FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

Im also waiting to buy until patch is out.
Still have 1hr left of the trial, does that also get the update?

Played on matts sliders last night and lost 7-1 on legend. Haha the cup are brutal.

I think the close marking slider has brought out much more physicality in the game.
Had a couple of fouls and a yellow card given to cpu for a late sliding tackle.

Playing on ps4

The undefendable 5 yard passes in the box by the CPU are a bit shit.

Guess it's simulating how 'professional' players play. Not a fan though.

It is for this reason, I have stopped playing the game.
Started a career mode and currently unbeaten in 15 games, but the same CPU goal again and again, which you can't defend.
Just ruins the experience - The CPU has the same way of playing every game, and the same annoying way of scoring.

If the CPU exploits the game to this extent it must be awful online.

I've had a few seasons or division games on manual online , played really nice

i gave Volte mode a try last night... :SHAKE:
played like the standard, no slider version, of FIFA22... only on steroids! absolutly not my cup of tea!
before i even set one foot in the cage, i got harassed by all that bling bling stuff... setting this shirt up, selection that boost, enabling that perk... ^^

...not even with a pistol pointed towards my head!

@Emroth and I started a Champions League this afternoon, the way I used to play ISS Pro Evo (and every other football game) over TWENTY YEARS ago (wish I hadn't looked up the release date).

We play online using "online friendlies". A random number generator picks one current UEFA CL team each, then we play as the other teams in the group to try and knock each other's team out.

We can lock controls to semi (for me) or manual (for him), and even set the game speed to "slow" (though it felt better at "normal" speed when using less assists and when not playing the AI).

Honestly, I had the best time I've had with a football game for a very long time.

I can't really put that into words properly - because I've spent the majority of the last twenty years trying to find a decent football experience ... and ending up back on the PS2 PES's.

It took me right back to being sat in the family living room, doing FA Cups and World Cups every other weekend with friends and family.

The speed felt right, attributes really stood out, I managed to dribble right to the six yard box with Mo Salah and then MISS THE TARGET. @Emroth managed to dink the ball over my goalkeeper's head (who came rushing out and dived low), and also hit a wicked dipping shot from 30 yards nobody expected and the keeper just watched it float in.

My team (Young Boys) felt like controlling players in mud after the electric pace and precision of Liverpool - but two particularly skilful players stood out through the controller in your hand. There were barely any issues I felt, or saw, in comparison to playing against the AI - and it felt like a different world from playing something like FUT.

This game is something really special. I don't even want to say "far from perfect" or "it's still FIFA" because... As @Emroth already said. Based on today's session, I honestly wouldn't change a thing. I would against the AI, but the games we had today... I can't tell you what a joy they were.
Hi Chris,
i'm interested in your way to play "online friendlies"

(A random number generator picks one current UEFA CL team each, then we play as the other teams in the group to try and knock each other's team out.)......

Could you explain please more?
Thanks

Tried online and won’t be touching it again, this game is actually quite offensive in ‘normal’ speed.
It is criminal how different it feels online. I want to play humans on a more realistic sim mode. I don't think it's possible unless I'm limited to online friendlies.

yours look like small paper balls! are you on PS4?!
you should see my hypermotion supported bubbles! they float and glide so much more organic... and that colission system... ;)
Perfect bubble formation. Haha
It’s on the Series S but when I eventually get it: I’ll get it for the PS5 I think.
there usually great sales around Xmas new year and I want to see those bubbles in perfect resolution.

Oh it's mostly pen-and-paper stuff (except, in my phone's notepad app).

I've got a list of the original Champions League group stage teams, numbered 1-32 as the groups looked before they kicked off.

There's a random number generator website (you just Google it). I set it to a maximum of 32, then click "go", screenshot it, "go" again, screenshot it again. The first number is my team, the second number is my opponent's. (You can ask them to pick a number if you know they won't cheat and find the original draw to pick a good number...)

So I'm Young Boys, @Emroth is Porto. He got the better luck (just about).

Then, we look at their real fixtures, and play them using the "Online Friendlies" mode. It puts you into a mini-league of five games but we just ignore that aspect of it, and just play the matches. Whichever team is at home has to host the match, so that they will be at home. So Young Boys' first game was Man United at home - so I host (I send the "Online Friendlies" match invite to @Emroth).

At that point, you can set the settings to whatever you like - any minute halves, any speed, any control settings (you can force manual, semi or assisted), but not sliders unfortunately.

When the match is finished, I update the new league table in the notepad on my phone. Say I won 2-0 (I didn't).

Young Boys - P1, W1, D0, L0, GF2, GA0, PTS3
Man United - P1, W0, D0, L1, GF0, GA2, PTS0
Atalanta ?
Villareal ?

For the remaining teams, I will either look at their real result and use that, or if they haven't played yet, I will sim the game using FIFA (AI v AI).

If you can't be bothered doing that, I would suggest using the random number generator again. Set the max to 12 and "roll" for each team (1-3: no goal, 4-6: one goal, 7-8: two goals, 9-10: three goals, 11: four goals, 12: five goals) to generate their results.

Once we've played out the real fixtures, we will have two complete league tables. Then I can draw the knockout stages (if we finish in the top two positions) using the same methods. You need a pot of group winners and group runners-up - to generate the other teams for this stage, I tend to use their current real-life positions and just say "let's pretend they're the final positions", but you could also randomise this if you wanted to.

Then we'll play our games in the home/away order as drawn, until we eventually get to a final, using the random number generator to complete each round draw (assigning each remaining team a number, and using the random number generator to generate their positions in the draw).

