Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

TBH I was thinking I should post about the AI, really impressed with them, move the ball around well, can be forced to panic and hoof it if you're patient and close down the space properly etc :)

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

Guys on the EA boards were going spare about the 45th and 90th minute goals the AI scores.

I'm yet to see it.

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

Same, don't think it's a problem despite being reported for year, thing everyone seems to forget is the 45th minute and 90th minute are usually about 5 minutes long due to injury time ;)

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

I like the fact the HT/FT whistle can be blown even when the ball is in the penalty area. As in time is up, it's over.

Also, hearing a patch is already on route or for day one release to fix the overpowered headers and finesse shots - although again, haven't experienced these.

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

Yeah that happened to me last night in my 0-1 defeat.
I got a corner in 3rd min of added time, it was half cleared and I was just about to dink the ball back in the box and the ref blew for FT.
Brilliant.

I try not to use finesse shots. I think ive done one in about 15 demo games.

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

Will the AI go all out in the last 10 mins when losing like in 13?

Didn't notice it in the demo.

happened loads of times to me in the demo and more often than not it felt as though i had little input in stopping it

I scored a rocket of a header with Buruk Yilmaz completing his perfect hat-trick on his spurs debut!

Last night was really impressive, it was genuinely one more game, then another before bed, and kept me off GTA.

I am really enjoying this game.

Agree! Finally they inserted an AI in Fifa, i´m enjoying the game against CPU for the first time since Fifa 09! Playing on World Class with only one change in sliders for CPU pass error to 67 and CPU pass speed to 60, getting very even pass %. another thing is that this year is finally possible to tackle the CPU on World Class, i´m having some games with even more tackles than the AI, that shows how they are much less super-humans in 14.

That sounds very promising! I hope they don't change anything from this early release to the actual final game.

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

I'm happy to say I was wrong about Goodison Park! One of the sides look pretty nice, stand close to the pitch, I'm a bit more uncertain of the other side, if this is how it really is at Goodison, but anyway, a lot better than suspected. Have a look. :)

Looks OK. :) Have they fixed that problem with other stadiums? It's no huge issue for me, but it is definitely a 'back of the mind' niggle that I'd like gone.

Far too often in Fifa 13, you get one on one situations, or the defensive AI line is all over the place. What's it like this year? If that aspect is improved, it might just be the last thing I need to know before committing to buying Fifa 14.

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

In the manual search you should still be able to search for the stuff you could essentially find on wiki, height, strong foot, approximate value etc. So say I'm after a new young CB I should be able to search say CB, right footed, >6' 2", £0-£1m, and then I see a few basic stats but need the scouting to refine if it's a player I want to buy.

Except that online you can - or at least you could for past FIFAs - find a player's OVR, potential, and ALL their stats.

So unless I'm trying to make things harder on myself - especially considering I typically play with lower league teams and they start with shitty scouts and don't have the money to upgrade - using online databases to research players will be even more advantageous than it already was.

If EA were smart, they would've found some way to make player stats somehow variable from CM to CM, so that online databases aren't as accurate, thus not as effective.

Like I said, it's still early and maybe I'll come to like the global scouting network. But bringing in new talent has always been a bit of a crapshoot in FIFA before, even when we had access to player stats, so I'm just wondering whether making this aspect of CM even more difficult was the best way to improve CM.

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

I have played over 30-40 matches online and offline

the only problem I have with the AI on world class is they dont take long shots, they dont foul enough, they try chipped balls over the top way too much vs Newcastle in career they tried about 4 times in a row :/

but everything else seems fine to me despite the niggles i mentioned im really enjoying the game overall and it keeps me coming back

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

Well I seem to be getting the mojo back, just won 5-1 in my first league match at home to Bournemouth professional/manual, so probably try world class next *gulp*. In my last match the AI conceded three penalties for fouls in the box, missed one but scored two, so definitely an improvement in AI fouling!

