FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

Dear lord
Worst hot take I've seen for a while... But that's to be expected from this clown.

Re: the "interview" (with the interviewer very obviously reading a meticulously-crafted script as he spoke)...

The slidey, glitchy, rotating/strafing/crab-walking all-at-once defenders made me laugh. It's like they think we can't see what's going on away from the ball-carrier. They're so bad that I can only hope, however unlikely, that they're from an old build. I mean, surely you can't talk about how much more realistic the animation is across the game, in a scene where the defenders literally look like malfunctioning hyper-twitchy robots, and keep a straight face.

It's that, or they've literally only updated the animations for attackers. Which would be the saddest thing of all.

I have to admit, I thought everything else looked pretty awesome (I winced when they said the ball moves faster, but the speed looked okay in the full-speed clips)... except for the God-damn 1v1 defending.

The ex-footballer sat there talking about how it's much more realistic now from a tactical point of view, as a line of defenders stand off the strikers as if they've got Covid (with nobody pressing anybody, anywhere) made me really angry. Yeah, they were moving to the ball-side of the pitch... But that's such a small improvement.

The anger comes from the fact that, if they just had a "defenders can defend without you having to hold their hand" switch... I could enjoy all the cool stuff they've added. But until then, all I'll do is play the game and scream "why the fuck am I having to defend every danger situation with ONE MAN".

It was enough footage to see that the midfielders don’t participate in defending. They even showed how they focused only on the defenders when creating their new “tactical AI” bullshit.
Yep, one thing I noticed was when attacking there are midfield runners but the defending midfielders are not running with them. It's just gonna create overloads on the defence. It will basically nerf the midfield

It didn't look like much of a big improvement over FIFA 21 to be honest.
Most of the chatter coming from those guys couldn't be backed up when watching the footage, or I wasn't able to perceive it.
Lots of sliding. Which is surprising since you'd think that this new Hypermotion gimmick would be used precisely to enforce some proper foot planting in the game.
The ball looked too big to me at times, weird.

And they keep dragging the same outdated unrealistic player models which just makes everything else look more cartoonish.

That being said, if I do get a PS5, I will buy it anyway.

A lots of good things on paper but i want to see with my dualsense.
I always waiting for beta leaks before speaking about gameplay.

The problem is in transition, the new defending as a unit AI looked quite good when a team is already in shape and the defence is shifting from side to side, but they seem to not care about getting back on counter attacks, not sure how the devs can't see this.

Some of the new animation does look really good though, it's the first time a football game has looked like something approximating next-gen.

Also there's a bit in one of the footage in which the defender tracking Salah, simply STOPPED following him, allowing Salah to run from 20 yards outside the box until the penalty spot and score completely free, no one to disturb him at all. It was SO OBVIOUS.

A whole year we've been complaining about midfielders not tracking back and they go and show just precisely that .

Yeah
They formed a line but I didnt sede any action to really cover and cut out passes, intercept the ball and etc. This is severly lacking in both games.

On the other hand, the impact of of hypermortion is really there. The ball chest Control, the way player let the ball drops First and the take the touch already on a Sprint, everything flows real Nice like It was indeed captured from a real match.

There are some small trânsition issue that doesnt look good, but a part from that, as a whole its Far more natural, almost like this is a whole New Engine with much more advanced physics and animations. Touchs, First touchs, ball Control, air battle, the way balk moves on the ground, Air ball passa swiching sides, it just flows beautifully most of the time.

Thats It! PS5 AND SERIES X VERSIONS ARE THE ONLY PLAYABLE VERSIONS.

I am feeling Sorry for Pc players right now

I’m not gonna lie what I didn’t like is that ever player will have a amazing first touch .. no mention off the speed of the ball or spin causing lack of first touch or ability of a first touch . I don’t want a CB to control the ball like Ronaldo

The fifa developers cant win. When try to improve realism the majority of their fanbase get upset so they have to patch it out. Guys like kurt want it to play like fifa street.

For guys who like football they seem to hate the actual mechanics of it.
This, exactly this.

Listen to them talk and it's super clear that the stuff they're working from comes from a love of football - and that what they're implementing is a recreation of it. To take all of this tech and reduce it to a double-speed game with every player flip-flapping and drag-backing twice a second...

How does it make sense? I just can't wrap my head around it. They even said "we have the data to see [amongst other things] the average scoreline". So are you looking at 9-0 and 5-5 scorelines and thinking "yes, we're making the most fun football game ever"? It doesn't make any sense!

EDIT: Also, was it me or did it seem a bit weird when the interviewer asked something like "League Two players will have a worse first touch right"? For a scripted conversation, it didn't seem like an entirely comfortable answer. "Er, well there are multiple systems in play so"... Bit of a politician's answer!

Multi touch seems to be an interesting concept, but I Hope its more restricted to High skillfull players. Zidane was Just a god at this.

Dear lord

They actually think the game is designed for career mode players

Bit of a wank this?
All the tools and technology ,still it's going to be a speedy FUT fest with no defending.
I could live with that on Fifa 20 ,21 was horrible due to that and a brainless/one track minded ai.
Check please!

Anyway, talking about zonal defending and keeping shape is all well and good in theory. I'll play the demo if there's one. In practice it can be ruined with too much space between the lines and AI players not really defending zones and picking up players as they enter their zone, but just moving like zombies not doing anything unless selected. Details like that can make it or break it.

Everyone will still buy the game though. This is the issue.

Consumers, IF they hate it so much - vote with their wallets. I didn’t buy FIFA 21 and I won’t buy 22. I’m just a drop in the ocean but if enough people did this EA would sit up and notice.

Think the thing that is needed online and offline is a sim mode and casual mode(all it fifa classic). The annoying this is the normal fifa experience has some great things. Im really excited by the new ball physics and ai team control. The new tactics look great and the animations look amazing.

But i know most of it will be patched out once the influencers get a ahold of the game. They are the biggest threat to a potential amazing fifa game not the developers .

This is Exactly the jmpression that I had. Its All too scripted but I can FEEL the love these guys have for the game, and the hypermortion and some of their ideias make me believe that they KNOW and, deep inside, they Want to capture the beauty, flow and realism of the game, minus the midfield AI wich I agree.

I can see they Want to capture natural movement and the way a pro player interect with ball in different situations on a realistic way wich hypermortion really helps.

For the First time ever I now believe a feature comming from EA/Fifa like the hypermortion not being Just cool advertising bullshit. Shit is ambiton, but I fear FUT players Will make them regress and "downgrade" it.

Everyone will still buy the game though. This is the issue.

That's because you have to choose between the lesser of two evils.
If there were more football games, people would not buy the games just to have 30% worth of improvements over last year's version. Every year.

That was the other thing that annoyed me (you saying "influencers" has reminded me)!!

When they asked Zaro, their community manager, who they listen to - and the first thing he says is Gamechangers, "influencers" and content creators.

EVERYTHING THEY DO IS TO GENERATE CLICKS AND MAKE MONEY. Who cares what they think of the gameplay? They're jesters! They're not Joe Public!
