Fifa 13: Career Mode Discussions

Definitely those two then are worth considering if you want someone quick/skillful, they aren't the strongest/tallest though so I'm finding them a little soft for the Championship but they're the kind of fast skillful player that are great as subs to bring on when the opposition are tired :)

I should have been more specific I guess, sorry! I'm thinking at least 65 rated players :)

I got Lukaku on loan second season as newly promoted to Ligue 1 RC Lens. He was 75 and is now 77, but due to his medium/low attacking and defensive workrates I'm not really rating him - seems happy to collect his hefty weekly wage and do little else! :CONFUSE:

Another gripe I'd like to flag up is why are they still forcing us to forfeit matches if we have an injured bench? In football manager it is no problem to just name a half full bench if you are undergoing an injury crisis so I would presume this is the case in real life? Just had to forfeit a relegation six pointer because about 4 players got injured the match before :(

Agreed this needs sorting out, it's alright when you have a big club and afford wages for extra players but it's too expensive when competing in lower leagues. To try and sort it you could reduce user injury rate to about 10 which should do the trick.

Anyone else hate the lightening for night matches? pitches yellow and too bright. They did improve day time matches considerably though and they look much better.

Yep some of the night lighting makes me think I'm playing the game in a fish tank or something.

Can someone tell me if you can end loans early in January and if so do you have to pay some sort of cancellation fee? Want to send Lazy Lukaku and his monster wages back to Chelsea ASAP!

DeniroBob, your posts are hilarious! Especially that first one with Pote and the cooking sauces :LMAO:

Good to have you back!

I did a CM with Dynamo Dresden in last FIFA. Great fun! This club has big support and should be in Bundesliga! One of the few from East Germany!

Anyone else finding player growth to be extremely fast?

I've transferred the Bray Wanderers into the Npower League 2 ('cause I like Bray's two kits!), and towards the end of October in my first season I've got some players already with +4 OVR!

And I'm not even playing well - I'm in the bottom half of the table.

And I even have some players with +2/+3 growth who aren't even playing at all!

I've gone from barely a 1.5 star team to a 2 star team in just a couple months - at this rate, and considering my league form, I'll be a 3 star team playing in the lowest division in England next season!

Been saying it for years and I'll say it again: we need a slider for player growth speed.

Placebo, how are your experiences with injuries going?

So far I've had one injury - a five day training injury.

I had been playing with frequency set at 65, then moved it to 80 for about a month, and now I've moved it to 85, hoping to see some injuries.

I've had the worst luck in FIFA 12 and 13 with finding a sweat spot for injuries.

Under the armpits?

Into December now with my Plymouth side, we're doing really well. My objective for the season was to fight for promotion and i'm looking like a dead cert' for achieving an automatic promotion place at the moment, so it's all good :BOP:

I've just had an epic match against Doncaster Rovers in the quarter finals of the St. Johnstone's Paint Trophy:

Even though I was playing at home, we were the clear underdogs against a team who were, until this season, living it up in the chamoionship... and that told during the first 20 minutes or so...

They were so 'in my face' it was unreal, I couldn't get a tackle in anywhere; I was being ripped to shreds time and time again. They managed to smash 2 goals passed my shell-shocked keeper in the space of about 5 minutes, the first coming after 12 and the latter following in on 17 minutes. The fact that we were playing unbelievably well up until this match proved irrelevant as my players looked like they'd wet themselves and went to sulk in the corner.

As the first half went on I managed to get my passing game going and I slowly settled into the match, then BAM! just before the stroke of half time, out of nowhere Luke Young smashes one into the top corner of the net from just outside the box > 2-1!

As the second half goes on, I get more and more comfortable on the ball; some good link up play and i'm really starting to grab this match by the scruff of the neck. On 71 minutes, after some quality movement, Alex Brosque slots home a simple finish from a partially blocked shot from another Luke Young drive from distance.

The final 20 minutes or so is just wave after wave after wave of pressure from my Plymouth side, shots spraying left, right and centre. As the 90 minutes draw to a close, extra time begins... but still, I just can't find that winning goal.

