FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

I really don't agree with that. If something is blatantly not right and they give us the chance to report it, in a channel where you can be specific about what is going on, why not report it?
Oh I definitely understand it - because look what's happened with the previous lack of AI fouls in the latest update. From what I've seen, the change isn't "let's make the AI's decision-making when it comes to defending less perfect", or even "let's give the referee the ability to see physical challenges that aren't deliberate tackles as fouls". They've literally just made the AI randomly slide-tackle you sometimes, in situations that aren't realistic.

So if you ask for handballs to be toned down, there's a chance they'll be removed completely, and an equal chance that they'll be given at random...

That said, I too would always prefer that things are reported, so that they can be examined by the devs. But the odds on them actually looking at the root cause of any issue, to apply anything but a quick-fix to shut us up and say "we're done with this issue, next" - is slim-to-nil.

I mean, the same thing even happened with PES. People (including me) complained that PES 2020 (or 2021, I forget) had too many random fouls at release, that would never be called in real life. People like @Emroth said "if fouls get totally removed from this game now, it's everyone's fault for complaining about this". Now of course, it's not literally their fault - it's the devs' fault for not giving enough of a shit to look at the deeper issue. or even listen to the complaint beyond "foul broken fixy fix now". But in the short-term, it sort of is.

Just turn it off for penalties.

I think this is actually best & follows the real game, doesn't it? I don't think there is such a thing as raising an arm to block a shot or cross in fifa, most are random & accidental and those are not currently penalties in the real game too (thank god).

I might be a silly romantic here, but why not see it from a different angle and assume that if we report them the issues clearly with maximum details, more or less frequently and alongside the release of the new patches, that they might end up tweaking what they have started there with the fouls implementation of the new update for example. They showed some signs that they are actually reading what people are reporting so why not hope that the fouls can be tweaked in the correct direction again in the next patch, depending on the reaction of the people playing and reporting it?

I do understand where you and @Emroth are coming from with your worries but it seems to me that their openness to feedback this year and the fact they surprisingly added realistic elements to the gameplay as opposed to previous years is a real chance to push them to improve certain areas of the game.

Still regarding the handballs, it wouldn't be that hard to tone it down with some commands in the gameplay files really. As I can recall (and I am not sure if it was due to gameplay mods and tweaks) FIFA 16 frequency of handballs inside the box was much much lower than in recent years of FIFA so it is doable I suppose.

I wanted to collect more footage and put a video together showing multiple occasions of nice details, but as I know myself very well, my hard drive will be cluttered with small videos and in the end it’s a hassle to put them all together. Sorry. editing really is time consuming and I want to play more. :)
So here is just one lovely animation I would like to show.

just tonight I played a spanish fixture and have a look at Kounde!!

how he protects his injured hand, how he moves, I JUST LOVE IT!! :APPLAUD:

question: Is he currently injured and did EA implemented it via patch all live tuning?
edit2: not sure if that kinda stuff was in forever (and i just did not know) but i was delighted when i saw it! :)

It was PES 2020, I remember it well because I was in the other faction that believes 'better these fouls than none at all!' And I still believe that with FIFA 22, although...

I'm still playing through my 10-hour trial on the PC version, fully updated with the update that's supposedly coming this week to console, and not seen a blessed one of these random slide-tackle fouls in roughly 7 full matches over the last few nights.

I think FIFA could be the new annual obsessive football game if only it had fouls. For me that's the last major barrier preventing it from being a serious football game. And it's the one thing that EA will never allow to happen, no matter what noises or gestures it might temporarily make. All the slide-tackle foul stuff is an interlude on the way back to the status quo. If it's not – if we get through this teething phase and emerge the other side with a FIFA that has more than 1 token foul every couple of matches, in defiance of the 'game should be a game' people – these really are the end-times.

a thing that’s annoying me is the lock of players in air battles. Maybe I’m doing something wrong… then I’d like to know what.
when I play a high cross and my receiving mate is all alone when collecting the ball, I can use super cancel (L2 + my R1 (I switched sprint and close control) to move my receiver freely (I have set player auto switch to air balls only). So I can move away from the yellow X where the ball is about to land.
same situation but an opponent nearby, my receiver gets locked in the battle. I just can’t move him freely to round the opponent or alike.
first I thought this is down to holding super cancel (wich is 50% done by the shielding button, L2). but I tried a lot of buttons and combinations, even super hard cancel but nothing worked.
do your players get stuck in those battles too? I want my fuma back!

edit: here is a video illustrating that!

After the first high cross you can see me moving the player away from where the ball will be landing. The second high cross: you can see I’m getting engaged in a battle with an opponent and can’t move away. I wanted to move away top right corner. Third and final high cross: I wanted to move down right… still my player gets locked in the battle/towards the ball.

@cb7 as much as Id like football games and developers to work the way you described - they simply dont.
Looking at last 5 years at least - they dont.
They go for easy fixes, most of the time breaking the game completely.
Thats exactly what happened to Pes20 and Im glad people remember this, as I was shouting this will happen from the get go. They destroyed it.

People were, like yourself, reporting silly referee decisions and providing video examples and detailed descriptions.
Instead of putting some effort into polishing refs - they removed all physicality, dumbed down defending, so it was easier to take the ball. Ironically - stupid fouls left anyways.

