FIFA 20 Discussion (Console Versions)

i have to say something strange, for me Fifa since 15/16 on single player(kick off/carrer mode) its very easy even on legendary/ultimate,when i was playing fifa ultimate team single player divisions i found it hard, for example Profesional on FUT single player division feels like legendary on kickoff/carrer mode,i dont know if its me or someone else noticed this aswell,i am not FUT player btw

As much as I hate to be a part of the problem, I'll buy FIFA 20 and PES 2020 as soon as they hit shelves. In fact, I'll use my EA Premier to gain access to the former a week early. Why? Simple; I need my fix. Even if I think the games will make for a subpar experience, I can't not buy them. I don't have that sort of self-control when it comes to football games.
Me trying to enforce some sort of zero tolerance vision, looks at my HDD on my Xbox
And it reads .
FIFA 14-15-16-17-18-19
Pes 15-16-17-18-19
And also in a drawer ,Pes 10-11-12-13-14 for ps 3.

But I'm deffo not buying PES/FIFA 20..

Ok, when it comes to Volta, i'm interested.

Back in 2008 i wrote a huge list of ideas to EA regarding FIFA street, Volta has seen many of these ideas come true.

Also I'm happy EA have gone back to what thy do best which is arcade, fast, fun mode an Volta will keep people occupied at least until a new engine arrives.

The rest of the game is the usual shit show! I will play this and buy it second hand just for Volta and having fun again with skills and tricks.

BTW the story mode thing again like with the journey is rubbish, its too cheesy and repetitive!

Is that Vs the CPU?
Always thought it was Vs HUM?
I'm not (clearly) a FUT player, and know as much about that as quantum physics
You can play in FUT vs. Com, too. I also think the AI is harder to beat in FUT then in career mode.

exacly,if they make AI like FUT its going to be so hard to win the game,vs Ultimate on FUT vs com its so hard to even score 1 goal, while on normal match you can score 3-4

The AI can get pretty gnarly in Squad Battles. You have to stay on your toes. When I was grinding Squad Battles in FIFA 18, I had to become what I loathed; an exploiter. I would just cheese skill moves (roulettes for days) and other bits of play that I knew the CPU was susceptible to.

Squad Battles is by far the most difficult single player experience in FIFA. I crush Ultimate in CM, but Legendary in FUT SBs are a fucking tough challenge. It's because of the stat boosts from chemistry. And it's why hardly anyone plays on Ultimate in SBs.

The ball physics are absolutely atrocious. It's like some bizarro world version of football.

Came across this near the start of that video and couldn't stand watching any more

Ramos, jumping backwards, heading this 40-50 yards away... What the fuck is that? In 2019 these are the physics of the most popular football game on the market...
but they said ball physics have been completely rewritten....:FAIL:

Ok, I can understand skating and twitchiness, But this is just unacceptable, I'd like to chalk it down to just being a 1 in a 1000 bug but I've seen this a lot in 18 & 19 & realized it didn't make sense but would forget about it1 game later & move on. To see it documented in gif form is eye opening and it's pretty hard to ignore.

Im fairly certain ramos despite moving backwards can head a ball 20 yards.
I'm sure he could if the conditions were correct, But here he doesn't even generate any force or momentum with his head to drive the ball that far. He's travelling backwards, His head is stationary and the ball hits Ramos, not the other way round.
By this point the ball has struck twice before, once by the corner taker, the 2nd by the Chelsea attacker - Each time the ball should lose more momentum than before and by the time it hits Ramos's forehead, It should be more of a cushioned impact and go maybe no further than 5 yards, Instead it conjures up this magic momentum and is shot from a cannon 25 yards away.

Now that's either because of an innocent miscalculation in the ball physics algorithm or it's a devious form of scripting and the CPU had to clear the ball because chaos was about to ensure the box because the ball was about to land in the mixer.

Wild guess, but maybe it's simply pressing shoot to clear the ball. Yes it's a cpu player, but the cpu does have an active player, just like the human side (you just can't see the "active" player) and it basically uses the same commands/input available to you to play the game. Physics make absolutely no sense of course, but it's hardly uncommon in 18/19. Game tries too hard to "obey" your commands no matter if the animations and your body position make sense or not. There are many passes/shots played where the animation simply does not match and you're left wondering "where did that power come from?".

It feels and looks awful, and again I think it comes down to people complaining about "responsiveness" or the game ignoring their input. When the animations obey the laws of physics people complain about responsiveness, when the animations make no sense people see scripting :)

I get that people say they want control and 100% agency over the actions of their players on the pitch but when this happens, Stats may as well not matter because individuality goes out the window as the digital players aren't completing a command to the best of their assigned skill set and ability, It's the human player and his skill with his hand eye co-ordination. And then when that happens, It's no longer a "football game" - It's a game based on football.

