FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

Played a few games of FIFA 16 at a mates place Saturday night and then a few games of the FIFA 17 demo last night, and one thing I can't get my head around is the defending. It's easy enough switching players and trying to block off passing lanes etc but it seems like the game has been purposely built as to allow attacking players to swivel around you any time you want to knick the ball away. No wonder they make the keepers superhuman, it's just too easy to get shots off. I even knocked it down to Professional and didn't improve it much.

Great game! Hope they don't change anything for the retail version.

What is a 'threaded through ball pass' by the way? I saw that and the new driven low shot is one of the new features. I'm wondering how it's different from a normal through ball.

Anyone?

I also need to know figure out how to pull off the new low driven shot. What exactly is the button configuration for it?

Good video Matt. Thanks for putting it up. Nice and reassuring to hear your commentary on 17, especially about AI and positioning. I look forward to more on this.

BTW maybe that camera angle didn't help the corner ball trajectory look natural? Just a thought.

Thanks, mate. I'm not sure about the trajectory, it doesn't look like that IRL, which uses...obviously...a broadcast camera :D

I think the threaded through ball means there an effort put in to "thread" the ball between 2 defenders but I could be wrong.

As for the low driven shot, you pull this off by powering up your shot as normal and then tapping O (or your preferred shoot button) again before the shot is taken. Also works with finesse efforts.

Plays beautifully on the XBox One. Really looking forward to this.

Not too many radical changes, but then why would there be - it's ultimately a football game and the rules haven't changed too much. Love the low shots now and the midfield tussles.

Happy.

Normal speed on the PS4 feels much too sluggish to me. Been enjoying the demo much more on fast speed.
On fast the game feels like an arcade football game from the 90s

On a side note the AI plays the same against me regardless of the strength of the team its using on Legendary. Its almost like Legendary difficulty = "Forget the stats of the players and the playing style of the team lets even the odds"

Unfortunately that's how legendary has always worked, it's anti football so basically the same as playing online against randoms.

Already bored of playing against the AI now. Bayern plays like Seattle Sounders, there's no difference.

Defending doesn't work in FIFA - they need to go back to basics. Game is still too fast.

I won't cancel my Shop-To order, will keep FIFA 17 for 2v2 play but single player is a chore. It's a shame because I loved it last week. The shooting is my favourite thing about the game and it looks GORGEOUS. But that's not enough for me.

EA need to watch a football match and work hard on the AI. I'm fed up of every single team playing tiki taka. And I can't put it down to World Class (or easier) because it's too easy to break the AI down and score hatfuls of goals.

Meh.

The Demo is too fast and frantic on Normal speed. When are EA going to actually watch real football matches and see it doesn't zoom around at 200 miles an hour?
The default game is too fast and too pass-perfect every year, this isn't new. Sliders fix all that (apart from when the CPU boost AI kicks in), they'll be in the full game.

In other news, I'm just loving this demo!
I love the demo because it looks fantastic. But after playing it for a couple minutes, I love it less and less. And when I switch to my modded FIFA 16 (sloooow game play and CPU boost AI removed), I realize what I actually really dislike about the FIFA 17 demo. But it does look fab...

But this won't help for Co-Op Seasons that me and a mate always play every release. The game will be too frantic which makes defending a nightmare and it will be a pressure and finesse shot fest.

Is this some online mode? I don't play online so I don't know. So you're saying you can't use sliders in online Co-Op seasons...?! Why would you play a game mode that is restrictive to the point where it ruins the fun? Sounds like the same sort of masochistic decision I made when I married my ex-wife.

It is an Online mode indeed and basically all the settings for the gameplay are default when you play that mode including the Game Speed which is annoying! would love to throw it down to slow and would enjoy the game more if I could.

So you play Co-Op against the CPU. And EA has restricted the game mode options and doesn't allow you to adjust sliders to suit your gaming preference. Even though the game has sliders that allow you to adjust to suit your preference. Bizarre, weird and nonsensical.

Sorry no Co-Op Seasons isn't Co-Op against the CPU. Its Co-Op against 2 other players online.

He made perfect sense. You can't change options for any online mode we are stuck with the fast and unrealistic 'normal' speed

Fifa 17 Demo Xbox 360 Mini Review

Only had a few games but I was impressed straightaway how different it felt, (I thought we'd just get a kit & transfer update.) the players feel more solid & first touch errors seem more natural. (Even seen goalkeepers spill the ball.)
And I love how the CPU doesn't seem so telepathic, I was having more success with knock ons for example. And the CPU actually made fouls in 4 mins games!
Not sure about the tiki-taka passing yet, didn't see it in my first game against Juventus, who only had about 75% passing acc but I saw it in the next game against Sounders but I was trying out the dynamic camera for that game.
They've re-cycled cut scenes but I noticed some new animations, I like the chest trap. The 360 demo actually has sliders but I haven't touched them. I'll be buying it that's for sure.

Absolutely right, it plays a very nice game. Gets me quite nostalgic of FIFA 14 because I thought that game was a couple tweaks away from being great.
