FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

30 games played. 2 pens.

On pes 2021 had about 500 games give or take... 2 actually maybe just 1.
Ive had 3 in 11 and approx 3 freekicks per game excluding advantages which is about 2 per game. Could do with a few more. I think difficulty has an impact , i get more on professional than world class

Twice you said it or it was someone else @dinono10...
I didn't get that "no penalty" issue on PES 2021, on the highest difficulty at least, players where more agressive.

But i was probably very lucky or play differently. I swear on everything, first session i've made, i gotted a penalty after 3 games, i was WTF.
Still too rare btw. You have to provoc it or i don't know.
But i don't remember neither at all from almighty era from PES1 to 6 having penalties neither, neither on the Fifa 11 to 14 era to me it's a football game issue regarding EA. Fouls yes, a tons on WE9 and a lot (people complained about it... Fortunately they never tried WE9) on PES5.
But not on the penalty area.

Just to talk generally about football games, it's an issue. Well not like some game with no fouls at all, but Penalties are pretty hard to get against AI on every game i played, it's a matter of luck (well normally not lucky, but we are happy to get penalty on a game... Weird when we think about it haha)

Edited: i assume that devs don't want to piss to much people while playing. Imagine having tons of penalty, for simple contact. Everyone would yell at the game.

I get maybe 1 free kick in shooting range every couple of matches. Enough to make it worth learning the bizarre (it seems to me) control scheme for them. This clicked when I realised you can press the million-or-so buttons required consecutively rather than all at the same time. The on-screen help and the occasional tutorials I've looked up have always seemed to tell me to press them all together including the right stick. Which is physically impossible! I'm getting closer and closer, but still not quite getting that 'whip' effect on them. If there was an option for Legacy free kicks (and corners) I'd take it.

I also get one close free kick in 20 games, i was completely lost with the system and explanation. Needs to go to training, but i'm not a fan of the Hadoken to put a curve.
Well about the amount, as there's more marking the patch should at least correct it. If people from PC cant talk about it... Regarding the patch and if it resolve it at least.

I won't lie, the most i play, the more i lost interest. I miss games when inertia and weight, pace in passes was took in account i'm on the right thread i hope.
Sorry but i couldn't support the critic about one game in particular. I wouldn't have answered > my post was erased after 1 second that makes me laugh, but it was legit, i shouldn't answer to provocation. Sorry, even if i just answered what i thinked/No absolute thruth.

Well it should be good to not provoke people when you don't like for X reasons a game an saying stuffs as if it was an absolute truth. People like me for example to stay on FIFA prefers at least 5 version of Fifa than FIFA 22. For very simple reasons. It's too frantic like some said and too agile. But there's a tons and tons of details.
I got hard to found it fun, even on slow. Too fast. Will probably play with very small teams. Annoying to have to do that.
Thanks that the AI is finally challenging, i will came back thanks to that (what i didn't with FIFA 18-19 and especially 20, erased after 8 games)

Scored 3 free kicks already and 2 headers (1 diving header).
Never scored a free kick goal on Fifa before in my life.
As it stands - I dont really have any issues with the game and I feel that anything I'd say would be net picking.
Obviously Im talking from the perspective of last few Fifas. This is whole next level in comparison.
Im almost afraid to say anything, so it doesnt look like I am never happy with any football game.
I really am with this one.

Online friendly matches are so fluid, even on normal speed they feel great.

Learned to properly execute underpowered through balls (just have to apply more power than you think you should)
Low Shots finally started working for me.
Also managed to lob the keeper, which didnt happen to me in ages.

One thing I noticed - I didnt play for few days, as I was busy. Came back last night hungry for goals and I was demolished by AI. Took me few games to take the foot of the gas and start playing football, not sweatball. This game will punish you severely if you hanging of the sprint button. Using player momentum against them is really well done.

you had me at demolished. 😂

much love, M! 🤗

Before Fifa 18 or 19? Don't remember but i scored tons of FK, on online match for sure (if you play AI you won't get a lot of it)
But i don't remember when they complicated the system, i didn't get it at all. Perhaps score once on 2 full games.
When you don't feel how to do, better to make a pass. Like corners, i'm very very lucky when i score one with the system. But not impossible when you choose a "partner" at all, that's the best way even if it's rubbish, too easy, and no sensation. Well you don't get it with the circle neither.

Another thing i don't get why the change since i don't remember, FIFA 17? Just a simple direction and it was enough no?
I really don't like corners. Almost, Free Kicks seems to give you a feeling, i can totally handle it, but that circle in the middle of nowhere...
Just a question : is that possible to change it to the old system on the parameters? Or it's select a receiver vs dumb circle?

Yes play. I play on the difficulty above professional on pes with manual controls. Why do you get plenty of free kicks but very rarely penalties. To be fair, I don't do many skills with the stick so maybe I'm not teasing the players to make a tackle on me.

