Fifa 13: Career Mode Discussions

Finding it unbelievably hard to play as a striker in my CM. The CPU opposition stick to you like mud and it's so difficult to even get into any kind of space. Also noticed that I'm not getting extra points for playing other players in on goal, which I was when I was a midfielder.

Not sure the rating system works too well still, to be honest. Better than other years but it's just not right.

i see you are a charlton fan, I actually have been loaned to them by liverpool on CM. Ive shot them from 24th(they lost the 1st 5 matches before i joined) they are now sitting in 3rd place on jan 1st 2013(took a break from CM to play a bit on FUT lol)
 
I started my first CM as Arsenal and have brought in Muniain(15m) Tello(2.7m) Coentrao(12m) and Hart(7m). I'm looking into buying a striker at a reasonable price and both Llorente(83) and Huntlaar(85) have 1 year remaining on their contracts so i can get them at reduced rates, does anyone have any advice on which to invest in from how they fit into the Arsenal squad? Also any young centre midfielders that have a good potential?

When you first begin to setup a CM. In the first settings screen there is a list of settings for skill level, half length etc. Further down on the list is an option for Rosters/Squads. There are three settings for Roster/Squads: Default, Online and Custom. The default value is set to Default Rosters. You must change the setting or the preferred roster will not be used.

Also in that settings screen is the option to have the Champions League and Europa League during the first season of the CM. And when you choose that option you can then setup and modify the teams used in the mode. :) When I begin my CM I plan on adding some of the "Rest of the World" teams to some of the secondary leagues so that I can place them into the appropriate Champions League Groups.

Started my second season after promotion to Ligue 1 with RC Lens. The board gives me £1.4M with the season objective of gaining promotion. Erm... What?! Hope this doesn't turn out to be a game breaking bug, if I finish the season without getting religated it will be pretty decent so they better not fire me for something I can't achieve!

Currently sitting tenth after 5 games or so, managed to get Lukaku on loan for the season although he seems to be surprisingly lazy with his movement! Having to focus on my youth squad as money is ultra tight. Wissam Ben Yedder who has developed to 75 playing in the No. 10 position is undoubtedly the star of my team, I hope I can keep hold of him in January!

You might want to look into picking up a few free agents and after a season if they haven't developed to your first teams level or at least earnt themselves a place on the bench sell them to raise your budget and invest in some worthwhile talent.

Yeah it is really hard to get free.

I'm going to recall Essien from his loan at Real Madrid and offload Terry, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cole, Moses etc. etc. to build up money to buy the five players I want to buy. I'll play on World Class with default sliders and give it a go too. I'm looking forward to his CM! If anyone has anything to tell me regarding my Starting IX and players or whatnot feel free!
 
Promoted to the premiership via the playoffs with Forest.
Love the ESPN presentation in the premiership not available in the championship makes it feel more important like real life.
Sold my top goal scorer agbonlahor for 7mil making 5 mil profit.
Using placebos sliders turned it back to legendary from world class.
Beat Chelsea at Stamford bridge 1-0 first game hope to tune sliders to make it more challenging as I don't use manual settings

Is anyone else finding that the camera changes for certain matches in career mode? We play on co-op camera, but when we played Aldershot at their home ground the camera changed to some zoomed in camera at a flatter angle. It's really off putting. You can alter the camera in the menu, but when you return to the game the camera flicks back to the zoomed in cam again.

It goes back to the normal co-op cam for your next CM match though. Are they trying to simulate that you are playing in a ground with lower stands, so the camera has to be at a flatter angle? If so its a bit odd and it certainly never did that before.

Yep it's generally the stadia with the pitch close to the supporters won't let you zoom out as far, annoying as I like maximum zoom.

I'm struggling in my first season as Wednesday manager, all manual/legendary my adjusted Championship sliders, January window closed with me at 16th I think it is, I needed a wide left footer but had zero money and begged the board for more, negotiated £500k more as long as I'm challenging for promotion, unfortunately the money didn't leave me enough time to buy anyone permanently so I brought in 3 loans, Raheem Sterling, Paul Pogba and Alexander Kačaniklić from Fulham.
 
