FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

i bet you on that! 5 bucks! :D
- will be online-only: nope, still offline play included
- digital only: nope, physical disc copies available
- Career being a mode we can buy separately: nope, its included in the disc version that you can play offline! :D

best of 3 wins! are your in?!
Nah you’re alright

All gaming will be digital in time though, these are the last consoles with disk drives.

So I tragically made the leap to FIFA and have to say it's quite refreshing playing a more polished 'Master League'. I'm really struggling with a few things though, even after using some custom sliders. Any pointers from some season pros? I'm playing full manual.

- Through balls are always too weak compared to passes. I simply can't get a consistency when it comes to power bar / pass speed.
- Is it worth sticking to 'Legacy Defending' if I've been playing PES in the last few years? Or best to move to Tactical?
- Low crosses in the middle of the pitch - I simply can't do them!?
- Is the only way to low cross and low shoot is holding Jockey + Finesse?
- I can't for the life of me score/shoot where I want to shoot. Every shot is a lottery. I tried moving to Semi but it's only a little better. How the hell do people aim bottom corner/top corner etc!?

great to hear you tried it! has nothing to do with tradegy! :)

inconsistent power applied i noticed in FIFA titles before. this one is much better in that regard, imo.
i dont use through balls too much because i can rely on the regular manual low passes a lot, but will have a look on that tonight.

- Low crosses in the middle of the pitch - I simply can't do them!?
i press close control (regular on R1, i have it on R2) and the cross button. power determines the distance (plus a bit of height).

- Is the only way to low cross and low shoot is holding Jockey + Finesse?
for low shots i apply less power (shot button) or use the daisy cutter combo (for me that is R2 + L1, regular should be R1+L1)

- I can't for the life of me score/shoot where I want to shoot. Every shot is a lottery. I tried moving to Semi but it's only a little better. How the hell do people aim bottom corner/top corner etc!?
as you are playing on full manual, check the slider values for shooting and passing error. i set mine to pass error 50 and shot error 55 (for a little thrill).

for another method of crossing, you could use double or triple tapping the cross button. thats all i have. :D

Started a career with Leyton Orient, played my first game in the pre-season and was undone by the most embarrassing goalkeeping I have ever seen in my life, the goalkeeper curled into a ball rather than make an attempt at a save. This happened twice and nullified my only goal. I think I will have to get a goalkeeper with better stats in right away or the season is over before it starts.

As a veteran FIFA career mode manager in the lower leagues.
Buy as much pace in the final third as you can afford, it doesn't matter if they can't shoot, they are all donkeys in front of goal in L2.
You will just create chance after chance after chance and eventually score a couple every game.
Signing a good keeper is pretty much irrelevant in League 2, better places to invest the money.

Simply can't find the words to describe how much I enjoy this game! I am stunned how deep individuality is and how much impact it has on the game. Every team and tactic is another world. Previous years I get bored after 4-5 days of fifa but this is completly different. I get that old pes feeling to play just one more game. For anyone who want to try I will post the video with sliders I use on my ps5, playing fuma, world class difficulty, normal speed and default camera (not fifa 22 default cam). Will wait for the patch to drop and start carrer mode. It's so rewarding to play with teams that are not from top tier. Everton for example, Docoure and Allan are really really difficult to beat, I manage to close down star players with them. I enjoy how ai is trying to find another way to attack when you close the gaps properly while defending. I am off playing... :D

- Is it worth sticking to 'Legacy Defending' if I've been playing PES in the last few years? Or best to move to Tactical?

Tactical: Press the button and the defender automatically jockeys close to the attacker but without tackling, you have to let go and manually make a challenge.

Legacy: Defend just like tactical but by manually using the left trigger (Jockey). Press the button to go for a challenge (Pes style).

So the way I see it, you can do both anyway, there's just a change to what you can do manually or automatically so it's kinda personal preference. However with tactical defending you also get an additional standing tackle command so that is a plus.

And I'm not playing 22, this is just based on previous games. But in general in fifa you have to cover space more and be on the lookout for runs and passes because the AI is quite good and spamming press can do more harm than good. In the past I've only used legacy BUT I'm manually jockeying most of the time.

i like your sliders. feels better than the community sliders from operationsports. thanks.