Just did exactly this myself. Stropped off after a long frustrating CM session earlier this week but came back to it tonight and it just clicked. Gone back to Matt 10's sliders and will now stick with them.

@Emroth and I started a Champions League this afternoon, the way I used to play ISS Pro Evo (and every other football game) over TWENTY YEARS ago (wish I hadn't looked up the release date).

We play online using "online friendlies". A random number generator picks one current UEFA CL team each, then we play as the other teams in the group to try and knock each other's team out.

We can lock controls to semi (for me) or manual (for him), and even set the game speed to "slow" (though it felt better at "normal" speed when using less assists and when not playing the AI).

Honestly, I had the best time I've had with a football game for a very long time.

I can't really put that into words properly - because I've spent the majority of the last twenty years trying to find a decent football experience ... and ending up back on the PS2 PES's.

It took me right back to being sat in the family living room, doing FA Cups and World Cups every other weekend with friends and family.

The speed felt right, attributes really stood out, I managed to dribble right to the six yard box with Mo Salah and then MISS THE TARGET. @Emroth managed to dink the ball over my goalkeeper's head (who came rushing out and dived low), and also hit a wicked dipping shot from 30 yards nobody expected and the keeper just watched it float in.

My team (Young Boys) felt like controlling players in mud after the electric pace and precision of Liverpool - but two particularly skilful players stood out through the controller in your hand. There were barely any issues I felt, or saw, in comparison to playing against the AI - and it felt like a different world from playing something like FUT.

This game is something really special. I don't even want to say "far from perfect" or "it's still FIFA" because... As @Emroth already said. Based on today's session, I honestly wouldn't change a thing. I would against the AI, but the games we had today... I can't tell you what a joy they were.

Replays could use a bit of work. They are either too short, weird angles, or they simply dont show some important moments.
But the variety of shots, animations and randomness in this game is so nice to watch..

I had an absolute banger of a goal where the ball pinged off the crossbar and for some reason it cut straight to replay (no celebration) a split second after it hit the bar, I didn't even see the ball hit the ground. And the replays were the same, the game couldn't handle my strike

Really great to read this Chris! I've finally managed to snap up a ps5. Hopefully it arrives next week!

The only thing killing this game for me at the moment, is the ping pong, homing missile passing and shooting around around the edges of the area and the 6 yard box. I'm playing on legendary and the gameplay is lovely until the opposition get the ball in that area of the field. It's infuriating. But I'm forgiving it as I'm really loving every other part of the game.

A few annoying bugs, not being able to turn of the pitch wear in career mode. Premier League pitches end up looking like Sunday league ones, and some academy players don't have numbers on their shirts. Sometimes they could at least pretend to show they care about career mode players.

This is why I need to stop reading this thread and/or run my trial down pronto.

You swine, Chris. After this praise I'm now I'm dying to play it even though it's 3.23am; I'm fucking knackered; I'm not entirely sure what you and @Emroth are doing; and I'm indifferent to the game itself.

Really great to read this Chris! I've finally managed to snap up a ps5. Hopefully it arrives next week!
Serie X is a great console... But without exclusivity that interest me. What's great is the retro-compatibility. Exclusive, if there's Gears of War it's a yes, but Forza... I'm not a super fan of realistic racing game so. Halo i never tried and not and FPS fan, play on some very occasionally like DOOM and Destiny (received with my first PS4, sold for a PS4 Pro)

But half of the game i got are Sony exclusive, also the one who interest me (Gow, Nioh 1 and 2 for example, Bloodborne, and i buyed Demon's Souls remastered and got the Ratchet pack for the PS5)
And i compared GOW from PS4 to PS5 holy crap, it's like another game. Nioh was cool too with 60 fps stable 4k. But you need to buy the 1 and 2 pack to have the Nioh 1 Remastered version but not interested : the one i got is aleady stunning with all the effects if you set the game to the mix betwen 30fps stable with higher resolution and 60fps with lower. There's a "between" Action and Cinema you have to choose.
Nioh 2 got an automatic patch to fit with PS5 with texture and all.

I also tried Dark Souls 3 and damn, the game without slowdown and all graphical add is also stunning. For an old PS4 owner, even PRO, many games are literally transformed. Fluidity makes all, + the 4 on my TV absorbed me.
But the most beautiful game i got is Demon's Souls remake. the level of texture for a non used like me as i never got a super PC is superb.

Well the console looked like a tunning 1990 shit from pictures, but in real, i think the console looks cool.
Have fun mate!

Edit : sorry i didn't saw we were on the FIFA 22 thread at all. My bad.

One week with this fifa and I already have more hrs than pes 20-21 combined.
I'm having way too much fun with my libertadores save, career mode save, fut (haven't spent a dime, and so nice to wallop those teams with messi and pele with my martinelli) and seasons which last time I played was on Fifa16.