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

It's a poor review, all things considered. By that I mean the content.

Plenty more here, though:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/fifa-14/critic-reviews

Averaging 86% from 19 reviews currently on MC.

Metacritic is one of the least reliable places really, most reviewers in reality don't really review games as they should, one of examples is total war: rome 2 recently where reviewers praised highly but got slated hugely by total war community and GTA IV is top 2 i believe rated games of all time according to it.

Not saying anything about the game but when it comes to reviewers/metacritic, just switch off.

Yeah, I can vouch for that. Rome 2 is currently at beta stage at best. The most reliable reviews are of course reader reviews, so that's what I'll be waiting for.

I noticed last year that the top teams would shoot too much, while the lower teams tried to pass the ball into the net.

One thing about Fifa 13 that was a bit strange - when playing against a lower league team away from home, they always seemed to up their game. OK - maybe that was EA trying to replicate the fact that lower teams do sometimes raise their game against the big teams, but I felt it was a bit overdone. What are people's impressions of that aspect this time round?

I used to find in Fifa 13, playing lower league opposition in the cups to be much harder than Premier League teams. Really anoying.

The emotional engine logic isn't coded into in the demo, but the CPU strategy logic is. In other words, the 45/90 minute attack logic did happen in the demo; it's just not very noticeable because the CPU doesn't also go into hyper-attack cheat/boost mode (emotional engine) like it does in the full game.

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

That's seems to be a coding issue this year actually. In FIFA 13, creating a CPU team of long shot specialists would result in a ton of long shots, way too many actually. I've done the same with the demo and the CPU will barely hit 1-2 a game.

I have only played about 6-7 games, but have still not had a single one on one against the opposition, but they've had a couple against me (due to my own crappy defending, mind you). But I'll echo the sentiment voiced above here, I haven't really seen the opposition take any long shots yet. And curiously, for myself, 5 out of the 6 goals I've scored have been headers. But all goals have looked good and realistic to me so far. :)

Re: FIFA 14 - Game related talk only!

I haven't tried the full game or even the demo yet, but can anyone tell me if they've fixed the biggest gripe that I've had with FIFA for the past 2 years... the lack of fouls by the CPU AI? FIFA 11 was probably the last game where they actually foul realistically, IMO the fouls or the lack thereof in 12 and 13 was ridiculous enough that I stopped playing it and sold it (I mainly play single player so this is a killer).

Do keep in mind that I'm not much of a dribbler, I know you can draw fouls in 12/13 if you dribble around enough but I'm just not the type to do so (not that I pingpong it either, I do mix in some dribbles here and there). The AI didn't foul enough through the normal course of the game over the past two editions IMO... Didn't help that the AI started to dodge slide tackles like magic starting in 12 either... Do the AI in 13 foul enough throughout the course of a normal 6 minute half games? And do slide tackles actually work this time?

IMO it's kind of ridiculous how they don't have the sliders for foul sensitivity yet when it actually would be one of the most useful slider in there... different referees don't count, I never really saw enough of a difference with that...

Bought the PC version from Nuuvem.br for £17.75, seemed rude not to at that price. Pre-loading now.

If you have the PC version I can tell you how to edit the game to get more fouls. Or I can send you my edited db. My CPU teams average 8-11 fouls and 2-5 cards per game, including plenty of reds. PM me and GO LEAFS!

From who? Any more established sites doing it for that price?

What's the atmosphere like in the game? In Fifa 13, there was a rush of excitement from the fans, but only when the ball entered the penalty area. Nothing for when a winger breaks away from his man, nothing for a beautiful 60 yard cross field pass - what's it like this time round. And have they added any more categories to the custom chants section? A few more categories open to all teams, not just the favourite team, such as winning, losing, top of the league etc would really improve the feature.

It's much better now, if you overhit a pass away from home the fans of the home team jeer you etc.

There are more categories for your favourite team such as what the crowd chant when you're winning/losing (I believe they're new?).
