FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

You edit teams' tactics before starting your season/career. No switching sides required.

So if planning on doing a PL season, I'd go into the tactics of the other 19 teams and set them as realistically as possible? Admittedly I hadn't thought of doing that before but I'd still argue we shouldn't need to.

Defending is just an epic fail, I can still run through the whole team by just spamming the skill sticks and score and for some reason nobody mentioned it here as a problem.

I suspect you will find most people here don't rely on spamming the 'skill' stick for a start. Defense can be made much more compact and harder with sliders, when they are available. Individuality can brought out much more with sliders too, but it takes some patience to set up.

I think player individuality this year on Fifa 17 is the best by far for instance running with Bale and Robben feels so life like. Dont get me wrong it still needs quite abit of work but it far more noticeable now then previous games.

I love how Bale shoots aswell just feels like I am watching the real Bale at times.

Is there an extra button to press for Bale or Ronaldo to run, because I just don't feel like they are fast enough, players seems to catch them easily or that it doesn't really look like they are running. On PES I can easily differentiate the fast player to the slow one, FIFA needs to understand individuality is very important. Having all players playing the same is just lazy. Stats matter.

The big issue I still have with FIFA is that the game plays too differently depending what camera we use. The default camera makes the gameplay slower but it's difficult to create chances for my attackers.

Tele Broadcast is my go-to camera angle but for some reason the game speeds.

It's bizarre.
i'm finding broadcast zoomed to give better ball speed

I am finding the lack of individuality between teams much worse than previous years (FIFA has always struggled in this year but this demo it is even worse than usual), they all play the sameway and do not have their own defined styles.
when i played chelsea they played different than man united. also tactics can be setup at season startup
The other issue is the button lag. I am a visable delay between me pressing the button and the player carrying out that command.
i'm not seeing this on PS4 could you give more details please

agree we shouldn't need to EA has a large enough team to spare one guy....
i say same thing about sliders EA can make it play right don't leave it to us..
That's the thing, I don't mind that but why do people insist that FIFA is realistic? I just play the game and it's nowhere near that. It's more arcade. The game just plays and holds your hands for you, input lag/delay, cant run to the apposition I want, weird feeling of holding back. There is no feeling of fully controlling the player. I'm not a hater, I used to play FIFA but it's not for me anymore, now it's more about who has more skills and pace, nobody talks about how it lacks an actual build up of a football game. It's more about the offense than the defense, the latter is noexistent, you can just run through them. Sad but whatever, play the game that you enjoy. I was just trying to see why people like it so much.

playing PC or PS4? I see no input lag on PS4.

also with all the negatives you have with fifa, what about the free kick system, collision system, corners and refs.. last i checked PES is behind in this area.
I think the only reason why FIFA feels harder is because the game holds your hands for you, you don't really play the way you want, it's how the game wants. When you play with a person, you will see a lot of goals from both sides and I just don't like that, I don't really think PES 2017 is arcade it has the balance that FIFA doesn't have, if you play with another person you will see it's not arcade. I think if people stop playing PES as if it's FIFA then I think people will appreciate it more, I still see people who play FIFA tell me what to press to do this and that, once they did, they loved the game. People need to learn PES controls, you will realize the freedom it gives you. The player ID and individuality of players kicks in hard. It's not too assisted like FIFA. Again it's just a matter of taste as you said.
when you pass in PES can you run in any direction with the player your passing to?
or just in a straight line?
when you take free kicks in PES can you move your player around before the kick?

this has turned into far too much pes v. fifa for my liking. is there not another thread for that? like one literally titled pes v. fifa? looking forward to getting both but interested in fifa conversation here.

on that note, how do beta users feel the demo compares? was disappointed that sliders are out for the demo and the time limits--played 8 min. halves on beta--have sort of spoiled it for me. otherwise don't think it plays a ton differently, and i'm still feeling it's a significant upgrade on 16. really looking forward to the full game and think i feel a 48-hour flu coming on in about 12 days' time...

Amen to the post evzag16 made. How on earth does this thread Always turn into a FIFA vs PES battle???

Played about 10 games on this demo and it is starting to grow on me.

First some weird things :

In the arena doing the pregame drills there is a lot of stutter. Not a biggie but just not smooth.
During gameplay I also sometimes see some hicups. Like part of the animation is missing. Had it during a free kick where it seems that suddenly the ball was struck.
Probably has to do with it being a demo, hope the full game is just a bit smoother on this part.

Playing on ps4 thought i had some input lag. But i believe it is as somebody posted earlier : you can't shoot unless you are in the right position. I like that as in old version you could should in any position with full power no matter what.

Shooting is great. A lot more zip to it. On 16 all shots had that arch or dip. Now if you strike it well it goes more straight.
It's more realistic in my opinion.
The low driven shot is absolutely fantastic. Scored a few great ones with that and it is very rewarding.
Another big plus : on a hard low cross the striker will tip in the ball instead of going into a full shot animation (as if he was shooting from 30 yards). Very happy cause that Always bugged me.

Playing on pro, the game seems easier than 16. I love the slow pace, even seems sluggish at times though.
The lighting is amazing, especially on night games. Graphics are very nice, faces also great.

I don't ever use the skill stick so can't comment on that. Do notice that it is less easy to dribble past defenders.
I also see less tikki takka from the cpu, even against good teams. They still do it but not as much as in 16.
Now they do it more to create and opening and then do a long pass or long ball. In 16 they just kept doing it without any real intention.

Passing is as somebody posted earlier. Normal pass is a bit slow, but through pass has much more zip. This can be changed with sliders so no worries there.

Not sure if I like the new corner system. Seems very random to me and does not give me the feeling i'm putting the ball where i want.

CPU first touch i perfect. Can be fixed by sliders but not every first touch, and pass too, is perfect.

All in all i like the game. It is a definate buy for me. Paying 60 euro's for a game i play all year (on and off) is well worth the money.....imo.

Out of curiosity, which difficulty do most of you play on for the best experience?

I've always played Legendary because it's the highest but I'm seeing a lot of chat on here about it being a better game on a lower setting. Could someone explain?

Player stats for User vs CPU are balanced on Pro level, on World Class and Legendary the CPU gets successive stats advantage bumps. Example: a CPU player you can run over on Pro, will feel like a brick wall on World Class and the Man Of Steel on Legendary.

Interesting. I've just always been sort of blinded by playing on the highest difficulty and never co suffered things like this. I'll give it a shot.

If you can somehow make the game competitive to you on Professional via sliders + manual controllers you'll be in heaven, that is Fifa's AI at its best IMO.

I only had my eyes open to sliders in 16 a few weeks ago. Made some tweaks and within seconds I noticed AI error, a couple of long balls etc. Nice change.

Although I fully agree with you, I was just wondering...what about going to world class or legend and using sliders to get into heaven? Does is also work that way, or are these levels so different that they can't be changed?

I read alot about it, especially Chris Davies' great posts about this, but have never played the level above pro on FIFA 16. It was simply too annoying the way the cpu was passing the ball around.

The problem is that at World Class/Legendary the AI stops playing "real" football and plays some kind of boosted cheat football and ignores custom tactics and playing styles and the like, you can use sliders to mitigate the laser passing and slight movement boost that the AI gets (eg make AI acceleration a couple of notches slower than yours).

one of my favorite CMs on 16 was on professional difficulty with sliders from the thread here (maybe by hitmanuk? don't remember and too lazy to go look now ) in the eredivisie with feyenoord. found that when i used the same slider set in the premier league it wasn't quite the same, so i think there's something to be said for how the different skill levels across league are impacted by difficulty and sliders.