If there are things that you can fix yourself, like simply disabling handballs in penalty area - there's no need to risk it.

Thats just the way they work.
They already removed half of hypermotion, leaving behing only hyper, without motion.

If we start giving out about hanballs and stupid random AI tackles - we wont have any free kicks by Xmas. Mark my words.

Well, if you guys bring up a different game from 2019, developed by a different company (that is famous for it's complete hermetical approach and communication concerning people giving feedback) to make your point then there is not much left for me to say besides disagreeing.

Just simply ignoring issues and stand still with fear that the game gets broken, specially this year that they seem more open to suggestions, does not feel right to me but I guess it's better to agree to disagree, wrap this one up and see what the future brings.

Started two careers today.
Though I think Vs 21 this is brilliant ,and it's a pretty good game ,even a very good game.
First off ,much tougher than previous games.
I'm on OS sliders WC semi everything except a few manual pass sliders.

15/20 in sprint values had me losing every damn game ,so it's 18/20 and much more realistic (to me)
Thanks to @Matt10 and co (guess @papinho81 is lurking there too) for a good set.

Issues.
We'll fouls? collisions being very poorly ,just bounce off each other
And I caught something else ,ever since the dawn of time FIFA has had issues with CPU Vs CPU results.
Pre 20 winners of a league finished with very few points.
With 20 (and a update) the winners hardly lost a single game.
This is how the end tables was for me in Bundesliga.

IMG_20211025_232721.jpg

I think we're back to low point totals for top three teams again.
Most worrying ,look at all the draws.
10 for BVB.
15 Gladbach

I'd say a realistic table would have BM on a few less draws ,and BVB on at least 5 draws fewer.
I'm seeing this as a pretty annoying thing and will probably piss me off in the end.
Can't understand why it's so hard for them to fix it?
Pes could ,and those clowns couldn't do much else correct.

General feeling ,good ,not great!

It was merely an example of how devs are tackling the issues.
Yes - my example was from another company. Company that always put more effort into core realism that EA did.
Chris already provided you with another example of how they resolved lack of fouls, by adding random stupid sliding tackles which dont make sense at times. But i'll gladly take them knowing that Fifa had no fouls since 2016.
Fifa also had no handballs at all for 2 years.
But hey - who am I to argue.
Lets just drop it like you said.

It's so funny they are aware of the fouls problems, yet stuff like this don't cut it for a penalty concession.

By the way, I'm in a weird relationship with the game at the moment. I'm starting to be kinda majorly put off by the bad things, namely the costant tweaking for optimal settings, op autoblocks, defending being probably the most frustrating I've had in any recent Fifa, and last but not last stuff like the rosters update bug, so lately I've been looking a bit less forward to play it.. yet, when I "force" myself to put it up, I still manage to have some very good fun. The match from which I took the penalty episode above, for example, was REALLY nice, with a lot of physical battles and nice dynamics all around. Also had two memorable battles against Atalanta in CL.

Don't know, every time I want to take a proper pause I end up re-trying it anyway lol.

How is the connection and quality playing on Stadia?
For me it has been flawless. Looks great and is pretty responsive. Bad side is if you play online is hard to get a match ( there seems to be a matchmaking bug coupled by the fact the player base is smaller than in consoles).

Don't know if this was addressed or if there was a patch today but has it fixed the player names? Yesterday I played a friendly and all my player names were messed up.

I have to agree with Matt that I'm having way too much fun with this game and get a game in whenever I get a chance or basically instead of working. I'm seeing such a variety of goals and situations.

Edit: turning off live form fixed the name bug in friendly match

I've never shared a clip before so sorry for the rewind ( Skip to 10 seconds) Just wanted to share this goal that made me jump out not because of how it was but because of the result of the game. I was playing online with someone who had a killer team, no way the guy didn't spend a good amount of $ to get his team set up, pressured me all game, almost couldn't make it out of my half, and after a 1-1 score at around the 75 min he just went all in until I patiently got him on the counter...

I've posted my slider settings in a different thread, so those wanting to use can find them easily. Any feedback welcomed! I enjoyed the discussion the other day regarding sliders/default etc. I reset to default myself and I really enjoyed the matches on there. I reverted a lot back to default with this set, as I think lots of you made some great points and I discovered lots of the settings were probably not really helping too much to achieve what I wanted. Anyway, have a read if you're interested as I've explained more in the thead!

Gonna give this a try. Are you seeing any difference with first touch slider? I have it really high as well but don't see the AI really affected by it

I see a very small amount, not heaps. I think it's more obvious when you push the ball out in front of you when sprinting, not so much when trapping the ball.

Addressed the following issues:
  • Made improvements to the visual fidelity in certain situations on Xbox Series S.
    • We will continue to monitor this going forward.
  • [PS5 and XSX|S only] During penalties, light colored hair could unintentionally appear as dark colored hair

I take it there's more than just that?

Just reading the last couple of posts regarding sliders. This is why I've gone back to the PES 2021 as it seems you're constantly seeking for a good game play experience worrying about slider settings and updates looking for things that are wrong or needing changing.

People become addicted to the sliders. I’ve always sworn to stay away from them because of this but now…I’m addicted too :(

Sliders don’t fix enough. Game is just fine at Vanilla on slow with the pass speed reduced a little.