On Career mode how do you do the following:

1. Filter transfer targets by how long they've left on a contract?
2. Sign players in January on Bosman's?

I've done a season and still can't find out. It's only when I go to put an offer in can I see how long is left on a players contract and make a lower bid. Not seen anyone I can sign pre-contract.
 
I last night accepted the first national team job that came my way - Australia.

I was reluctant at first as I presumed I'd have to quit Liverpool but then Tyler and Smith were talking about the possibilities of my dual role during commentary (quality touch btw) so I went for it.

I'm amazed how much different the international games feel (and easier!) - I gave the US a 4-0 thrashing - the most goals I've scored in a single game so far.

I'm now just 3 weeks away from the transfer window opening and it can't come soon enough for me to replenish my feeble attacking options of Borini, Borini and erm, Borini.

I've got about 10 targets lined up, ranging from top players to the likes of Sessegnon down to virtual unknowns who met my criteria so I just can't wait to sign someone.

(I even played 'til 1am this morning to get there quicker).

So far the league positions are looking quite realistic with Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal all vying for the top 4 with me, Spurs and Newcastle. I'm through to the qtrs of the COC and have two wins, a draw and a defeat in the Europa.

Loving it, just wish I would find it easier to play like I've played on Pro Evo for years rather than instinctively going all "FIFA" on it.

Some of the nearly moments are superb. I even find myself doing replays of through balls that nearly sliced open the defence.

Nope, I go for realism most of the time so my manager is called "Brendan Rodgers" and he's down as Northern Irish.

Maybe it's based on your favourite holiday destinations? ;-p

But honestly, really enjoying the dual role although I haven't looked yet to see if you can affect the squad (i.e pick new players) but I hope so.

Yeah looks like that's not in there, real shame, the good news is clubs will often let players go very cheaply when their contract has only 6 months left to run, I enquired about someone valued £950 and the club only wanted £350 for him, shame I was skint!

Thanks Placebo. That's a really stupid oversight. Surely anyone doing any form of career mode QA that knows football would have noticed this??
 
Quick Update on my CM.
I am still in 1st season as player on loan to charlton.
So far since i joined Sheffield Weds 3-0 Charlton Ath has been the ONLY loss that I have played the match, Had to sim the Leicester City v Charlton match and lost 4-1(oddly the both were away matches.)

Any way I am through to the 4th rd of the FA Cup after beating Nottm Forest 6-0 at home(I have an away tie at Burnley). I have just got a measure of revenge on Sheffield Weds by beating them 4-0 at home(my VP scored all 4!!!) My VP got a 9.8 rating and man of the match for it.

My VP is Top Season Scorer with 19 Goals(Mackail-Smith of Brighton 2nd with 14) Top Season Assists with 8.
Charlton are sitting 3rd place with 58 pts(1 pt behind blackpool and 8 behind wolves - I have an extra game on them as they played 30 i played 29)
 
Another Update
I beat Burnley 4-1 to progress in the FA CUP
Then I received the Trophy National Pride. My performance in the Championship has earned me a spot on the England Team for World Cup Qualifiers Against Czech Rep and Finland.

I have an Away Championship match next against Derby County then Charlton Ath go on a International Break with only my player leaving lol then back to face Blackburn the week after the WCQ

I was not included in the squad to face Czech rep(eng won 4-0) but i was CF for the game v Finland! Won 4-0 and scored on my debut

I really wish you could search for players based on their squad status! Players who are down as 'Squad Rotation' for their team are much easier to get on loan, compared to 'Important / Crucial 1st Team Player'.

Suppose it just requires a bit of searching!

Can anyone recommend some good players that are not listed for loan, but can be acquired on a loan deal?

"To be honest" he went on "This sort of stunt just shows the facile nature of the press in Saxony. Everyone knows the Chairman Andreas Ritter and I, no longer see eye to eye, so the very suggestion is just idiotic".

Well good is all relative, good for a Championship team or lower or higher? I was surprised to get Leandro and Cicinho? from Brazilian teams on loan, pretty sure they weren't loan listed, Feyenoord CM and CB as well (I named them a few posts back), at the end of the day just try loads of players, some will say yes, some no :)