WTF just happened in my career mode haha
AI got a "indirect free kick" in the penalty box and my player got a red card, I tackled him on the line just inside the box, when he was crossing the ball. Funny thing the ai positioned himself outside the pitch, taking the free-kick, and my wall stood behind my goalkeeper haha must be a Bug. I was looking on the fifa forum and found a almost identical situation from some other user posting it..😄 never experienced these type of things myself before. Also lost the game 3-0, one of few, vs Leicester😄

I’d bet you on this too!
You honestly think the PS6 etc will launch with archaic blu ray drives in 5-6 years time?!

I’ll definitely take that bet - it’s all going digital mate, Phil Spencer confirmed this in an Xbox presser last year.

I have to say that the one thing letting this game down is the defending. It's so frantic and your players defend so deep.

I find myself enduring way too much of the defending trash about just to sample the rather glorious attacking and shooting in particular.

Changing tactics helped a lot with this for me , going from Liverpool's default to 4-3-3 false 9 but attacking and they don't go as deep , also you can instruct your players to step up

Thank you, i really appreciate. Since FIFA 20 i have made my own sliders. I play with the standard sliders and I changed after 3 matches and if it's ok i'm looking for the next sliders.
It takes me 1 week

you said: “these are the last consoles with disk drives”
I stand to what I said. :)

The PS6 and Next Box won’t have disk drives. Easiest bet I’ve ever had.

edit: Unless you’re saying the PS5 Pro etc will have disk drives - I agree these will. But I meant this generation being last time we see disks, you’re being pedantic

oh socc that shXX! ;)
the sport is called Football! fact. end of discussion! :D
More information about why some country (well all with already a "Football" game based on an advanced Rugby with helmet and protection) call it "Soccer"
I heard that it was the very first name, but didn't checked more longer : it was in fact the name of the very first association of football

Check here it's interesting:

My least favourite aspect of this FIFA too I have to say, but I am getting to grips with it more as I grow used to Tactical Defending (first time I've not switched a FIFA to Legacy Defending).

The most unattractive part of defending is when the AI performs those fast-switch passes around and inside the box, when multiple opportunites to shoot present themselves. That always looks and feels poor compared to the rest of the gameplay. Previous FIFAs I've played a bit never had this tendency to the AI (that I remember anyway). I notice that many of the Ultimate Team streamers play in exactly that way, fast-switching it Harlem Globetrotter-style etc, so I wonder if there's an element of the AI design evolving to meet what the EA marketing people would perceive as their default style of player?

Can someone advise how to save controller settings, not as temporary settings? Every single time I run the game I have to change the controller/game settings over and over again (or even every game), which makes me fucking fuming.

Why they made some things so complicated?

EDIT: PS5 by the way.

That never happens to me mate?

The first thing I do with every FIFA game is go to settings in front menu and set up your controls there. Saves you having to do it all later.

Kick Off mode (friendly matches) used to be a separate entity though which is stupid - your controls there would be different until you ALSO changed them there. Pretty weird.

@VuZet you have to set your setting on the menu > settings etc. but not from a match.
From the first UI with all included on. It's like that since forever in fact.

But as i gotted my account but skipped the 21, usually all my "old" settings where saved from my Fifa "account". At every new buy, when i'm connected my old configuration was directly imported and saved from the latest version before (Example from 17 to 18). Not this time.
Or perhaps it's because it's on PS5, i'm not sure if from FIFA 20 the settings were still on their "database"...
Not a big problem, but i don't get why camera settings only are still saved.
Ah and if you use R1 to run : don't forget to change one important thing > turn off the "analog run" i don't know if it's the good name in english, correct me.

Yeah, when they are dancing around with fast moves and passes..played Liverpool tonight, got so frustrated, suddenly it became so much harder than playing against weaker teams. Too big difference, home I won but now on Anfield I had to restart 3 times, raged haha even the 3rd time I had 3-1 and lost 4-3..same vs Man United last night but I managed to get a draw in the end. But I think we have to change tactics, instructions etc more often in-game and drop back..otherwise it's really hard. I really wanted a bigger challenge on World class, begun to feel a bit easy, it's like they heard me 😄 even Newcastle took a point from me today. Don't know if it's cause the season is nearing it's end and scripting start to show haha but some games felt tougher and my pass error I set to 75 begun to have an impact in some games, plus it rains all the time🙂
