FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

I absolutely love this. I can't get over how responsive and clean everything feels.

Just had a really interesting match in Legendary difficulty against Seattle Sounders. There was lots of midfield play and they won 1-0 with a really scrappy goal.

Game looks beautiful as well!
player analog switching as well as everything else is so top notch

I'm absolutely shocked people don't like this game. Slower pace of play, proper positioning, better off ball runs, I've even seen multiple long balls...

Also, at first glance I think they improved the tactics. FOR ONCE, I lost the possession battle in a game, against Man U. Once I upped their speed in the tactic menu, it felt as thought they were looking to counter more, but need to test more.

They may have taken the sliders out because they are still working and improving them. Here's hoping:PRAY:

Omg the input lag/delay on passes is terrible. Feels so off.
Overall game still feels very floaty and lightweight too. There's no oomph in shooting.

I'll still end up buying it because it's the only game that captures the TV style fizz pop bang of the premier league. But I had higher hopes.

so far this is much better than 16.
dribbling, holding the ball is fuckin realistic to me...
responsiveness, presentation the best ....... Need many more games to see.. other stuff..

Really glad you mentioned input lag, I thought it was just me.

I played a great little passing move last night on semi and, for the first time in years, played a through-ball that split the defence and gave the striker (Ibrahimovic) a one-on-one. Pressed shoot expecting him to bury it, and... From the edge of the box to the 6-yard-box, he just kept running and the keeper claimed the ball. He ignored the button-press, for about a second.

That's not something I would ever associate with FIFA.

well, from what i'm seeing when you press the button to pass it doesn't happen until your player is in position. i think it's more realistic this way

Does any one else think this game looks like shit in the default camera.

Those net textures from a distance are fucking awful, not to mention players, pitch, fans. Im stunned.

Inter had 98% pass accuracy against me... oh dear

Pretty much what I expected. Too FIFA to represent football.

** i opened AMD switchable graphics and i put fifa17demo.exe and fifa17config in high performance and also my AMD driver is up to date .. but still same problem !!

What the hell, so players really take 1 sec to pass/shoot? Is there input lag while turning the players too? Omg nightmare it is! I dont want another Pes 14 crap.

First, I'm going to pretense this post by saying I'm pretty much a PES Fanboy, my post probably isn't the most unbiased.

The main issue I have with every FIFA, is still in FIFA 17, every team plays the same. It's always short possession football, with them getting 95% pass completion. It makes games extremely repetitive.

That being said, goddamn it's a beautiful game, by far the best looking football game ever made, animations are fantastic and varied, they change based on the situation, it's great. The driven shot is a great concept, wish PES used it :P

All in all, it's a good game, but still not my cup of tea.

Feels similar to 16 but it's more "fluid" if you know what I mean. More organic, probably due to better transitions from an animation to another.
Not 100% convinced of how it plays, but I've just made two matches so far and both with Sounders against Gamba Osaka so I still need to experiment variety (or lack of).

@Chris Davies, hey mate from what you played is it similar or better than fifa 16.
You're better off downloading the demo than taking my word for anything mate, lots of different opinions in here.

I'd say it will definitely be an improvement (once we get the option to play with the sliders again) given that the AI is more intelligent. The Alex Hunter mode really shows it off - Be A Pro will actually be fun to play this year, I think.

But the core problem remains for me when you're playing as a team - I played as (and against) a different team every time, and on Professional I'd always win, on World Class the AI would have 90%+ possession and play a fast, short-passing game, and on Legendary you've got to compete against "you scored I score" and players passing the ball away if you get within 3ft of them.

Same situation as last year for me - what it does well, it excels at (not just presentation either - I'm talking about physics primarily and the variety of goals), but where it's not great, there's no improvement.

In my opinion, it's FIFA 16 with better graphics and more intelligent AI (but still without variety). Which isn't the worst thing in the world.

