FIFA 20 Discussion (Console Versions)

I think you're somewhat confused. Or at least I think differently.
FIFA 17, 18, 19 and 20 are cut from the same cloth: Frostbite. The foundation is the same. The movements are the same (some new animations included with every new release, but the basics are the same).

FIFA 16, 15, 14 were a different thing: Ignite.

So when you say FIFA 16, 17 and 18 have better animations than 19 and 20, it throws me off. Either you don't have to include FIFA 16 in that group. Or you shouldn't include any of the rest you mentioned.

Animations and overall movement mechanics are far, indefinitely fat better on pre-Frostbite Games. But specially in FIFA 16.

I know and agree with most of what you're saying, Frostbite started the decline of realistic player movement i.e physics in motion, momentum mechanics, even ball physics etc. and started this unrealistic (some define it as "Janky") player movement due to EA's obsessiveness to player input to resulting action or simply put responsiveness. My point was that it wasn't bad at all in Fifa 17 and slowly got worse as the consecutive iterations came to be. Almost like they consciously removed the blending between animations and made the tailing off of animations sharper over the years. Fifa 16 and Fifa 17 were truly amazing games there is so much wrong with the current state of FIFA right now its hard to see how they can recapture the realist balance of play Fifa 16 and Fifa 17 captured so beautifully.

Still think (not comparing to 16) that there's a huge difference between 17/18 and 19.
Been playing those games every other day on my old cm saves.

Exactly! its night and day comparing Fifa 17 with Fifa 19 in terms of player movement, ball physics and player models. I had a look at Luke Shaw's player model on Fifa 20 and almost lost it. Such a shame. Anyways ill stop the off topic chat now, just wondered if anyone else felt as frustrated and disappointed with the direction EA are taking at the moment, hopefully EA somehow stumbles on a good balance of responsiveness and realism to the sport for Fifa 21 because i don't trust the current dev team to consciously curate this.

Jokes aside, I liked that video. Even if it seems to be a tad fast for my liking, I liked some bits.
Rashford's PlayerID seems very good this year in both games.

I like it too. The ball physics looks pretty decent on this. Also I like the the way the AI plays, they are not rushing forward any cost, carrying the ball at their foot when not pressed, playing horizontally, and they are making mistakes. I would love to know the difficulty this is played on. It looks a bit easy for the user to create shooting opportunities.

What lacks for me in this video is physical contact between players. Football is a game of physical contact (among things). Every one that played it once even in a park knows it, their legs remember it. There is almost no contact here like if the players are always waiting for clinical opportunities to still the ball. Without contact you won't get any fouls. But he must be playing on a low difficulty level, isn't he?

A) Fouls will be the same as last year, I'm pretty sure - i.e. there will be none in the middle of the pitch, only a penalty here and there when the AI mistimes a tackle.

B) I would bet he's playing on Professional - I've noticed on a lot of these vids, the AI looks great when it's on Professional (in terms of not being manic, or hitting perfect whizzing first-time passes that break the sound barrier), but it'll be way too easy for the majority of us.

Me and you are very likeminded..You echo a lot of my own sentiments..

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the decline in realism started when Dave ruttler moved on..

Fifa 15 showed so much promise that was realised in 16..and your right 17 was a much better game then the last two iterations.

It’s more then animations though..It’s the gameplay and how the fundamentals have become so watered down the last few iterations.

If you play the unpatched version of fifa19 out of the box..Compared to the updated version now,the differences are almost night and day(it’s like two different games)..

I’ve lost all confidence because however good the demo or final game is it will be patched into hyper football. With perfect first touches and absolutely no error..

I’m also finding the passing physics jarring now and the ball still moves and behaves like one of those cheap plastic ones you buy from garage forecourts.

As far as I know, Dave Rutter didn't move on, he moved up. He has more control, if anything - although not directly.

Yep, here we go: check out this Reuters article and do a CTRL+F for "Rutter".

He is the vice president (of what?) and general manager of FIFA.

Thanks for the heads up and info...

Just to clarify what I was saying..When I talk realism I’m not talking aesthetics..More gameplay..

Back when I was playing fifa15/16/17..Irrespective of Whether I was playing a friend who would use assisted settings against my preferred manual..And Whether they choose to play blitz football or not..

There was just no advantage over the way I preferred to build and work the ball..If anything playing actual football worked to my advantage and I could play through the midfield and pick them off at will..It wasn’t much different with the two previous iterations and I clearly remember spending hours in training just keeping the ball and working it..

Nowadays..It doesn’t matter..it’s just become a game about passing the ball forward as quickly as possible and enjoying the goal rush..The speed is terrible and almost every player has instant perfect control..The passing especially ground passing has just felt off for two years now(it’s doesn’t even work properly on manual anymore).

I’m just not convinced with what I’m seeing..Ignite and whatever came before it imo just produced a more convincing and realistic football game on the pitch(and so did ea back then).Great times!

That's true.
I had the First Touch Error sliders set at in 100 for both Human and CPU and still they barely made any mistakes.

Without looking to take anything away from this Rutter bloke, I can't say I believe that a franchise like FIFA allows for much in the way of auteurism.

I would like to see him return as Game Producer but i guess his pay packet will be insane now compared to 10 years ago and zero chance of it ever happening.

Edit: Got to the end of the video, Really odd ball physics again for the goal.

Unbelievable. The presentation is so lifelike. Everything that happens on the field is almost communicated by the commentator. FIFA is really unsurpassed in this area.
KONAMI really can't beat them with their presentation.
I wish it was possible to copy the presentation and place it in PES.
The lighting in this video is really much better

very good game pace in this video,
many things spot on, lighting, presentation etc
its true that its not in high difficulty
my concern always is that fifa is not challenging enough
and in highest difficulty they lose the flow that exist in lower difficulty
I just can't find a suitable difficulty that the game flow is good but not too easy
for me there are only too easy with good flow and just a little bit challenging but without good flow

Copied and pasted from the journey
To be honest, answering those questions to boost morale is a bit silly and basis
you just need to choose the positive answer and those options are quite positive and reasonable
maybe one of them is neutral that will reduce a little bit morale but why would you choose that LOL

That looks dreadful compared to the last 2 or 3 video's. Just looks like every other Fifa from the past 5 years.
Assistance or not. With FIFA, with or without some options, it looks and plays different.
On this video, it's full assistance for passing and shooting. The player does the same thing. Pass on the side or lob pass, it's boring.
There is no control on passes and few errors, it's impossible on semi or manual passes.
AI is very interessant. It's not Always kick and rush.
The global speed is good but passing is top quick.