PENALTIES:

Porokara (also known as Afro Man) blasts home a stinger for the first pen.
'Some Doncaster player' hits it straight at my keeper in the middle of the goal and it's saved!
Scott Wotton steps up but is denied with a tame effort.
'Doncaster player no.2' steps up but it's saved again by Cole!
Luke Young slots home a tidy finish in the bottom left corner.
'Doncaster player no.3' hits the bar this time! Surely it's mine now!
Alex Brosque places the ball on the spot and steps back... He absolutely belts it into the top right corner as we go charging into the Semi's! :BOP:

Awwwwwwww Yeeeaaaaahhhhh!

So after my poor start to the season I've been giving it a good bash today and now I'm currently 2 points outside the last playoff spot with 3 matches left to play, Blackpool level on points but better goal difference and Forest sat in the last playoff slot 2 points ahead, next match is Leeds Utd away who're already securely in the playoffs, start the match and I batter them, 2-0 up, half time approaching I pause to go to team management to swap my wingers (one really tall one for the far side) and it freezes :( So that's enough for tonight.

Placebo, how are your experiences with injuries going?

So far I've had one injury - a five day training injury.

I had about four LCLs, 2 broken ankles and a few others so had to tone things down a bit but I agree it is hard to find a sweet spot, I guess it's going to end up a case of lots of injuries but settle for minor ones.

Hi mate, i didnt realise that - great minds obviously thinking alike :)

To be honest, i was seriously considering Sheff Utd or Coventry but in the end i decided that i loved the Dresden kit and as you say they are clearly a sleeping giant ready to be reawakened.

Regarding the pictures, Google images is my friend, i didnt even have to photoshop that one just found it when running a search! Not sure if you picked up on the 'minge' reference? wasnt sure if that was used in Canada too to describe a ladys front bottom or if it was a colloquial british thing like 'bollocks' (there was a hilarious clip of alexi lalas trying to say that word and failing)

Who are you going to choose this year?

And that's with the sliders set at 80/65, right?

I believe injuries are also very much based on your playing style. Do you pass a lot? I like to play long balls, get physical, and many of the injuries I've seen are results of heavy aerial duels. Sliders set somewhat like those.

I'm not anywhere far enough into my manager mode game with Liverpool, but I've noticed quite a bit of growth as well. So far I'm okay with it, I think it's pretty fair growth for younger players to increase rapidly as they get their start in the first team. I'll have to finish at least a season before I can say whether it's a fair growth model or too fast/slow.

But, considering players like Sterling and Suso are starting out in the upper 60s in overall ability, it may not be unfair for them to increase 10 points or so in their first full season. Frankly, I'd rather have growth feel a bit faster rather than slower. When players won't learn anything despite getting a bunch of first team action early in their careers, it seems a little stupid.

Yes, I think you're right. And I agree, I'd rather have a little faster growth than a little slower.

I should also have noted two things:

1) I've purposefully sought out players with high potentials (there are a couple websites that list this), so I sort of built my own monster;

2) Not all my players are growing equally fast - while I think the guys who've grown +3/+4 in only a couple months is too fast, some have hardly progressed at all.

Maybe, like you mentioned, some of the high potential guys are designed to progress rapidly so that they can contribute on the better teams. So when you bring them in to a lower rated squad, their rapid growth is more noticeable and unusual.

That's not necessarily a bad thing if it's one or two players, but if it's a bunch of them then it can turn your 1 star team into a 2 star team rather quickly, which is what's happened with me.

In the past I've always tried to seek out high potential growth players because it's one the best way to generate profits - and money is sorely lacking with the lesser clubs. But I guess this year you might need to be careful to balance out the desire for profits with preventing your club from becoming too good too quickly. That is if realism is your thing.

Had a strong campaign this first season and upto now (halfway through the january window) I am in 3rd and 3 points behind the leaders, Manchester city, with Chelsea in second. Still going in both the COC (in the semis!) and champions league (won my group). Played my first game in the FA cup and got a 2-2 away draw against stoke.

So far this window I have signed El Shaarawy in a straight swap for hart, Sterling for just under £1million and Fellaini in exchange for diaby plus £5million. As both attacking options there are future talent I'm also working on llorente with his transfer fee negotiated to £5.75million and currently working on his contract. :D

The lineup will look something like as follows

Szcesney

Sagna Koscielney Vermaelan Coentrao

Fellaini Wilshere

Ox. Cazorla Muniain

Podolski

Subs:
Fabianski, Gibbs, Arteta, Sterling, Tello, Giroud, Llorente

Does anyone have advice on improvements to this squad? Based on the players I've got plus a few more current arsenal players that are just reserves.