I'm finding online great fun, who would have thought, which actually is a negative of having stadia

Awesome Chris,

After downloading the trial again, I’m really enjoying my games while the full game installs. The most basic thing I can say is, it’s just enjoyable and I’ve not been able to say that for a long time.
Here’s hoping they don’t cock it up.

I'm very glad to read than most of you, enjoy the game like I did since the beta. The retail game is even better than the beta.

Men this game is a banger, not perfect but it is so fun to play with very differents situations on the pitch! I love it too!

Chris, it's Christmas for me when you said you like it. Thank you for the feedback👍

I was playing against the AI and their striker was dancing at the edge of penalty area, while I was jockeying around and switching between players, trying to close him down and mark his team mates.
Somehow - I tripped one of them, who didnt even have a ball.
Suddenly there's a whistle - penalty.
I didnt even know what happened until I saw the replay. But I did, in fairness, soft tackled one of his mates. It was a clear penalty. I was fuming coz game was really tight and this was pure accident.
Guy walks over, fires a low shot to the corner - saved!

Straight after counter - goal for me.

And the weirdest thing - nobody mentioned this penalty for the rest of the match. No replay, nothing in match recap, like it never happened.

They really upped their game with animations and all the fluid football leading to the goals (or misses).
Its time to show much more on replays.

Ps.
Like Chris said - online friendlies felt fantastic. Big part of it is always down to who are you playing with.
But we did play previous Fifas before (and Pes) and there were always dark clouds over someone in the background. At least one of us was always struggling to enjoy it for different reasons.
Fifa16 was closest to a complete fun-package, although it felt very fast without sliders online.

This, online, is... i really dont want to say perfect... but it is perfect. Providing you'll find a guy who wants to play football of course.

Really wish they had next gen cross play, so we could make Evo league or 11v11 pro clubs.

Reading this, being an offline player to the bone for years, i just hoped it would be possible to use sliders in those lobbies. Man, if that would be possible…
but a great read, knowing you guys are having fun together now.

You can use them on Share Play on Playstation. We played F20 with sliders before. When you Share your game - you share your sliders as well. Its like local multiplayer.
When we played F16 - Share Play was already disabled for this one.

But the thing is - there's no need for sliders online in F22. Game is just nicely balanced. We even changed speed to normal, coz it felt better then.

Personally I even find Slow to be on the faster side, but Normal is just way to frantic for me. I wish there was a way to slow down only the animations without making the players feel like a 100kg sack of potatoes.

I like the game but this hockey passing by the CPU for an easy goal in the box is getting on my nerves. Feels like you are playing online and thats the reason I dont play online because this is not football!

Guys is the newest gameplay update released on XSX and PS5 already ?

Lastly just didn’t had time to play Fifa 22 at all but I am very glad so many people’s are liking the game. If EA will continue such a job on current gen we can have a really amazing gen for football games. Still, I do believe most of the changes in the gameplay happened with FIFA 22 are thankfully to first BIG jump in CPU power from 14 years and I do believe that positive changes in Fifa 22 are just a beginning as potential with these consoles and their cpu‘s are much much bigger. Good times ahead folks.

Personally I even find Slow to be on the faster side, but Normal is just way to frantic for me. I wish there was a way to slow down only the animations without making the players feel like a 100kg sack of potatoes.
But that pace is dictated by passes.
Ping pong passing from AI on higher difficulties creates this madness.
It has nothing to do with the pace of the actual game.
I was talking about online play with someone who wants to play football, not pinball. Thats when this game shines, even on Normal speed.

Offline I always play on Slow, with pass speed reduced and pass error ramped up, along with Full Manual and Professional difficulty.

But that frantic passing is an issue on every football game. Even Fifa16 had to be tweaked to calm AI's madness.

The AI's penalty area ice hockey thing is so similar to how people play online (especially the streamers) that I think it must be deliberate by the programmers. The last FIFA I played for a while and enjoyed was FIFA20 and I don't remember it in that game. I only played a tiny bit of FIFA21. I agree with several others here that it is the one aspect of '22 that grates. Everything else is fantastic.

I played a load of matches with lowered passing and speed sliders (OS sliders as a base) but it seemed to quench the life out of the game.

I went back to default sliders and instead focused on stopping the AI getting into that 'Man City' mentality in the first place, which is more enjoyable and works for me. I've tweaked the sliders here and there since, reached a nice balance and forgotten about them, which is how it should be.

A huge part of dealing with it is disciplined defending. It's easy to drag too many defenders across the box and leave the wide-open spaces for the AI algorithm to notice and exploit. I never bothered with Tactical Defending before in FIFA but I'm a fan now. It nullifies a lot of the churn.