It's funny because it's from the AI too. (I know you said the AI would naturally share the same input & commands as the player) So it's not like this was some compromise from the devs to hold the hand of the human player and prevent any feeling of negativity and that everything is a sunny meadow in a football game, This was the AI, should the header should've been a "miss-hit" resulting in danger for the AI - That's just football for you, Not everything is a perfect decision and perfect resolution.

I've posted this over on the FIFA Reddit to try and get it some traction. I doubt it'll work, but... more people need to see this shit. If FUT guys complain, it'll get looked at.

In slightly happier news, this looks pretty decent. From Gamescom, v Professional AI (beginning to think a lot of issues are just difficulty level related, we NEED to be able to customise them more):

This looks decent. What have they changed? Camera to co-op?

Yeah, that's what i say when i still see Fifa's ball physics as unnatural.
I don't understand, sorry?

Camera is Tele, he switches to it before the bit I've started the clip at. He sets the height pretty low and the zoom pretty high.

Speed is set to "normal" and sliders are default.

It's so weird. I made a split-screen comparison of the IGN vid versus the Gamescom vid last night, and I had to eat my words. The speed is identical. It's just the FUT guys who button-spam at Gamescom making it look different...

Can't see him switch to "slow" or anything else, or adjust sliders or anything like that.

I mean i still see Fifa's ball physics as unnatural even in Fifa 20 videos, despite them saying they have been improved.

Ah, yeah, I agree. Ground passes still accelerate / decelerate like cannonballs (or, as someone said before, like the ball is made of glass) but not all the time, which is the frustrating thing. In vids like the above, there are moments where the ball moves normally, takes bad bobbles etc... It looks much better half the time, and exactly the same the other half of the time. Certainly headers are exactly the same.

Maybe it's that horribly overpowered "power pass" modifier, or whatever it's called. I wish they'd just remove that from the game if they can't get it under control. Whenever the AI uses it, it's like they access a different physics model to you and they start firing passes like bullets...

I'm definitely in for FIFA if that's the final speed on normal!

How do I make the game harder though?

Well that's the problem isn't it, you can't - take a look at that "is FIFA too easy" video I linked to the other day. That guy is giving the AI sliders that favour them, turning down their pass error etc. and that makes the game harder, but at what cost? The AI playing robo-soccer, the likes of which is impossible in reality?

That being said, 19 isn't too easy for me (and @rockstrongo is enjoying 19 again) on Legendary, with balanced sliders (i.e. no advantages for the AI), and you've always got semi passing and a lower difficulty as an option (but I'm not a big fan of that because suddenly you're finishing every game with 70% pass accuracy while the AI stays at 90%).

I'm so wary of sliders, mate. The game always feels wonky as hell to me after messing around with them.

I just want a challenging, slower FIFA out of the box.

As I suspected, this thread isn't going down well. If anyone with a Reddit account wants to get in there, feel free to give it a lift, but it's being negged to hell. They're not interested...

If that last vid I posted is the speed on "normal" (and it will be for me because I'm not a button-masher) I don't think I'll need to set the speed down to "slow", which would be nice. That would mean less slider faffery, which means less ugly side-effects. I'm a little bit more hopeful now.

But that's largely because I don't find the game too easy (but I accept everyone else does) - if anything I find the AI does too many stupidly impossible things on the harder difficulties (never taking a touch and just insta-smashing passes forwards, never even having to look up to see the man they're passing to), even though they then don't take advantage of it by scoring (and their defence is usually far too passive).

FIFA players are usually idiots mate. Waste of time. The FIFA Careers SubReddit is a better crowd.

True, balance between your stats and the CPU is always tricky.
I've found a good balance atm with assisted/semi/manual (pass/through ball/cross)
But mainly staying the F..away from the premiership.

My Valencia (top 4-5) team has around 78-81% passing (5 games)
CPU (mid table and a bottom team 76-80%)

That has never happened in the PL.
So I'm enjoying it a great deal,5straight wins (and it should be 5 straight wins).
Test is coming up Vs Athletico M and Barcelona.
Can I have a challenge and decent stats there, then it's a solid game.
Nevertheless, enjoying it a great deal.
Btw tactical or Legacy defending is also important when talking about an easy game

Best video by far! Still a little janky but i'd actually go as far as saying that looks good. It also looks like the players now have weight to them and is not like controlling a angry wasp.

Hopefully we can put some angle on the camera view, I've always used tele but i feel it's too straight on and needs a bit of angle.

edit: more weird heading ball physics here, Seem to get way to much power on headers for the situation.

Yeah that header looks foolishly overpowered. And so is the one at the beginning of the video (De Bruyne's header).

Hasn't headers always felt overpowered?
Not all the time, but at times, very powerful.