In the fifa catalogue you can buy a club takeover, for about 2000 credits.

As Scunthorpe I expected it to be a Crawley Town sort of takeover, so i'd get about £4,000,000

A few minutes and £42,000,000 later, i was a very suprised and rich manager :BOP:
With little time left in the transfer window, it was hard to find quality players to spend my money on who would drop down to the 3rd tier of english football.
Best players signed:
Michelle Vorm as an 81 GK after battling with Swansea to agree a price on him and having to fork out a ton of wages.
Shane Long ST from West Brom 75 rated but got him way lower than his market value and his agreed wage was £12,000 so fine by me

I also signed a few Barcalona defenders on loan (Montoya a 74 rated RB the pick of the bunch), Lincoln a 73 rated CAM with 5 star skills, great passing and control, Raheem Sterling on a loan to buy for £1,900,000 and another wide player Simone Verdi. Verdi was great for me in Fifa 12, full of potential and reaches a high overall. Buying him was the easy bit but agreeing wages was a nightmare. He wanted to stay put as he liked the location so i had to offer £22,000 when his wages are £4,000 so the deep pockets came in handy.

The takeover option is good if you were a premier league team like QPR or Fulham and then it would be realistic. But as according to my career mode Scunthorpe are now the richest team in the world, be careful with this feature!

Edit: I also signed Jack Robinson on loan from Liverpool, as i support them i wanted to get a few fringe players in my team. I sent loan to buy offers for Ronaldo and Messi as a bit of fun too and stories were released about the deals being rejected because Scunthorpe are such a small club and the news made a mockery of me as the manager and suggested i need to be more careful with my funds, so the news stories have really improved for Fifa 13

How do you do this? sounds awesome just unfortunately not for a low league team as realism is reduced. I've never navigated to the catalogue before?

You are getting Fernando Llorente for just over 5m and you have also bought Joe Hart and sold him on?

I thought this years transfer system was more realistic? :CONFUSE:

Just started a manager career as Tranmere. First match against Dijon and I'm 2-0 down in the 70th minute. Went on to score two goals to draw the game and both goals had me out of my seat, who says this game doesn't have "soul"? :D

Brought in Tom Carroll (Spurs) and Viktor Klonaridis (Lille) on loan for the season.

Edit: Well, it was fun while it lasted. Loaded my saved game and it crashes to desktop. Again, what a buggy mess :CURSE:

Edit: Found a fix! Turning off your internet connection lets the game load fine, something to do with trying to access the EA servers for the news feed causes it to crash. Crap fix but at least it's a workaround for now.

Hmm, I'm having trouble finding a team to settle with. Did a quick few months with PSG, then thought I'd do a proper one with United. For some reason I didn't really enjoy that so now I've started with Juve. If that doesn't work I may try a Championship team. Any suggestions for enjoying CM?

Has anyone had what i have noticed??

I am a Liverpool Player
On Loan With Charlton Ath
Playing in the championship.

I go to look how liverpool are doing and it is saying played 2 pos 14th!!

EVERY other league is up to date!!! I am on Match Day 34 for Charlton and the Cup comps are up to date also. Spurs won Capitol 1 Cup and Charlton have Qpr in the 1/4 of the FA Cup.

Why can I not see the Up to date table for My Official Club not loaned???
I'm confused or has EA messed up another part?

Every year I try to make my first MM/CMs with a top league team, but they never seem to stick.

I simply do not enjoy this mode nearly as much as when I play with a lower league club.

I'm now playing in the lowest English league and enjoying it. So I'd say try that.

What's the word on the scouting system?

I've only just recently set up scouting networks with two scouts, but they both are just one stars (that's all I can afford) and the players they've found so far are absolutely worthless.

So I scraped into the playoffs, won promotion, yada yada, start the new season in the EPL, and what the fuck? The transfer market is completely fucked up, not one single free transfer >68, in fact the only additions to the free transfer list to those that ended the season was 12 generated teenagers. I checked the transfer list for any player transfer listed over 70, and the grand total is 1, WTF?

Where are the free transfers? :( I know for the first season they assigned all players over 70 to random clubs but surely in the second season onward there should be some freebies >70 showing up?

