Fifa 13: Career Mode Discussions

I'm not sure if it's only growth, or if form is playing a factor. Is does seem like players with higher form are gaining more points than others, even when playing time is relatively equal. Older players (Gerrard) are gaining points (and then losing them) and it seems like gains are made when on form, and the losses happen when form returns to normal. I'll try to pay more attention, as I think it's different from last year.

Also, I still haven't figured out the purpose of the "squad ranking" screen. I guess it's some sort of combination of overall score and form/morale?

Finally, mfmaxpower, you are certainly free to play whatever way you like, but I recommend for everyone to avoid going to websites that reveal a player's potential growth. For me, it makes career mode far less interesting when you "know" which players are going to turn out the best. Takes all the risk out of buying players, and all the player development strategy out of picking which youth players to play. Plus, once you know potentials, every CM becomes the same because you keep going after the same guaranteed talent. My advice is to keep the "fog of war" active, makes the game a little more interesting.

Yeah, I kinda agree, and I doubt I'll do again what I did this time - using sites to seek out high potential growth players.

Still, I really wanted to be able to afford a decent scout and selling a player was the only way that was going to happen with my current team - who started out with pennies in the bank - so for that purpose, it was a success.

Yeah, it's nice now that Morale and Form are in the game, yet it's designed so poorly - I hate that you can't tell these things from Team Management setup before each match.

Yeah I meant to mention that as well, really stupid you can't see form/morale in the team management screen, how the hell we supposed to pick a lineup based on form? POS design.

Just had this, bullshit! Lost 2-1 to Swansea after a good start to the season with 2 wins in 2 games and to add insult to injury; Saul is out for 4 months through injury!

Yeah one of my players was injured the first time it auto-simmed but no way in hell was I going to accept that so loaded again.

In March of my first CM year Peru offered me the job of national coach and I accepted. Veteran striker Pizarro had an overall rating of 83. In October his rating had dropped to 73! I had to doublecheck to see if it was the same player. :)

On a different note, I had really hoped they revised the search mode this year. I hate for instance that you can't search for specific specialties anymore, such as Playmaker or Distance Shooter. In Fifa 11 it was still possible. :( You should also be able to filter on secondary position(s) and their remaining contract years, like somebody else mentioned earlier. And not to mention if they're right or left footed, and how many stars they have for weak foot and skills. Thouse should all be made search criteria. It would make my managerial life so much easier! :))

Oh, and in game it's really annoying how long it takes before the substitutions come on the field! The camera zooms in on some random player (or maybe not so random) and it seems to last forever.

adboards that do not look like the ones from the atari aga would also be welcomed. amusing how the off the field visuals are blur and ugly.

menus also take forfrikingever.

The general tone of this thread seems to be becoming more angry and less complimentary with each day.

I still think there's a lot of really good stuff. It's great that CM has been worked on so much this year (having been ignored the previous year I think?) - the transfer system is a pleasure for example.

But then people are experiencing so many bugs (the worst I've had is the continual issue of unnecessary fixture pile up) - is this going to be another year of so near yet so far?

It could be placebo (the effect, not the forum member ;-p) but I'm starting to feel the games are merging into each other with little to differentiate one from another.

Perhaps I need to move up from Professional to appreciate it more?

I agree, it's awesome, just laughably riddle with bugs, they need to be fixed ASAP and then we can fully enjoy the game, not grit our teeth and enjoy it despite the issues.

What's up with the fixture scheduling in this? I just had four games in eight days as Dortmund.

I noticed that on mine, I've got my last 8 Championship matches with Charlton inside April as well as a fa cup semi final v chelsea so that works out as 2 and a quarter matches per week wtf??

I have been lucky with injury tho, my pro has played 42 matches and has only missed 1 match thru a rest. I was 1 on 1 with the goalie few games back right b4 the fa 1/4 final and he pulled up short, i thought he would then be out but he's fine lol :CONFUSE:

Update on my first player CM:
Not as quick to finish my first season as most on this forum but I am playing through this and few others inc Res 6.

