FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

How have the managed screw it from the beta? The players feel like they are skating at times. Maybe i need more games to get used to it.

#nextyear

Game is quite a nice pace but again same story as 16.

Playing on world class I have over 70% possession in both games and can't score change to 4-2-4 and score immediately..

The pace of the game is good and with some AI tweaks and much better collision it could be OK.. But it is a new engine and never expected much better.

Also quite a lot of generic bugs I wasn't expecting but I am sure these will be patched on release.

Just had 2 games at World Class and Legendary. AI passing is again way too good. I was Real v Man Utd and Utd had 93% completion rate, their best pass rate this season in the real world is 88%...(but maybe I just suck!).

Game feels freakishly like they have spent all their time porting Fifa16 into Frostbite, there is very little difference to 16, it's going to take a while to spot differences, apart from better all round graphics and a few new animations.

I did enjoy the 2 games, AI feels a little less cheaty, and I played at Ultra settings, 3840x2160p unlimited frames in Fifa and set up a Nvidia Inspector profile to externally cap to 60fps to negate the 30fps cutscenes like last year. The game ran smooth as silk.

The in game cursor scaling has now been fixed this year to play 4k+ resolutions, last year it was practically impossible to play in 4K as it was incredibly difficult to see the icon above the players head to see who you were controlling as it was so tiny.

Thanks for your detailed report DrDoooMuk (and your fabulous adboards in other Fifas). Looking forward to hearing others' opinions.

Can't believe you can't change sliders! What are EA thinking?

I absolutely love this. I can't get over how responsive and clean everything feels.

Just had a really interesting match in Legendary difficulty against Seattle Sounders. There was lots of midfield play and they won 1-0 with a really scrappy goal.

Game looks beautiful as well!

I hope they step it up for the final release, coming from two seasons the last two weeks of FIFA 16,and the other demo,to this?
Looks nice, shooting feels really good, that's about it for me.
Hopefully sliders will do the job.
I played 6 games, mainly with inter,vs Juve/Seattle/gambon?/Bayern on WC,and it wasn't much off an effort from the CPU,even gave them space/gaps so they could play direct/long.
Nothing.
Didn't play the 16 demo,so can't compare
I'm disappointed

Tweaked last year using Matt10 sliders. This year if full game is like this demo its not going to need quite as much going over.Playing slow and enjoying this.First game Man C v Inter and CPU scored a screamer in first 5 minutes,City ran out 3-1 winners but had to fight for it
I am quite impressed.
Small tweaks to the game will only enhance it more.

I played a few minutes,10 FIFA ones of "The journey" controlling the whole team instead of just the Alex guy,and I must say,it played good, much better than the kick off mode.
To little time to judge the CPU.

From what I've seen in Beta videos, this seems like it's a bit of an older build than the beta - I definitely saw some things in player movement in those videos that look quite different from what we've got here. So far indications are good - it seems like a crisper version of 16. Players seem a bit less awkward, I haven't seen an of the crazy 'hook tackles' as I call them (using legacy defending) yet, nor have I seen signs of ADD (where players you don't control completely ignore the ball). Crossing seems a lot better. Sadly, this year you can't adjust sliders in this demo, and I only ever play offline friends - last year I bumped passing inaccuracy, first touch error etc way up, so can't experiment with that on the demo. Definitely encouraged after a couple of games though.

Had another couple of goes on it earlier.

On Professional I'm not being pushed, on World Class the AI has 90%+ pass accuracy and most of the possession (because there's not much point constantly chasing them down), on Legendary the AI has less pass accuracy but players become untouchable and the minute you score, their equaliser is coming. Same old story.

I scored a great goal (semi-shooting) where Fernando SMASHED the ball against the post and the sidespin generated took the ball behind the goalkeeper and into the net. That kind of stuff is what I still play FIFA for, the physics can be excellent.

But saying that, the goal I scored previously showed the guy's right foot hitting the ball by going THROUGH his left foot. The animations are bonkers - it's as if they've made the decision to disconnect footplanting etc. from the gameplay a little more, which I don't like, because players feel weightless, the ball feels weightless and it's really offputting, especially on "normal" speed (there's nothing normal about it).

HOWEVER...

The saving grace for me, surprisingly, was the Alex Hunter mode. Not because of the story elements or any of that bollocks - couldn't care less about Alex Hunter and I wouldn't play the mode in the retail version. But playing Be A Pro style seems much improved. The AI, on your team and the opponents', seems a lot better, and your rating isn't just a case of "you didn't score with that shot so your rating has dropped". It actually takes into account whether you made the right decision given your options, whether you were greedy shooting in a specific instance, or calling for the pass, or whatever it might be.

If I buy it, it'll be for that, I think. But I'll give PES 2017 a chance to become repetitive before I do, because overall, this FIFA demo feels really disappointing to me personally and I can see it getting a kicking in the reviews (and honestly, I hope it does, because a sharp Metacritic drop will be the only hope that EA ever take truly upgrading the gameplay seriously, seeing as sales will never drop, thanks to the hook of FUT).

Beautiful graphically, fantastic immersion with things like Stamford Bridge lit up and the chants kicking in at just the right moments (Rooney scoring and then the crowd following it up with "Rooneh! Rooneh! Rooneh!"). But it feels really weird to control, IMO.

Just my two cents.

Don't seem to be tattoo's in it apart from Messi and a few on the necks of some players i hope there is an option to add but i know there won't be.

I know what you mean Chris and i can tell you the Beta wasn't like this the players felt right just like the Fifa 16 demo.

Initially I was enjoying myself but I'm starting to see the two (related) problems that caused me to hate 16.

1) Magic tiki taka passing. I just beat Inter 3-1 with City on World Class, I had 57% of the possession but they had 95% pass accuracy. I only won the ball with tackles except for one interception from a cross. The AI just always picks the right pass. Couple this with...

...2) Lack of teammate defensive AI. In 16 this was really bad, your AI controlled defenders wouldn't even stick out a leg at a pass rolling right by them. I haven't seen this happen yet but the AI defenders seem reluctant to cut passing lanes and mark attackers. Players are usually 5-10 yards open to receive a pass. I'm not up for another battle with sliders to fix these issues. I'll try another few demo matches but since I've enjoyed the PES demo I may just play that for a few months while Matt10 and others take a stab at fixing Fifa.

So this is the version we beta testers liked. Slower and more tactical. I seriously hope they keep it this way. I fear the second version of the demo is not what the final game is

Great summary Chris. PES is really the better game to play football.
