FIFA 20 Discussion (Console Versions)

While im not a fan of teicks espcially every player being able to do them wtf... but look at those animations slowed down they look amazing and so fluid. What happens with gameplay and from gameplay cam then? How does it go so wrong.

Futsol?..Thought I was watching a Ronaldinho tricks collection..Exhibition stuff that your rarely see in a premiership or European match..

Folk are going to be spamming these..

I wish that love would be applied to ball physics and ground passing..In all honesty I think EA have lost the plot..

Few days ago you were talking about Rutter

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/fifa-boss-david-rutter-departs-ea-sports-studio/

It seems he now is going to be the manager for EA Europe and DICE.

Wow! Talk about front-loaded and a highly unstable/false overall valuation:

"Net revenue from Ultimate Team accounted for roughly 28 per cent, 21 per cent and 16 per cent of EA’s total net revenue during its 2019, 2018 and 2017 fiscal years respectively, “a substantial portion of which was derived from FIFA Ultimate Team"

No wonder they dig their heels in with Ultimate Team & Surprise Mechanics (tm). Regulation comes in and they will have quite the task on their hands.

That just looks so.. glidey.. So floaty and twitchy.

Visually it looks stunning but what drives me mad about this particular footage is how on earth anyone can play with so much shit on the screen?

Who could possibly be contempt with playing with all those "trainer prompts" & other ghastly on screen elements, Looks like an MMO game or something.

massive turn off for me when i see videos like that

It is part of FUT, which is why I don't touch it..
I been watching football for about 30 years and never seen anything like those tricks in a match, unless being a testimonial.

Unfortunately this is the way FIFA has been going.

But I will not judge gameplay until I actual play it, as when viewing videos they all look the same, as when everyone seems to play the same online, pass to a player and run in the acres of space always available and then do a very trick passes and blast in the top corner as your passes and shots don't miss on full auto.

To me it looks better than I expected.
Unfortunately - weightless players and complete lack of physicality is taking its toll there. If there were proper collisions and you could see some sort of aggressive defending - id play it.

Fifa is strange in videos, We have seen a few vids now in that the players look as if they have a bit of weight to them now but then other videos they look totally weightless with awful movement. Guess we are not really going to know how they handle until the demo.

Oh you break my heart Em.
I agree with Mafia here, it looks so glidey, floaty, light, skatey.
One would think that EA being the monster that they are, could set a new standard in sports games and specially franchises so big such as FIFA, NFL, NBA, etc. Implementing a real time foot-planting engine or mechanics or whatever, that would establish the benchmark for years to come.

Instead they go and do the opposite.
Hey, let's make players moonwalk accross the pitch!

Says a lot about my expectations.. ;)
I've seen few clips from volta before and it was like NBA Jam back in the day. This clip had some passes, missed shots, some sort of a "build up".. Hence I was surprised.

Unfortunately Fifa doesnt seems to be doing anything for me this year. I dont think I've seen one clip, where there was some physicality involved. Most of tackles are gentle like they were playing with children. Sad to see, especially since Fifa used to have this over the top collision system before, which to me - was way more fun than this.

Let’s be honest...it looks like absolute horse sh*t.

And this is from someone who has enjoyed FIFA far more over the last 10 years than it’s competitor.

The simple fact of the matter is, EA are terrified of giving us a realistic, slow, weighty experience. The FUT kids want wonder goals, basketball style end to end matches and easy gameplay.

No amount of sliders will fix the awful core gameplay or make the game difficult enough in Career to enjoy.

It’s beyond a joke now but EA won’t give a crap because it sells by the bucketload.

Some vids look terrible, some look pretty good. My concern is that they're both on the same build, and that it's just a case of the engine being way too random (sometimes I play games on FIFA 19 that feel like a "supercharged" switch has been flicked, and replaying the same match, it suddenly plays normally).

Either that or the scale at which physical attributes come into play needs to be tuned (i.e. a speed of 90+ is represented by players faster than F1 cars), and that's something sliders can do, thankfully.

I'm over the disappointment of the game being nowhere near as realistic as it could have been (especially after seeing the first beta). Because - as I posted the other day in the FIFA 19 thread (please read) - my experience (including gameplay) with 19 was generally so good that I'm still excited for 20.

Even if it's only slightly better, then I'll have a better time with it than I think I'll have with the other game (which, to me, represents Chess Football and not Real Football - compare gameplay videos with a real game and you might see what I mean, PES has players standing still all over the park at times, whereas the plays that unfold in FIFA, including defensive lines not being 100% perfect all the fucking time and allowing for some great counters, look far more realistic, in my opinion).

No fouls is a killer, and having got used to the PES demo, it's impossible to ignore it now and I think it's impossible to defend, if we're being honest.

But to throw away AI variety, tactical variety, goal variety and being able to really own your goals (that "jump out of your seat" feeling) due to your input being so important/contextual (without resorting to "every shot's a stunner" manual), and ball physics creating a greater range of possibilities (with assisted shooting I can miss a shot so badly that it goes out for a throw-in, rather than it always being ~10ft wide on either side)...

It's just about what's more important to you, and what you can "cope" with. Both games emulate different parts of football, and it has to be that way because a 90 minute game is being compressed into 10 minutes. If I can increase that to 15 and use sliders to increase pass error etc. to suit then... Great.

I just need to get hold of a demo. If rumours are to be believed, it hits a couple of days after PES releases.

You’ve summed up why I haven’t properly enjoyed Fifa for a few years now (the part I’ve bolded.)

The game is all over the place. You make a good point about the other game too I have to agree. But despite its many flaws I like it this year.

FIFA 19 can be enjoyable at times but it’s far from realistic and the FIFA 20 footage looks to be more of the same. Again, it’s all over the place. I really wished they’d adapt a new defending mechanic now, tactical defending is absolute garbage and it makes the back four (or back 3) drift all over the place. It’s so unnatural looking when trying to defend in Fifa.

I love the new defending mechanic of the other game, really makes me think.

To each his own obviously. I really didn’t like the other game’s demo at all at first but now can’t stop playing.

I’ll play Fifa 20 demo of course, I do hope it’s slow. I just wish I found the game more difficult in single player, it’s a deal breaker for me.

That and fouls are the two biggies, I think. As I said in my FIFA 19 experience post here, I ended up dropping the difficulty in my career mode's Euro 2020 tournament because I didn't manage to beat a single team in the group stage. So I feel pretty lucky that it's not too difficult for me.

A lot of the difficulty problems could stem from the stupid "form" issue - i.e. you can lose five league games in a row and your players will still get "up" form arrows and huge attribute boosts.

I think that's why the international matches feel so difficult to me - because the form arrows don't have time to develop. (It also shows that the AI don't get any "form arrows" because all your international players from other clubs arrive without them - another reason why it's so imbalanced.)

FIFA 20 has removed the form arrows system, and replaces it with "dynamic potential". There's a chance this will help difficulty. But it's only a chance, because it might be as insane / broken as 19's form arrows are.

Either way, I guess you'll know if it's too easy for you from the demo, where you won't have anything like that affecting the gameplay. Let's cross our fingers...