Anyway

Last played Championship Match resulted in Charlton Ath 4-0 Peterborough Utd

News reported that i have clinched promotion as Charlton are sitting in 1st with 93 Points Wolves with 90
Playoff positions
Bolton 77
Leeds Utd 75
Blackpool 73
Middlesbrough 70

4 games left to play in the championship i believe.
Charlton have an Away fixture next in the FA Cup Semi Final against Chelsea(wish us luck)

Championship Fixtures Left to Play:
Watford(H)
Barnsley(H)
Huddersfield(A)
Brighton(H)
I seem to get better results at home for some reason.
It will be interesting to see if Charlton stay up in the prem after i leave and i will try and get LFC to keep me and not loan if they dont then maybe to another low league as it seems more challenging keeping the team together

The FA Cup Semi Final Was Very Hard I squeezed a victory out through my pro's 71st min volley
Man City beat Swansea 4-1 in the other semi final so my last Charlton match will be Manchester City v Charlton FA Cup Final

I've just reached January in my first season and within the first few days of the window i've already had offers for some of my star performers so far. Watford came in for Brosque who's been banging them in like nobody's business, Sheffield United have made a bid for my keeper Jake Cole, who's topping the charts with 13 clean sheets so far; and i've had a couple of bids for Jake Lowry, who's up at the top of the table for assists. It's nice to see that clubs are now actually coming in for my 'in-form' players who aren't necessarily my highest rated, but have just been generally playing well so far. I can't remember if this was in Fifa 12, but i'm glad to see it's finally happening at least.

I'm bracing myself for imminent bids for Young and Hourihane now...

Heading into the FA Cup Final now against Manchester City.
Finished Top of the Championship with 103 pts
Crowned champs with 2 Matches to go
My Pro is now Rated 76
He is now Worth £11,000,000
He has won the Golden Boot with 30 Goals
Also Finished with Top Assists with 17
Currently Top Scorer in FA Cup with 7 but Aguero is right behind with 6

Damn, was going to have a night off FIFA tonight but reading all of these excellent updates (and remembering I've yet to try out latest signing Ben Arfa) means it's going to be another late night for me tonight.

WOW What A FINAL!!!!!

Charlton Athletic the Underdogs versus Manchester City the Champions Elect.

Started off with Charlton having the most attempts on goal but it was back and forth like a ping pong match.
All was equal until the 45' stroke of half time Sergio Aguero smashed it into the top right corner 1-0 to Man City at half time.
I go into the 2nd half bricking it but as with the 1st everything was equal again with City just ahead by 1.
The manager felt something was needed in the 52nd min when he swapped Haynes for Blackstock. He made an immediate impact raining hits on goal, then another substitution at the 66th minute when Kerkar was swapped for Stephens.
Stephens within 2 minutes of coming on got free and scored the equaliser!!!
ONE-ONE!!!!!
Right Attack Attack Attack.
I had nothing to lose then Blackstock pulled away in the 78th minute to put Charlton ahead 2-1 yes Charlton AHEAD in the FA Cup Final against Manchester City!!!!!
I held on and on, City made their one and only change taking off Milner and Bringing on Nasri. I held on still until the whistle. I couldn't believe it I thought I'd get thrashed. Granted I had beaten Newcastle & QPR 3-0 each and struggled through to beat Chelsea 1-0 but I'd have been happy Runner up. It capped off an amazing season for both my pro and Charlton who I joined 5 games in, bottom of the heap having lost all 5 games and dumped out of the Capital one cup in the 1st match.
Now Charlton are NPower Championship Champions and FA Cup Winners. I can't wait for my 2nd season(actually wish I could stay at Charlton lol Don't know if anyone else felt that the effort put in throughout just to go back to a better team)

Agreed on this being an awesome feature, just brought me to realise why I was getting so many offers coming in for muniain with 14 assists in January! Probably why I got big money for him and had offers from four different clubs for the ox as he was the top scorer on 16 but non of a high enough magnitude. However it works as a disadvantage when selling out of form players with only reduced offers coming in but again, when buying it favours yourself.

