FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

I really really need help defending... I just find it so hard to contain any team. HELP!! any tips?
Take your foot off the gass.
Dont put too much pressure.
Focus more on what can they do next rather than what they are doing.
Switch players and shadow their strikers.
Use jockey. A lot.
Sliding tackles only when you are 100% sure they are locked in a run and you will be able to reach them.
Dont panic.

These work for me.

Oh yeah - like @Anth James said - dont even bother with contain button. Useless.

Im very far away from a great player, but Im finding defending really enjoyable.
So here are two examples of what I meant

1.

Dont put too much pressure. Think what they can do, block passing lanes. If you cut them off - they start to panic. They dont know what to do. And if you feel like they took a heavy touch, or got close to you - tackle. Attack when you sense weakness.
Basically - set a trap and wait.

2.

This is a great example as well.
See I didnt know what he will do there. There was 50/50 chance that he will shoot on goal, or pass.
But you're primary objective is NOT to get the ball back, but to prevent them from scoring, whether its a tackle, interception or block. So try to cover the goal.
I positioned my player as much as I could in a way that I was ready to block if he shoot and ready to intercept if he passes.
He decided to shoot. I blocked it.

No panic. Just a cold blooded threat assessment.

Maybe the Update 3 will come out tomorrow (Stadia/PC)
Hi Math,

I’m not sure if this is your sort of thing but every time I play at the king power Tele cam, the stadium roof always glitches in the view of the pitch . There’s a grey bar that appears about 2” across the top of the screen.
Cheers

Just had a great career game against Leicester. 1-1. Plenty of fouls, sliding and regular tackle fouls. I even got a penalty last match against arsenal. Missed it obviously.

Really enjoying it. Looking forward to getting it.

The most important thing is like emroth said don't panic. Everytime I panic I ended up getting my guys out of position or doing a stupid tackle or slide. You should try to get in front of whoever has the ball. Just get in front of him and get him to change direction or pass using jockey. Don't panic if you lose your position just switch to closest defender and try again. Use team mate pressure very sporadically as long as you don't leave a hole in the back.
And just practice, I still get some situations when they dribble all the way from midfield to score a goal but I'm getting a better.

I’m loving this game at the moment. I feel like there’s a great rhythm and flow to it and that’s something that has always been missing in FIFA for me before, especially on manual.

The patch has been largely positive for me also.
I've played a couple of games and it feels lie everything has been smoothed out and we'll balanced.

Did he just stop a full powered shot with his chest and shot it out of the danger zone within 0,5 seconds?
That's FUT competitive gameplay for you.
It happened at some stage post release.
Natural deflection would mean too much randomness for FUT players and "I can never get the ball back" complaints.
But I doubt that this particular issue will be fixed, as this would affect them online.

Played some games with new patch on ps5 and game feel even more random and little more sluggish to me. If I play vanilla game it`s unplayable for me becouse it`s too fast even on slow, it doesn`t look realistic, of course camera have big impact on perception of the game speed but anyway. Using sliders you tinker the game like you want to play but in a same time you broke other stuff so it`s really difficult to find right balance. I end up playing on slow with acc slider on 51 and player speed at 15 and game look more natural, also there is less skaty animations. What I find most interesting is that sliders about positioning of the players (height, lenght, widht) should be at 50! I know we are trying to compensate AI in these situations but playing with these sliders at 50 I see much more randomness and variation in the game. Also not to mention run frequency, everything below or higher of 50 makes the game completly different. I enjoy the game now even more.

patch 2 impressions:
when i played last night... it felt to me that there is more scamble as well. more chaos sometimes, ball reflecting between players legs and such... "more action on the pitch" i'd say. i liked that.
overall speed seemed a bit lower due to "fake"-physicality (i will call it that for now as i havent had many matches with patch2 yet). it felt a bit more pronounced when turning and moving in general.
i definitely can see the enabled "kill_mode" as some discribed it... :D some sliding tackles look off in certain situations but i'm happy that EA was actually doing "something" reg. the fouls. needs to be seen over a period of more matches.
finesse shots from the pen box feel much better. i wouldnt have thought that change having an impact but i can feel the finesse shots are different and i like it!
what i did whitness last night: the most beautiful goal by the AI i ever conceded in 22 and 21! :D i will upload it later lads... it just looks stunning!!! ...and i put that down to the latest patch. does the AI have more low shots on taget now?

edit: out of context but... in my random team career i play 4-5-1 flat and those 3 CM's really are doing a good job. the CDM's and CM's do have probs tracking back, we know that. but with 3 players (i set them up pretty close to each other) in the middle (one droppping deep a bit but still playing CM) the AI seems to get stuck there more often. i just crowd that area! ;)

edit2: i just noticed, i did not copy the stunning AI goal to my iPad... so you have to wait till tmw. sorry.

I didnt notice any difference.

I think with this whole foul situation that we are in a stage of shock and it stands out to some much more than it should.
I have played nearly whole pre-season tournament (apart from the final) and didnt get single red card on any sides.
There was few yellows, but again - nothing odd. And finally some cardsq for me too.

To me its less random and aggressive than Pes17 was (and I loved AI fouls and aggression there).

