFA 99 to FIFA 21 style quick unrealistic turns that have been the same animation for 22 years and plagued the game, this really does look like a whole new game now, albeit sadly its hard to view it properly like this.

I'm also impressed with how easy it is for them to introduce a myriad of gameplay options, from competitive mode to this, while still avoiding a simple AI defending on/off option.

Absolutely ZERO excuses anymore.

I tried to play 21 tonight but it’s so boring, easy and soulless.

i downloaded 17 and it’s sad that that is a far better game than 21 . I’m going to play it for a bit to see if it sticks but what’s worse is on both 17 and 21, the player animation they are touting, pointing and reactions etc are already in both .

I also noticed the “new” control animation too. Exactly the same as the video today but in 21 as I brought the ball down and span.

I’m convinced they just change the sliders on the back end and that’s their new game year on year with a bit of different polish.

It’s like the old joke about westernized Mexican food. Just wrap it a different way and it’s a completely new dish.