Finally, there will be a one-legged final. Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to change the stadium in the settings pre-match, but I haven't actually looked...

So far, our groups look like this at the half-way stage:

Man United: P3 W3 D0 L0 GF4 GA1 - 9pts
Atalanta: P3 W1 D1 L1 GF3 GA3 - 4pts
Villareal: P3 W0 D2 L1 GF4 GA5 - 2pts
Young Boys: P3 W0 D1 L2 GF1 GA3 - 1pts

Liverpool FC: P3 W2 D0 L1 GF5 GA3 - 6pts
Porto: P3 W1 D2 L0 GF2 GA1 - 5pts
Atlético: P3 W1 D1 L1 GF2 GA3 - 1pts
Milan: P3 W0 D1 L2 GF4 GA6 - 1pts

Hope this is on the patch fix list: in Career Mode, about 2/3rds into the season, the post-match interview has started being about my team being unbeaten in the league all season, and can we keep the run going, etc. We are not unbeaten, needless to say. Far from it! It's an immersion-breaker rather than a gameplay thing, but immersion is important too.

Those post/pre match interviews are shite.
I skip them all. They not only add those stupid boosts, but are also poorly made.
Only do them when I get hammered by AI as an additional punishment for myself.
And quite often they repeat the same questions!

- What was the main reason of todays defeat?
- they were the better team
- so why did you lose today?
- ...didnt I.. didnt I just tell you?
- you lost today. What happened?
- ah fuck off!

Fortunately none of it is mandatory, so you can just pick whatever way you want to play it.
I normally dont do anything - sim training sessions, delegate transfers and just focus on the team itself.
Those transfer negotiations can get quite dull quite fast as well.

well, they up and down the happyness level of the team and certain players...
so, its recommended not to use the interview function?! i was asking myself, how much of an impact those interviews might have.

It's amazing Chris....
just a last question...which app do you use?

The only app I use is the notepad app on my phone. I type out the tables etc. myself. I'm not using any app or website that builds the results and/or league table for you. If anyone can recommend something that does that, it'd be helpful to me!

The only site I use is the random number generator website. Random.org.

You can surely ask your smartphone assisted to pick a random number for you real quick.
I just ask Siri „pick a random number between 12 and 134...“ (for example) works so flawless.

I’ve been playing the PC version, which is the same as ps4. I’ve found it to be a definite improvement on 21 and with the right adjustments I’ve been quite impressed with the AI as well. There’s still some tracking issues and an overall lack of movement which is frustrating, but in general it’s enjoyable and much better than 20 and 21. The reason I’ve ordered the NG version is because I’ve enjoyed the current gen.

The patch is already out on PC, and I’ve found it to be a good one. It’s helped with some of the midfield tracking. Overall a solid improvement and not game breaking at all from what I’ve played.
Did you ever play FIFA 21 with FIFER's mod? I'm curious because it supposedly included a realistic gameplay mod, wondered if this significantly improved that experience & fixed player positioning & midfielders/defenders tracking back correctly?

Reporter: 'What did you think of John Smith's performance today.'

Chosen response: He didn't have his best game but I'm sure he'll bounce back.

Your manager: 'Jones was shit today. What a cunt. He'll be lucky to get on the team bus, let alone the squad for the next game and to be perfectly honest I think his dad should've pulled out.'

Morale: BIG SAD FACE

Should go hand in hand with something like this too from today's BBC Football site: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58859342

Loot packs must be removed from the game and gambling advertising must be removed from football advertising off and on the pitch.
That interview with Chris Bruzzo on Eurogamer was pretty disgusting. Pretending not to understand points, using stats as if they shut down ethical concerns rather than add to them, saying that pay-to-win is like real world football, making victims of the gameplay devs by pretending they have the same agency on FUT loot boxes as the guys at the top… having the tone of a smirk throughout before going full Trump and saying ‘nobody feels more bigly about it than him, y’know, it’s so bad, on both sides I have to say, and believe me, they don’t know, they don’t, I do’ etc etc. Saying kids shouldn’t buy packs whilst also saying hardly any kids have accounts with them (because they’re using over 18 accounts to buy the packs ffs).

So much of it was just appalling to read, especially because it seemed like he didn’t even get why what he was saying was sociopathic.

Had one today, pre-match press conference.

Q: The season isn't going to plan, there were high hopes at the start of the season what's gone wrong?
A: I'm in 1st place, 4 points clear you moron.

I am getting more and more tempted to buy.

Damn FIFA does this to me every year :D
Given you're a retro PES player like me @geeeeee I thought I'd chip in with my summary.

Initially I found this to be another irritating Fifa that left me pining for PES. I almost sold it but have stuck with it and am now rather enjoy it.

The trick for me was using a combination of Operation Sports sliders, pro level, semi passing and shooting and a complete change in defensive play.

Create a Club in Career mode is very much like starting ML with the defaults and the story of my little League 2 no-hopers is really very compelling.

I do find I feel a little frazzled after a Fifa session in a way I don't with PES but that's probably down to the fact it's not that comfy old game they so cruelly took away from us.

Shooting, presentation and player individuality is very impressive, even on PS4. Crucially, the AI is challenging and varied in a way I have never seen on any Fifa I've played.

another example of situational fouls and I left recording running and turned out to be a dramatic game . My next game against spurs finished 1-1 and it was insane , 8 fouls in total (prem teams seem to foul more , same happened with Everton in my custom league) with 3 AI bookings . Forgot to go live on that one which is a shame as it was best video game of football I've had in years.

I’m so going to Create a Club when this update goes live on PS5.

Did you start in League Two? Or a different country entirely?