Yeah that's true, it does add an element of 'risk' to it all, which I quite like to be honest: Sell when their on-form and you'll get a nice tasty stack of cash, or hold onto them because you feel you need them; but then risk them going out-of-form and being worth jack sh*t :P

Srarted my player career at FC Groningen.Got loaned out to Northampton immediately, now in the new season got a major transfer to Bilbao.

€6.5 million
€10.000/week
72 overall striker

I think I will make Placebo proud and start a CM with Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow - I have 3 days of work, so looking forward to get them promoted to the Premier League :)

Nice! One tip, give Ryan McCabe as much game time as possible, he turns into a fantastic CM in no time at all, excellent passer from midfield :)

Raheem Sterling Sold to Sevilla??? WTF??
Not liking this 2nd season already lol
Sterling sold for £2,000,000
Now the 3 friendlies are complete
PSG Complete Transfer for Luis Suarez for £28,000,000
AND Yesil to Munich for £1,7000,000

Think i'll rather go on loan lol
GRRRRRRRRRRR

Playing Manager Career.

The whole job thing is a bit weird, I started out in the Airtricity league (Ireland) With my home town club Derry City, I finished joint second, With one game to go i got offered the Ireland National job.....:NONO: Said to myself this is a bit unrealistic, Turned it down, Then got offered a job with Peterborough United in the Championship.....From First season in Airtricity league to the Championship. I took it, I'm now top of the Championship with 5 game's to go looking good to win it, And now i don't get offered on National job or any other job for that matter, So i applied for 2 jobs back in the Airtricity League, But both clubs turned me down....So that's messed up in my opinion, or it's a bug in the game....:CALM:

Cool :-) Thanks for the tip - Think I wanna try and bring in Nicklas Helenius from Aalborg BK.

Plays as a striker, really good finishing and got great speed and technique, despite of his height (195 cm/6 ft 5in).
He is only 21 and got great potential.

Gonna bring in Lucas Andersen from Ajax on loan.
17 years old, got great technique, speed, flair and creativity. He is gonna turn into a beast :)

Ajax bought him in for 1.5mio€ in the last day of the transfer window from Aalborg BK.

AAAAH.. Can't wait! :CONFUSE:

Sweet, decent growth, who've you got alongside you at Bilbao as I know Llorente was on last year of contract, in as a replacement?

Well first actual season has started with Liverpool travelling to the club liverpool loaned my pro to Charlton Athletic.

Really didn't wanna face them straight away but I was surprised to have not been told I'm going on loan yet(i had 6 offers at this point last season and left out of the squad totally)
This time i started the match(I guess now they have sold suarez and west ham still have carroll they must need me lol)

The match ended up a white wash with Liverpool going out 5-0 winners
Downing starting and ending the scoring with a skrtel bullet header, my cheeky chip and a henderson tap in slotted between.

Although next up is Manchester Utd at Anfield

I have to say, 4-3-3 is working really well for me. In past Fifa games it was the formation of nightmares, where midfielders wandered off and the defence was always exposed and leaking goals. Now though, it's the best way to set up my Scunthorpe team and Shane Long loves having more space as a lone striker, which i think is having a good effect on everybody else. Even Diop, the worst striker i've signed in any Fifa game ever, gets on the scoresheet when he has to play.

As for all the bugs, i can't say i've had any really, although cut scenes like for subs do seem to take longer with more info being loaded.

Yep I know him, he was linked with us in real life :)

Our old friend the "goalkeeper undefined 10" bug reared its ugly head tonight, fortunately I knew why, I edited a formation and for some reason it let me save it with two players assigned to CF roles, I had to fix that formation in main menu team management then load an old save and fortunately the bug was gone away, for now :)

Playing well in my second season with Arsenal (first season not out on loan)and in the January transfer window they want to sell me to every club that enquires :(( I've had PSG, Real Madrid and Valencia come in for me.....but I have rejected them all! I am going to show Arsenal they need me!

Why dont they want me?!

Stand your ground mate and show them :))

On another note it seems a bit strange how Arsenal don't consider you good enough but 3 other quality teams do :CONFUSE:

What did they tell you before transfer listing you?