It's different to PES, it's a beautiful looking game that plays well. It's just not deep in gameplay terms, I feel no individuality or variation in players. But it offers as much as PES does in it's own way (graphics, set piece innovations, stadia, etc). It's nice to have both game that offer different things, to be honest I look at the pro's in every game more than the con's.

I disagree. I love the individuality in this. The difference between controlling, for example, Pogba and Carrick is world's apart.

I installed and played PES 2017 this morning but can't stop thinking about this after being addicted to it last night.

I won't play it though and will give PES a proper chance otherwise I have wasted 40 quid.

I'm waiting for the retail version, but that game is weird to control in every area due to input lag and to defend too.
I don't feel what i'm doing and the game seems more "visual" than sensitive, player's doing many automatic animations and sometimes feels like an interractive game. The "holding ball" and defensive awareness is what worried me the most against human...

It's more than a feature, essential to master that move and use it in many situation, as well as like acceleration button. That's the way Fifa 17 is conceived to be played i think. Don't know if i'm like it or not... Needs time to digest that and adapt.

BTW Fifa 17 is very good to watch playing, i really like environement and no more plastic lookalike with players and everything, smooth as hell on PS4. Some bugs collision too but it's a demo.

I've lost at my first try, but today wins 4 times a row against CPU on "Pro" (4-0, 4-0) and 2 on champion (3-1, 2-1) with pratically long shoots everytime. Need put the difficulty on legendary.
But the AI in Fifa as always annoyed me, tactical side is not their + as well as your teamates.
When there's an interception in the midfield it doesn't sound like that's because the tactical position on the midfield is upper good, but the miss is pratically always due to a bad position of the pass-receiver, or simply a bad timing pass.

So conclusion of the demo: it's no more than a demo a bit buggy.
With some adjustement on day one patch (input lag, def awareness and contact) it can really be a nice game.
Don't really know it the input lag is the only reason that the game doesn't (globally, not only dribble) feels natural to play.

Edit: i agree with @Chris Davies about some pro and cons especially in that post (not the first one saying it's the same as Fifa 16) https://www.evo-web.co.uk/threads/fifa-17-news-thread.76410/page-63
But i don't feel AI so smart, like i've said below

Great assessment.

We're still in a situation (and maybe always will be) where one game nails one half of things, and the other game nails the other half.

I miss the goal variety when I play PES, and all the stadia and the crowd chants (which aren't insignificant to me, they alleviate that feeling of playing in the same place over and over). But I can't get past the weightlessness this time, or that feeling of "I'm playing the difficulty level, not the team". (It'll be better with sliders, though, I'm sure.)

It all just depends on which half you love, or which half you can't bear. I don't think it's a bad game, it's personal preference.

Hmmmm interesting reviews from all of you. I myself didn´t have time yet to give it a go.

The player individuality was a discussion in 16 already. To me it was okay...could have been more noticable, but I was okay with it.
Whilst I was disappointed with PES 2016, FIFA 16 was a great footy game for me.

But since I´m happy with the PES 2017 demo I don´t know whether I should give that one a go, as I surely will bring myself into a dilemma.
Actually I don´t wanna end up buying both games, but I guess I can´t help it.

As most of all the negative reviews been the same as in FIFA 16 "no player individuality, every team plays the same", I´m quite sure that this year this is down to the broken difficulty levels again.
I never played anything different than professional as it was enough for me, because I started with a weak team from the 2nd Bundesliga and there I didn´t feel the things mentioned above.
And when the team got stronger and professional became too easy I found a sweet spot with sliders, so Placebo is right:
This is useless if there are no sliders.

For sure i'm gonna buy both (PES tomorrow pre-command)
I want to believe at an EA's day one patch that doesn't make the game more arcadey like it was the case with the first Fifa 16 patch.

They needs to fix others things from now on than just make the game faster or whatever else, basing on that demo.

Yeah in the few games I played last night, I thought the crowd graphics were a little blurry on default camera. Will try some different cameras later. I really want to love Broadcast though.