So I have £6.5m from the board to survive relegation, negotiated another £4.2m to finish midtable so with only £11m I have to completely rebuild my squad for the EPL, going to be interesting! Currently running a league by league search, all players >70 & <80 value <£5m age <25 and then enquiring about every single one to see what bargains are available, so far I've picked up Boyata and Bruma as my CBs, Armand Traore at LB (plus Buttner on season loan with a buy of £1.5m), Nathan Redmond at RW (competing with Michail Antonio) and that's about it, key role I have to fill is at CDM, few irons in the fire but I'm down to £3m now and the players I have available to trade aren't ones that the top teams are interested in.

Someone please tell me they've seen free transfers >70 in their CM so far?

Went back onto the game and played my next match against Manchester city and was pleased to come away with a 3-1 win, however on the screen where it shows other teams results in the same competition it froze so I had to quit. I reloaded it and played the match again and the same thing happened, so the 3rd time I tried simulating it which to my surprise I won and then it wouldn't let me off the screen and froze, I simulated it a second time and the same thing happened so I had to go back to my autosave before. At this point I hadn't negotiated with Fellaini, El Shaarawy, Sterling or Llorente so had to start again with all 4 :TD:

This time round I got sterling even cheaper at £900k and had to negotiate differently with El Shaarawy as real Madrid had offered me £14m for hart which was a £7m profit which I couldn't resist. In the end El Shaarawy cost me £11m plus Gnarby. However with Fellaini and Llorente they were much harder to acquire with Everton wanting £13.5m and Bilbao wanting £14m which was affordable but not value for money in my opinion. As an alternative to Fellaini I instead decided to invest in Gundogen who was valued at £10m but I got him for £5m plus Arteta who I like as a player but with both doing similar roles I felt Gundogen has more potential. As well as gundogen the money for hart was put to use on his team mate subotic as I'm not a fan of mertesackers pace so had got rid of him early on and just needed another option which I found for £6.8m.

Into the second half of the transfer window now and Milan approached me with an offer for Muniain (a replacement for El Shaarawy maybe) which I negotiated to £25m and sold on making a £10m profit. This left me with about £45m and my first target was going to be somebody in place of Llorente. I searched the market and ended up putting a bid of £30m plus Chamakh in for Falcao partly because of how he shredded Chelsea and I'm competing with them for the league title and had a fixture coming up against them in the COC. Anyway the initial bid was rejected saying they wanted £35m alone which wasn't suitable for me so I offered £15m and Walcott which again was rejected and they asked for £31.5m and Walcott so I went back with £22.5m and Walcott which they accepted :))

This left me with 3 days of January left and £22.5m to play with and having masses of attacking players now for both present and future needs and a mix of quality at the back I thought it was best to bolster the options throughout my midfield. Although I knew it was an unrealistic transfer I looked into signing Yaya Toure as a replacement for diaby who out of my choice had been forced to leave as he was homesick. I felt Fellaini provided similar box to box driving runs and that was why he was going to be included in the squad alongside Wilshere but Yaya Toure does the same just better. In the end I got him for £18.5m 2 hours away from the end of deadline day and to my disappointment as I was about to put him in my squad he had a broken ankle so I wish the game would tell me about this kind of thing first.

Anyway with my improved squad I set to work with the next game being against Chelsea so I fielded the team below;
Szczęsny

Coentrao - Koscielney - Vermaelen - Gibbs

Cazorla - Wilshere

Chamberlain - El Shaarawy - Podolski
Falcao

The first half of the game was pretty tame with only 1 goal in it at half time thanks to a bit off finesse from chamberlain. At 60 minutes Chamberlain had had a long enough run around and brought Tello on in his place which immediately took effect as I hit them on the counter attack using the fresh legs to assist a blast into the top left of the goal from Falcao. Immediately Torres pulled 1 back from 18 yards into the side of the net. Chelsea were now pushing to get level in the 75th minute leaving Falcao one on one at a corner which El Shaarawy broke from drawing the last man on to him so he could play a chipped through ball and give Falcao and Cech a half to themselves but Falcao came out on top with another enthatic finish into the top left of the goal leaving the goalie no chance. This was El Shaarawy last involvement in the match though as he was replaced by gundogen and cazorla pushed up to CAM. As full time approached Falcao managed to force Cech into a save to deny him his hat trick but unfortunately lampard scored in the 90th minute but there wasn't long enough fo Chelsea to get another so it turned out to be nothing but a consolation. Full time 3-2 to the gooners!