I think that we didnt see AI fouls for nearly 5 years in Fifa and now when AI cut us down we all go "WTF!!!", coz we are not used to seeing this sort of thing..

Jesus Christ there are far too many red cards in this now, it’s laughable.

preferred it before the update with no fouls than the CPU getting them every other match.

Agree the gameplay is better than ever. Such a good game this despite the visual glitches and weird stuff.

A good 12 matches with the new patch now and it's a winner IMO. I don't see an issue with the fouls. Much of the time you still wouldn't know there'd been anything done about them. I finally saw the new sliding tackles but only in about 3 of those 12 matches, and there were a good amount in proportion. For many matches you wouldn't even know there'd been a 'fouls patch'. It's still normal to finish a match in FIFA 22 without any free kicks, but that's more acceptable when you know there's a decent chance of a clutch of fouls and free kicks in the next match.

I haven't seen any red cards for the AI. Just yellows.

Yes, I can look at some of the slide-tackles I've seen and think 'is that how I'd have fixed the fouls problem?' and the answer's probably not, but it's the way EA has chosen to put a sticking plaster on the problem, and I prefer it to the open wound personally. Fully understand why many a football gamer is taken out of the moment by them though.

Reading many posts in here it seems I’m the only one where the CPU gets a red card in nearly every game.

I wonder if I need to change my sliders? I’m always playing against 9 or 10 men.

Legendary, 6 min halves, slow, PS5 if anyone wondered.

Also has anyone got any decent injury sliders? I’m currently 90 frequency and 50 severity, maybe that’s why CPU is getting a million red cards?

I'm actually a bit jealous! Reminds me of one of the settings on Jenkey's PES 2013 patch where every slight touch was a yellow card and no match ever finished.

I'm on World Class, mix of semi/assisted controls, Series S. Some fluke of your settings might be producing it or this might be what's eventually coming to us all. Customisable referee strictness is my dream for FIFA.

Good injury experience on 75/25 for AI and Player. I get more than I would like on that setting, but that's what I like.

Thanks mate. The only issue with those sliders is that my players never get any long term injury’s, it’s always a ‘bruised shoulder’ for 5 days.

90 frequency is most realistic I’ve found in FIFA 20, 21 and 22. I get injuries but not loads of them and because severity is still at 50 it’s more ‘random’ i.e. a player will be out for 3 months and others will be out for 5 days.

BUT if the Injury frequency slider being at 90 is making the CPU get a red card nearly every game then I will have to lower it.

These red card challenges are nonsensical as well. I’m just passing the ball from a centre back to my right back and the CPU attacker will just lunge at me - straight red! When the CPU is winning too. That isn’t realistic, it’s ridiculous.

Again, none of you are seeing this and probably think I’m being overly negative or whatever. But it’s spoiling an otherwise fantastic football game and I’m really trying to find a way to address the CPU getting players sent off in nearly every single match I play.

75 frequency + 25 severity is working fine with me, and I'm playing default sliders too at the moment. You made a good point though, we could speculate that the 90 frequency might be triggering that somehow, but hey, who knows....

I'm also noticing that the sliding tackle fest only happens against certain players from certain teams, which makes me think that one of their individual instructions might be set to "aggressive interception".

It definitely happens more often in certain games than others. Porto players for example are usually super aggressive (which actually matches how they are in real life) when I play against them in my CM. They basically start pressing and tackling from the kick off whistle, specially if I pass the ball around in my own half.

I’m going to change sliders to 75 and 25 and see if anything changes, hopefully it fixes this issue!

75/50 is what I have. 50% chance of something more severe. Pre-season tournament and 1 league match done - already one player out for 3 months.

Mostly OS Sliders with little tweaks - professional/world class, total manual, slow, 8mins halves.

Didnt have single red card, fouls are nice and balanced. Most of the time Im not getting more than 1-3 for each team, but good few times ref plays advantage.

I wonder if because I’m on assisted controls that I’m ‘drawing’ red cards? Or maybe Legendary difficulty means more reds?

There are some on fifa careers Reddit saying too many reds, it’s not just me.

I wonder if it’s your style of play. Not that you’re ‘not playing it right’ or anything like that, I just wonder if certain ways of playing trigger certain aggressive tackles.

I’ve thought the same myself. After work I’ll test some different sliders and settings etc.

maybe setting it up more like the "slider gang" does could be a way...
why not set sliders to default and give fuma a try?! have a look for differences!
why not give world class or even professional a try on fuma then?!

when i think about it, legendary on normal speed with assisted settings and less than 8 min per half... that sounds like pure football videogame horror to me (even when i never played that exact setting)! so, its just in my head! ;)

I play on slow with passing speed slowed down.

I’ve tried FUMA and it’s arse - realism isn’t my 80 OVR rated player passing it out for a throw every game

No offence but this FUMA snobbery on here really grates on me.

I am glad someone else has mentioned this as I thought my Game install of FIFA 22 on PS5 was corrupted or something?

I also see the CPU getting way too many Red Cards against me. Its so weird and comically so.

I also see some comments about FUMA? Is that a new sports equipment brand like PUMA or are we saying Full Manual? I fail to see how this will affect the CPU's ability to not get red cards? ;)
